Thought was much easier than previous ones, did find that time was an issue, did not get finished, when I left exam remembered stuff I should have put in and did not but that always the way, was easy paper on whole

Thought it was fine. I also applied 787m&n, and concluded it wasn't a PE. I wasn't familiar with PE beyond that fact the concept existed but the DTA was fairly clear.

Would the shared office space not constitute a PE under Article 5 (Para 2(c))?

I mentioned that, but also para 3 (d & e), and Para 4. Said given it was part time, a shared service office and only referrals being made to the London office where contracts are concluded that it wasn't a PE given the facts.

Quite relieved after that assessment, I too concluded that even though she wasn't an agent, that it was a PE based on the office being specifically listed, but then the point about it being rented and a shared service is probably valid. I guess the majority of the marks will be for the rationale and though process more than final conclusion!

Did u guys say that SARP didn't apply because he was going back to UK for 35 days per year thus that would be deemed more than "incidental" duties?

Overall, just happy that I think I'll have picked up marks here and there, my expectations are lowering by the day!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 153 ✭✭dustyrip

I said that SARP applied, but who knows! In relation to the 35 days I just said that he wouldn't be entitled to a PAYE Exclusion Order as can't get one if the 30 day rule is breached. I advised him to consider reducing the days in the UK from 35 to 30 though.

Absolutely don't freak out, however you faired, u have picked up a few % going into the final exam and there is still lots of time. I think with Indirect Taxes it needs to just click with you and doing lots of scenario based Qs will help you in that regard. It's not a huge course content wise so lots of time to recover.

Anyone feeling hard done by in the Part 3 CA's. results?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 693 ✭✭✭Uncle Mclovin

What sort of results are considered to be good in these assessments? Anything over 50%?

Does the tax institute give details on how all students did or do they release any information?

I think the Examiner's Report will show the highest, lowest and average marks given out. The lowest is usually about 1%, so they obviously mark them quite hard ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42 crazylikeme

I think it always helps to do well in CA but to be honest for the amount of work I put in mine it only shaved off few percent, so really not that great anyway, the main thing is for you to do well in your exams. How well you will do depends on how much effort you put in. So do not freak out but start studying, the poor result in your CA is like a kick in the butt and shoudl hopefully show you where you are lacking progress. Good luck. I am part 2 too and it can get a little de-motivating the amount of stuff to cover, especially when I got exemtions from Part 1, I do find myself struggling a lot....

Any idea when the examiners report would be available?

The papers and solutions and short examiners report are on Blackboard now, but no mention of highest/lowest/av mark.

I can't see them on Blackboard. Are you doing Part 3 maybe?

Apologies, yes I'm Part 3! Assumed Part 2 would have gone up also!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 693 ✭✭✭Uncle Mclovin

I just found them on Blackboard. I guess they were all put up together. It can be difficult to navigate through Blackboard at times.

I think in order to sit the exams you have to have completed the Professional Skills Assignment and Interim Examination. I could be wrong though.

you are too late to do April part 2 if you have not yet registered. You can register for August sitting though

Hi sorry, I wasn't clear in my last post. I'm thinking of registering for the part 2 summer course in april and was hoping to get my hands on some exam questions just to see what I'm getting into or am I better starting from part 1 and ignoring the exemptions. It's been a long long time since I did exams but would have a good basic knowledge of tax so was hoping to start part 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 693 ✭✭✭Uncle Mclovin

I think you have to be registered with the tax institute to view the past papers. They are all available to students on Blackboard. Could be wrong though.

I'd take what exemptions I'd get if I were you.

Starting study leave for Part 2's shortly - It's my first time on study leave so don't want to 'waste' it as such. Anyone any recommendations about the best way to handle/approach it?

When I was on my first round of study leave for the accounting exams, I took a few days off at the start as I said "sure I have loads of time, it will be grand"

Needless to say I found it very hard to get started back into the frame of mind for studying

a few years later when I was on leave for the part 2's (no study leave for them sadly - all annual leave!!) I got into it straight away on the first day and just did a shorter day and it worked a treat as I was still used to getting up at the same time as I would have been for work and being in the right mindset to study

some may disagree but it worked for me!
    best of luck with it

.......so happy I will never be doing another exam again in my life :)
