Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

By the way, i signed up on Garmin to receive an email whenever an update becomes available, but did not receive any notification.

Did anyone else receive a notification from Garmin letting them know that an update was available to download?

    Thanks,
    Dave
No, and I signed up for update notifications too.

It is incredible to think that a major route such as the M6 from Ballinasloe to Galway which is open for at least a year has not been included in the update. Definitely not good value for money.

Also ditto re the update emails.

  • Registered Users Posts: 861 ✭✭✭peking97

To be fair it's hardly open over a year is it?...Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it opened shortly after the flooding last Jan/Feb?

3 years ago in Spain all motorways under construction were shown as hidden detail lines, recently completely ones too, Ireland is in the sticks lad

Ballinasloe to Galway was opened on 18/12/09. Hardly at least a year to be fair.

Hmmmm! Maybe I exaggerated a bit on the new stretch of M6 but the revised speed limits going from 100Km to 120km on the existing stretches of motorway have not been included on the new update either. I think the speed limits were revised last September.... but I could be wrong.

TomTom has the motorway from BSloe to Galway on its latest update.

They'll reel you in with all these promises of new motorways being on the maps, and while it's true, most the backroads are in the wrong places, so it's as useful as a cock flavoured lollipop unless you're on one of these motorways.

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 24,789 Mod ✭✭✭✭KoolKid

The other side of it is including roads too soon. TomToms v845 maps included the new M50/M2 & M50/M3 freeflow interchanges. Both of which have yet to be completed.
Some back roads are off but in my experience this has drastically improved over the pat 18 months.

Are you downloading the 2011.10B file?
There was an extraction problem with the original file.

I think I have that problem also. I bought a Garmin sat nav 265nuvi a few weeks ago and I didnt get around to updating the mapping on it until today. I registered the product etc and device connects with the PC. When I went onto my account to download the updates. The file that I needed to downloaded extracted but it was followed by an error message saying "Unable to eastablish an internet connection from Garmin Servers, Please check your internet connection and try again" My internet connection works fine but this message keeps appearing. Anyone know what I should do next? My Laptop is Windows XP operated by the way!

Hi. I have a nuvi 215 sat nav, maps for uk and ireland. Never been updated before. Bought 6mths ago. Have spent hours and hours and hours trying to find out how to update to latest version which shop told me today only was 2010.2. can anyone give me the exact link so i can just click on it and relax. Plz help

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,250 ✭✭✭pixbyjohn

Have you bought the updates and wish to download them ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 220 ✭✭nailer8

    Just updated to the 2011.10
although a big fan of the Garmins this update is useless, If you have 2010.3 it's not worth taking the time to download. No new M9 outside carlow, or waterford bypass, No New M7 (very new in fairness), no new M6

I am sure there are improvements but i couldn't find any.

  • Registered Users Posts: 861 ✭✭✭peking97

Just noticed a new Lifetime Update is available this evening.

Does anyone know if it's possible to download the new map file without having the SatNav connected first?...it's just that mine is out on loan and it would be useful if I could D/L the maps in advance.

Nothing to do with Garmin .. it's their map supplier Navteq that needs to pull their socks up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 861 ✭✭✭peking97

I wouldn't agree that it's *nothing to do with Garmin*. As a major customer of Navteq I think it reasonable to assume they can exert a certain amount of pressure on them.

i got a gift of a garmin 205w in june and updated it as requested within the 60 days of purchased. HOW new are the maps on this satnav now

Sure it's the same on google maps!

Finally - the N25 Waterford City Bypass is now on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,022 ✭✭✭eirman

I cannot believe the speed of getting the latest update (2011.20). It's about 5 or 6 times faster, and I'm not exaggerating. It didn't download the usual 4gigs.
(As I only have IRL/UK installed it must have downloaded a smaller file)

Decompression is much faster and installation is a bit faster.

However the mapping is still way behind .... the new liffey bridge is not there yet.

I wish I had checked this thread before I paid for the lifetime update only to get an update that still doesn't have the M6 on it. I have emailed garmin about this before and they have pointed me to Navteq. It is farcical.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 831 ✭✭✭daingeanrob

so does anyone recommend the lifetime maps. even for Europe?

It's odd because on the Navteq map site the M6 is shown fully and has been for a while

Highly recommended and great value compared to the previous annual fee.

So the maps are always about 9 months out of date ... you just have to live with that. Anyhow, when major road construction almost ceases here in Ireland next year, your 2012 updates will be pretty accurate and up to date.

Hi guys. I scanned through the forum and this thread and didn't see any

I got a Nuvi 550 a couple of years ago, never registered it until today :o
Anyway, am heading off to Canada and the US in a couple of weeks, and went looking to get mapping for North America. It has City Navigator Europe loaded (Aug 2008). Guess I'll be updating that at some point, but for now the priority is to get maps for the upcoming trip.
On the Garmin site, when I click "Additional Maps for this Product" it gives a list of map products, which includes City Navigator North America NT. However, when I click on Products to see if my GPS is compatible, its not listed.

Anyone know if CN North America is actually compatible with a Nuvi 550 before I waste 50 quid and half a day downloading it???

For info. There is a new map update available this evening.

If you go in to My Dashboard, Garmin seem to have cocked it up, looks like you will be updating an old download. If you click on it, the next screen will show the correct info and start downloading 2011.30.

Yes, I'm well aware of that thank you, and have pointed out the same to many other people on here in the past if you'd care to examine my posting history. Doesn't stop me getting annoyed at the whole thing though.

Things have improved but its not instantaneous - franlky though motorways are not really a big issue - big roads, big publicity, big signs so not a big problem - but its really is about time that Local Authorities/NRA/ Dept Of Communications/Dept Of Transport switched on to the value of SatNavs for commercial and tourist activity - so they should help keep the related mapping up to date by passing on info - which currently they make no effort to do. Even one Local Authority complained that SatNavs were causing people to use the wrong routes but when examined they had made no effort to pass information to the SatNav map makers!

And whilst we worry about keeping roads up to date other countries have realtime traffic and weather routing info!

I disagree. They should be able to get these right first.

On the motorways - as I said if LA's/NRA etc contributed things would greatly improve and no reason why they can't except that they have not copped on that SatNavs have significant commercial benefits.

As for Traffic - great that we are getting there but a system covering Dublin only has a long way to go - yet again poor institutional understanding for the benefits!

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 24,789 Mod ✭✭✭✭KoolKid

Maybe so, but its the responsibility of Navteq & TeleAtlas to correct their own maps regardless of any other involvement.
Live traffic in Dublin is a start, I have no doubt it will extend and improve.

True..... but there will always be a timelag and whatever can reduce this timelag must be worked on...

Absolutely. Even when I've reported map inaccuracies to Navteq in the past it's taken up to 3 release slots, or over 18 months, for them to incorporate them. You can blame the LA's or the NRA or whoever all you like, but if it takes that long to get reported and easily verifiable errors (such as incorrect street names) corrected, then there's something seriously wrong with the whole process from start to finish. Having a map file format that allowed incremental corrections and updates would be a first stage in this.

Having downloaded this I was disappointed to find sections of the M8 and M9 not included, as said, it seems to still take at least 9 months to get them updated.

    Hi there,

I tried to update my Garmin 3790T the other night but the update was coming in at 4gb!!!!! As a newbie Sat Nav owner, I've no idea what size an update should be, but surely not 4gb? Maybe I'm wrong!

Advice / guidance very much appreciated!
