The first reply of any After Hours thread.

In almost every newly posted afterhours thread, somebody posts the first reply with some stupid half-witted one liner, thinking they are funny. Some people hit the jackpot and say something genuinely funny, and receive about 3,500,000 thanks. But others fail... PHAIL so bad. It's just funny to watch them try to muster a laugh/thank-fest with a stupid comment and then nothing happens.

    PHAIL!

Betcha somebody will try it with this one. Go on. Say something funny. It's not funny if it gets less than 15 thanks.

    YORE MA..

.. is a delightful woman. I shall take her out for a nice romantic dinner.. and maybe if things work out - in a few months, we can go out the back of your house, throw the pig-skin around and maybe you can start calling me Dad.

    Whaddya say?!

Could have done better there when you tried to capitalise on my double post. Like the post from Basquille, that was better.

Ah OP , it's the way of AH but once your thank's post goes over 200 + you stop counting .

Wish I could think of something witty enough to get a load of thanks. Thinking about how unfunny I am is making me so glum:( Hopefully people will give me pity thanks to cheer me up.

I think the "H" was accidental.
Maybe the OP meant to put Pail and expected a bucket load of thanks.

i am probably waffling here after the bottles of wine i have had but tis not the point of boards to express opinions while some will be hilarious some really drab and all the middle average joe stuff - but if you dont like a thread or if its not funny enough for you - why dont you simply read the next thread - i mean this is not comedyboard.ie its a general site no

or maybe i have drunk too much wine - or is that too little wine - ill go with the latter and refill my glass while i read through the threads in all their glory....

what you should be worried about is your thanks to posts ratio. Quality not quantity.

Another thing annoying me in After Hours (or a lot threads for that matter) is that some people think they are witty making unoriginal, unfunny recession/Fianna Fail* related jokes even in threads where the don't fit, but of course they feel the need to slip them in.

Newsflash: You're not that funny and I hope you get an AIDs-related illness

*Should be noted that Swine Flu jokes also seem to be getting overused now

Actually sorry , but I have got there before you and stated this myself in a few few threads ........weeks ( if not months) ago .

Be pointless thanking the same people just for the sake of it to...

Some people , not you and i , thank any ol ****e

This type of threads just re-inforces why I rarely visit 'After Hours'.

It's either threads complaining about moderators, asking how much moderators get paid, applying for a moderator position or it's pissing and moaning about 'Thanks' / downtime etc.

Save this type of muck for Feedback... at least there the thread is made interesting by LOLcats.

Here.. it's just pointless, drawn-out for 18 pages with the same conversation and terms thrown about ("I rarely thank.. although I do like getting thanked", "I don't want this post thanked.. or do I?", "it's all about quality, not quantity", "is that a freckle or a boil?!") and it goes no-where.

So, in summary: Thanks = chewing gum for the eyes!

i usually look at the replied/viewed ratio before i open an AH thread.
the lower the ratio, the better my 02 wireless broadband is working.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,529 ✭✭✭TJJP

I shirlie will.... (sheesh another post wasted, heading for 450 in 5 years...)

See now "You're not that funny and I hope you get an AIDs-related illness" is not funny.

But you have only been here for what 2 months, so give AHs a chance before you jump in with both feet.:):pac:
