That's very handy. The data are live data? Where do you get the data from?

From the XML feed on their website. It's just not displayed for some reason.

Good job on the stats, was contemplating doing that myself. Should be able to extract some interesting information about the flow of the bikes, depending on the granularity of the statistics.

He has the data from the beginning so if there are any stats you're looking for let us know. We're basically putting up what is useful for us for now but maybe we've overlooked something that other people might use.

Thanks for sending that on. We noticed (after the fact) that there were other sites out there showing bikes/spaces, so it's whatever UI people want to use themselves. We expect to be adding other cycling resources to the site aswell in the future.

Keeping track of the stats is definitely good though, means you can work out average usage etc. and work out if any stations are over or underused.

This is the question we faced so my husband set up this site that can be viewed from any device, initially for our own use, but it might be useful to others too:

    www.dubsonwheels.com

I think he's going to put some other cycling related stuff up there too in the near future as he's an avid cyclist.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Looks good. Just to point out there is also an iPhone app, which is much better if you have an iPhone, because it uses your GPS co-ordinates to locate the nearest station.

What is the URL for the XML feed?

Nice to see OSM being used too! :)

Reading the source of the dublinbikes webpage isn't very hard....
https://abo-dublin.cyclocity.fr/service/carto -- full list of stations
https://abo-dublin.cyclocity.fr/service/stationdetails/16 -- where 16 is the station id number

    :)

That is a good feature but difficult to implement across a common platform that'll work for all smartphones with GPS.

Just saw a hot chick on a Velib pulled by a Garda on Motorbike for being on a mobile while cycling. Just thought you all should be aware of this newsworthy item.

She wasnt wearing a helmet, but did have lovely long blond hair and a nice pair of riding boots on. Apt I thought.

There is was a very nice iPhone app at http://fusio.net/dublinbikesapp/ but they appear to have been told to stop.
Due to the threat of legal action from J.C. Decaux the Dublin Bikes iPhone App is no longer available to download and there will be no further updates posted. Thank you for all the positive feedback and comments.

Da feck? Surely this app is of benefit to JC Decaux and their scheme?

I wonder why. As I was told once by a Guard, there's no specific law against being on a mobile while cycling. If you're cycling erratically or dangerously, that's already covered by the standard 'due care and attention' provisions.

I saw another foxy lady on a DB today (brunette this time, in a pencil skirt [be still my beating heart!]), also on her mobile, and my initial thought was simply 'What a great advertisement for the scheme'.

    (I guess that's why I'm not a Guard. ;))

Does anyone know if DCC or JCDecaux is using the data mentioned above in a similar way? Given that it's freely available to them, you'd think they'd use it to feed back improvements into the scheme.

Just looking at it, I don't think it is to do with scraping the XML feed, probably to do with image copyright violation.

I bet JCD will bring out their own iPhone app soon enough, but it wont be free!

I'd imagine JC Decaux would do everything possible to reduce DB usage, given that they're paying for the service. The only reason they introduced it was to get more advertising spaces, so I can't see them shedding too many tears if people find the bikes inaccessible.

Tried it out for the first time last weekend, CC registration for the 3-day ticket took a while but the bikes are surprisingly good. Lots of passers-by asking about the service.

If anyone needs to access info about dublin bikes on the go, i've made handy web app http://dublinbikes2go.com where you can check bike availability, search for stations, mark favourites and uses built in gps to find nearest station.
Let me know what you think some other boards.ie posters have given some really constructive feedback

No offence paddy2k, but I don't see what it adds to what's already available, and I'm not a fan of the interface.

Thanks for the constructive feedback Chris, I was just offering an alternative to people who a) aren't at a desktop to view the official site, b) give people who don't own an iPhone a way to find the nearest station, c) give iPhone uses a new option while fusios Dublin Bikes app is removed from the appstore.

How would you like to see the interface improved?

Nice site, I never even thought to use Open Street Maps, went with Google Maps Static myself. One suggestion, I tried to access the site at http://dubsonwheels.com/ and recieved a server error, you can remedy that in your DNS settings.

I'm a fairly new user of mobile browsing (i.e. I don't do it, but things like this app would make me start), and I'm browsing on a Nokia 6303 with the Opera Mini browser.

My issue was that I don't necessarily know street names and your site seemed to be built around "pick a street name where there are bikes" - i.e. it took 3 or 4 clicks "deep" before I found a map, and I couldn't zoom or move the map.

It turns out I was using it wrong, and if I use the "Bike Me" function it does everything I need it to do.

I'd still like to be able to zoom or move the map, and it'd be cool if you could introduce the colour coding for full/half-full/empty bike stands, but that's just nit picking.

It's a great app and it's now my first bookmark on my phone :D.

opera mini is my browser of choice too (try opera mini 5 beta it's got tabs http://m.opera.com/next) The app was developed with Opera Mini specifically in mind.

Glad you like the app and find it useful, the features you've suggested are good ideas, I'll try and add them in, maybe little arrows along the bottom of the image.

I was vaguely satisfied to see a van pull up (iRMS) and a lad give each bike a very brief once-over to make sure it was locked, and that the saddle was tight. Outside the Lord Edward at midnight tonight.

Also, on the far side of Christchurch, people were very interested in the bikes. I'm really hoping this whole scheme really becomes part of the fabric of the city.
