I have done so, and with quite a few boardsies. They don't know that I'm on boards, though.

Because Im 18 and everyone on Boards is older.

Also I don't have any friends on Boards so if I went for a drink with them it'd be creepy.

Also also I don't think you can properly get to know someone online so agreeing to drinks is weird.

Not of boards but strangly enough I am meeting somebody from another forum for the first time , for a pint on saturday night .

But that's the whole point of meeting somebody ,so you get to know them a little bit better, or not at all but you wont know that till ya meet them .

Not like you need an excuse anyway and besides, haven't you heard of blind dates ?

I'm sure, at 18 everything is sad... But you don't have to meet anyone here for a blind date anyway. I've gotten to know some pretty sound people on here. I talk to quite a few people here on msn too, and know enough about each others real lives that I'd consider them friends. Tbh, there are some boardsies that spend a fair bit of time on boards, so sitting there having a waffle and a drink on the same wave-length as you is pretty cool.

Btw, there are people on this site your own age. But age doesn't really matter here anyway.

Does standing on top of the bar in a tight tee-shirt screaming "I'm Dr.Bollocko! And I'm drinking Jameson!" in an attempt to get free drink from strangers count?

    Yep.

Yea funny enough I would have been at the opposite end of that, before I came on here. I would have thought it sad too and I'm 41. I was a disturbingly uniformed newbie to all this lark. The social aspect of computers. The furthest I had traveled was MSN with mates of mine overseas and an ex of mine. That was it. Actually it was her who turned me on to MSN in the first place as she went home to another country. TBH without her I doubt I'd be here. Funny how things go.

Now I think whatever way you socialise is grand. The phone is only a 100 odd years old and no one would think it strange talking on the phone(though personally I hate it). Same with this lark and as more and more non "computer nerds*" join in, the more it will become less strange. Already has. I'm only a mod here a year odd and I've seen a big change in the demographic hereabouts and a big leap in little social groups forming in the real world.

*not a pejorative term on my part at all, just a stereotype.

Hush you I don't need the nocturnals sniffing round you :)

I must of, at this point, met hundreds of boardsies. As well as just beers and meeting people I knew before/ met here I have been to several pretty busy charity events involved with boards.

I can also confirm, despite common beliefs, there are wimminz on the innernetz!

No, everything is not sad when you're 18. Please don't patronise me. I, personally, use boards, and specifically AH, to have a laugh and make a few jokes. I don't forge relationships on here. I feel that online there is a certain anonymiity that would keep me from trusting/ bonding with someone.

I know there are people my age here, and they all seem nice, but I don't want to hang out with them and discuss the leaving cert.

Lmao. I wasn't being patronising. Yet.

Well I've no problem with that. Where the problem started for me was, calling it 'creepy'. Theres nothing creepy about it.
I know there are people my age here, and they all seem nice, but I don't want to hang out with them and discuss the leaving cert.
    Again, thats fair enough.

Boards is so big there's beers nearly every month at this point. Or more than one a month.

There's a Nocturnal forum one on the 5th, AFAIR, for example!
