Guys - just putting this up to see your views on it are - I'm not complaining.

I owned a .223 which I recently traded for a .270 via a dealer. I left new gun details, surrender cert and copy of FAC with local serg. they got lost them and did not make it to Dublin HQ. We then started loosing lambs to a dog (5 so far) so I need my gun fast, I called into station again to find out the Serg. broke his finger and was off work for 6 weeks ! ( I know I was shocked too..nothing wrong with a bit of tape for a week or 2 -public sector is crazy stuff) Anyway I was a bit pissed caus nobody really could help and was not interested in controlling the wild dog - So I rang Garda HQ myself, asked to speak to the firearms section, gave my liscence number and new gun details and dealer pulse nr and the lady changed details over the phone. I asked would she scan the new licence or fax it but she said can only do that if Station requests it - but she said Any guard in Station has authourity to just sign & stamp amendments on my orignal licence and away I go - which is what I did... Collect the new Rifle next week.
I felt there would be some issue with going from .223 to .270 but not the case.

Under the stricter side of the law you need to re-apply for each new calibre you are seeking, however as was the case with myself the Garda on duty at the time (not necessarily the FO) can stamp the licence and amend it to the new calibre without re-application if there is a valid reason. Yours was pest/animal control. In my case the local Gardai know me and that i do Target shooting so a quick call from him to the local FO to recheck and he stamped my licence there and then. Time from i got the letter from the dealer to when i collected my new rifle was approx 4 hours.

Others i know were not so lucky. They were made re-apply and took one lad 5 months of back and forth to get his new licence. Missed the entire deer season. Depends on your Local super and a good word from your FO.

Best of luck with your new .270 emcor.

Yes I had a crap experiance with my shotgun sale last Auguet which meant that i did not have my new shotgun until November - with a lot of phone calls in between.

Im sure everyone on here has crap stroies about guards who dont know or care about gun licencing; point I make is that a call directly to HQ by me to the lady there (who i'm not sure was a guard at all) got the wheapon transferred; without explaining about lost lambs - or 'a word' whether it be good, bad or indifferent' from any guard.
When I expained to the local guy that Pulse now had the new rifle details registerd he stamped straight away.
Obvisouly this is only suitable for a change of wheapon on exisiting cert but it seems better that having for a cop to decide when it it time to process a lisence and hoping that he has a nice opinion of you and is not an anti hunting/shooting person.

PS having toruble seeing this dog, another gone today. Up there at all times and nothing to be seen. My father had this same thing happen 9 years agon and met the ****er coming through a gate with one in his mouth @ 3 in the afternoon - any hints on stalking/trapping a dog

When I changed from my .22 to .22 magnum I had to wait 5 weeks for licence to be ammended

I'm thinking of buying a second gun at some point in the future (.223) but am slightly put off by how long issuing of a second licence would take!!
