I just put the spent ones into my bandolier and just throw em in the bin when i get home, although I know lads who couldn't give a sh1t and just leave em in the fields.

    stock pile rifle cases:cool:

    bin the rest

was at a clay shoot a while back.. and there was a few words to shooters after to pick up .. some were not inpressed with been asked. but quite happy to trow them there.

Bring some .22lr brass home for dry-fire training, the rest goes in the bin at the range. When hunting, bring it home for dry-fire training.

Centrefire stuff will be saved for reloading, de-primed, cleaned and stored somewhere.

Like Macadam, in the long grass or the holes in the walls and never to be seen again. Depending on location, may take them home. Wish I had all I ever used, would make nice few pound now at the scrap merchants, plenty money for brass:D

Hey lads, quick question on the same lines. Was told recently that i should be careful with how much spent rounds i keep at home. I dump my .22 rounds but police all other spent shells. If i got a home inspection i can only have the number of rounds on my licence which includes used and unused rounds. Does anyone know how accurate this is? Is it part on this proposed new legislation?

According to legislation at the moment, any componet of ammunition( case, primer, bullet head, powder) counts as 1 round of ammo. If you own a bullet belt or have a 20mm howitzer case by your fireplace and do not have a FAC for it, you are in breach of the Firearms act, or if you have a cert for 100 rds and you have 100rds and a few empties, make your reservation in Mountjoy.

If you can do the job, do it. If you can't do the job, just teach it. If you really suck at it, just become a union executive or politician.

Damn, so even though the most harm you could do with the casings is fill a sock and beat someone with it (not really just trying to exaggerate the point), for all intensive purposes they are counted as live rounds. How stupid are the powers that be.

It came up as i told a lad in conversation that i was going to clear out all my old brass and asked for suggestions (scrap yard, anyone collecting them, etc) and he told me that anyone i gave it to would have to have valid FAC for every calibre i gave in. Genuinely though he was taking the p**s.

May bring it all back to the club and dispose of it. Cheers tony for that.

I belive somone got a reply to this from DOJ RE the bullet boards, howitzer shells, ammo belt belts etc and posted here.Accordingly and paraphrasing,if you have such you are not going to be prosecuted or bothered by the law on this, and to if you wish expand your collection as well, please do so.:) Apprently comes down to again another DC case last year where another victim was hauled up for having reloading equipment and a bullet board or somthing of the like, and having the case flung out again,to much waste of our tax money.

Only if it's a small one that fits in one's sleeve and it doesn't fall out after every dozen sincere faced handshakes in public places.

To be honest, I'm fed up finding fired shotgun cartridges in particular dotted in and around the farm....

Hi Grizzly. Twas me who rang the DoJ on this issue. Was told to collect away and if I wanted a letter to cover my ass on this, just drop them an email and they would send a cover letter.

Another reason to use a breaking gun rather than a semi-auto. At least you have some chance of catching your empties and bringing them home for disposal. I can't understand shooters littering the farms we shoot with their rubbish.

Hi Grizzly, you wouldn't have specific details on this do you please like the court, the case and/or the date?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 566 ✭✭✭westwicklow

So would it be possible to "give" empty ammo to a reloader in another juristiction who could put it to good use?

I bring home all my shells and dispose of them in a safe manner, (I hoard the hornet rounds) I even use fiber wads now for all Game shooting. I was at one stage looking for cardboard cartridges like my Dad used to have but couldnt find them. In case you havent guessed it I used to be a Green supporter:D

The cardboard ones were a bugger for swelling in wet weather........sometimes it was nearly impossible to inset them in the chamber if swelled.
