Yeah I do it, I've got a bunch of predictions but I don't have them with me atm so I'll post them up later. Do you have any predictions aswell?

  • Registered Users Posts: 271 ✭✭Gi joe!

Yeh I'm doin classics aswell, pretty difficult to predict that exam seems very random, just make sure at the least you have covered
-all the battles covered for Alexander(nearly guaranted question)
-the roman theme, pietas and fate comes up often with the Aeneid
-the 3 Theban plays are quite short so you could get them covered very well in the next few days
-archictecture stuff like temples and baths didn't come up last year, I'm not doing it though cause I despise that crap
-Alexander character question-good bad qualities etc(sorry vague I know)

Pretty basic I know, but its a starting point. Good luck!

some good advice there guys thanks
The only predictions i have really gotten are:
Alexander's greek campaign's (useful for a qualities questions too )
    Sieges (Tyre,Halicarnassus)
    Mutinies(Hydrapses,Opus)

    Architecture
    Ostia
    Palmyra
    Pantheon
    Both arches
    Bathing process
    Those lovely bowled fruit paintings

    sin sin

    Anyone do latin literature ?

Hard to narrow down the second question on Alexander, but you should be able to just do real good essays on Granicus and Guagamela to try nail half marks.

Theban plays are piss as always. I beleive 1992 was the last time the Chorus in Medea came up. Jason and Medea were both on last year, so I think we could be cool

Prometheus I hear might be a particular scene, possibly IO.

The parthenon and one archaic free standing Kore are the predictions in Greek Art and Arch if you do it.

Greek Poetry is anyones guess, I won't talk about that ********.

I don't get how you're supposed to write huge essays on some of these Alexander Questions... like Persepolis.. You could say he was coaxed by Thais etc. etc. and that he regretted it, but how do you flesh it out for more than a page?
also is policy of fusion the mass marriages?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 203 ✭✭ImJohn

Yeah thats the main part of it. If none of these essays come up I'm seriously ****ed!!! I'm going to have to learn like 20 essays in 3 days for classics. Remember too, only spend 22 mins on each essay no matter where you are in the essay, when it hits the 20 min mark start making out your conclusion.

I think his policy of fusion is pretty much the forms of Orientalism Alexander adopted -marraiges,
    -prostration
    -worshipping their gods
    -training of pages,
    -the culture(Persian dress and drinking)
-maybe the appointing of Persian soldiers into his army like Coenus:confused:

    and why he took them
-Persians believed that he was a god
    -unite macedonians and persians-marraiges etc
-make sure the Persian states don't revolt

ah k. that's an approachable Question.

I don't have a clue what the magnificent myth is, it's my teachers predictions, I have an essay on it somewhere, I'll post it up during the weekend if I have some spare time. Yup your right about Dionysis, how he made it difficult for Plato in Syrause, discuss... you should talk about how Plato was sent to help him but it was only to enhance his reputation and he still remained a tyrant. You could include the letter too. I could post up an sample essay on that too over the weekend.

Also another question that might come up: Philosophers either useless or dangerous.

    Hey!

I think I'm doing fine in the Leaving Certificate so far, I just need to do well in classics(easier said than done!).

Barely anyone does classics and it would be nice if someone else had some predictions to post them here, because our teacher refused to; and I really really need them, such a vast course to study..

    Anyway, thanks a lot!

Hope to hear some nice predictions soon.:pac:

i do it aswell..really want to get an a in it but i don't see that happening,
it depends on how it goes on the day i suppose..
the only predictions i can remember are

    alexanders greek campaigns
    gedrosian desert
    tyre
    thebes

But i have five days now to study so i'm going to go over the entire course..Its the only way i can go in feeling confident enough that i'll do well..

THE STRESS!! the course is SO MASSIVE.
and the weird layout of essays means i never know if i've done well or not..

plus i am only studying medea and oedipus so i have no choice really in that section..noooo
i can feel the stress already!

You have more than enough time to cover Prometheus Bound in the play section, its by far the shortest and most straightforward one out of them all(which is why its my favourite):D

I'll post up the essay tomorrow.

I'm so nervous for classics, I'm just studying the predictions. If anyone who did classics last year could tell us if the predictions made last year were correct than I'd feel a lot more comfortable.

Yeah I really need to do well in Classics so I might just concentrate on the predictions. What else can I do?Can anyone who did it last year enlighten us as to how last years predictions faired for the 2008 paper?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 168 ✭✭lorna100

Not sure about last year but my sister did it two years ago and I think only 2 of the predictions came up. She still got a b1 though, so I wouldnt worry too much.
Need an a1 but am pretty much just going on predictions, think it will be ok. Dont have time to cover the whole course!

    Sent. :)

How does Homer build his case against the suitors and makes us feel that they deserve their terrible punishment.

Characteristic quality is one of a strong sense of duty:

    1. Discuss.
    2. Does this make Aeneas an less interesting hero?

Loyalty is key to the Odyssey and is rewarded throughout and the opposite brings harsh punishment.

    Discuss.

    Aeneas behaviour toward Dido
How is Didos tragedy is heightened in the story.
