Olympic gym in Ballyban Ind Est would, I think, be closest.

If you are interested in trying something different, a little less boring than pounding on a treadmill try Point Blank Gym, we are located in the Racecourse Business Park in Parkmore
    http://www.pointblankgym.com/Beginners.aspx
the location might work for you as well.

guys, thanks for the suggestions. unfortunately mark the times of the classes wont suit with work. Olympic looks like the best option, hopefully they can give me a decent monthly membership rate.

    city gym
Olympic physique(if its still open in glenrock bus park)
days inn gym on dublin road
    kingfisher Renmore
    Kingfisher NUIG
    Nrg Bohermore
    Radisson Lough Atalia
    Leisureland Salthill
    Peak Physique (tesco shopping centre)

Stretched to think of any more in the city itself
    best of luck

Before I chose to become an alcoholic I really enjoyed going to Galway City Gym on the tuam rd.

I'd thoroughly recommend it in all seriousness

This is a good gym thread: Gym Membership Prices in Galway
Mind the prices may have changed

Im a member of the Radisson Gym, its pricey but its a smaller quiter gym and the trainers are so nice and super helpful. Would be cheaper perhaps to join with a friend of you could? This also helps with the motivation aspect too!

Cheers for the replies guys, I didn't know there were that many gyms around, I'll defo have a call to them all (I'll be avoiding a hard sell though !).

Gotta say the Raddison sounds like a good option , pricey yes by the sounds of things but I'm sure there would be advantages and it it would be money well spent !!.

    Thanks again folks,

    D.

This was in the iBuy Voucher book about a month ago, not in the current edition (or website) though but definitely worth a shot. ;)

A few years ago I came to the conclusion that gym memberships are a bit of a waste. If you have the space I think you should really just spend the €300 or whatever on a decent bench, barbell and dumbbell combination. Throw in some other stuff like a pull up bar and a swiss ball and you've got the makings of a decent setup with no queuing for equipment and no travel time.

I'll be back in Galway fulltime soon and want to get straight into a gym again, but don't want to commit to a 12 month contract as I could be off on travels soon after the summer.

Does anyone know a gym that does monthly membership? Somewhere with a pool would be an added bonus, almost essential tbh

    Someone mentioned Leisureland before??

-Edit- Checked out Leisureland website, they say they offer a 3 month membership which would be perfect. Going to ring them tomorrow asking for prices. Anyone got any feedback from the gym? Pool suits me fine, I want a no frills 25m pool

Doesnt Kingfisher do one monthers? Dont know myself but thats what I've heard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,471 ✭✭✭majiktripp

G/f got a monthly membership in Days Hotel Gym, gave a sob story about possibly leaving country in six months and not wanting to be tied down with a contact. €41 per month now by direct debt with no sign up fee's and cancel anytime. Worked a treat!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,209 ✭✭✭✭JohnCleary

That's great news. TBH Leisureland would suit me perfect as it's walking distance (kinda contradictive driving to the gym). If Leisureland can offer the 3 month for less than 45 (absolute max) a month then i'd just sign up and pre pay for the 3 months. I reckon i'll be getting decent value for that as ill be going 3 days a week

Yo, I'll be moving to Galway city in a few weeks and just want to know which gyms there are in the city. Also, do any of them have a 'pay-as-you-go' fee?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    hi Kev
theres been a good few posts on that topic here since january, go back down a few of the galway pages and you will come across them, maybe someone else knows how to link the old thread.

Ah, okay. I'll take a look. i'll actually be only staying for 8 weeks (summer job at the Marine Institute).

Leisureland and Kingfisher gyms look promising.

Kingfisher is an excellent gym.. the public hours aren't great though. Think it's 8euro a session, but very central and their pool is pretty good too.

Kingfisher got back to me and said that they don't do monthly fees...? Maybe you have to be a student of GMIT to pay the €8 fee?

Leisureland got back to me too though and it's €69 for a monthly fee.

    Kevin

I'm talking about the Kingfisher at NUIG. They have public opening hours. I became a member a few months ago, and I pay my fees on a monthly basis which is quite handy.. free adult exercise classes, free access to swimming pool and sauna etc.. well worth the look!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,980 ✭✭✭Kevster

Oh right, I though that the only Kingfisher gym was that one in NUIG. I can see that there's a different one in Galway though - I must have emailed that [different] one.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Days hotel (Now the clariton hotel)
600+130(sign on fee) for the year
They also have 3/6/9 month membership
Im not sure how the sign on fee works but I dont think it applies to 3/6 month
They also do student discount thats about 50% off.

I quite like the gym itself. Great staff and its never packed, great selection of machines, all you need really.

A couple friends started in the Galway Harbour Hotel gym, they say it's always empty so easy access to all equipment.

Thanks folks, do these places all have TVs etc? I know that if I could watch the soaps while there it would motivate me more. :)

Is that the old Galway Ryan hotel?
Does that price include the swimming pool?

It is indeed and yes price includes use of the pool.

Days/clariton does they have 2 big wide screens in front of the cross trainers and they leave the remotes available so you can change channel, though sometimes the music is on and might put you off watching. Each of the treadmills also has a tv but you would need to bring your own headphones
