so, new season, only way is up. aim is simply to win the league this time after a 4th and a 2nd place in previous seasons. we have the squad to do it, but the summer season will see us miss players and the players that may not see much action in the first few weeks, will have a massive part to play as we progress. every game is a must win and even losing one game could cost us.

we ended the season on an 8 game unbeatebn run, our best ever form, so more of the same please. this is the squad i think, pleae amend if im wrong.

Thought we were playing Full Irish first but might be a good thing we're not. Can't wait for this. Going on holidays on Wednesday so a win would be a nice send off please

Also, they don't seem to have filled the other spot in the league yet which is damn frustrating. That'll mean missed games if they don't sort it out.

Yeah, it has, but they said in the email this morning that they mailed last week about it.

Do you have any record of that Mick?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

Well it hadn't been changed on the site. I checked yesterday and we were down to play Shacktar.

I checked it this morning before I texted.

    Then I got that email.

So they just changed it this morning.

Anyway, no matter. Although it means Eddie misses out because of it.

Spot on Ed, will provide a tough start to the league but a game in which we are more than capable of getting the 3 points.

looks like conor has pulled out of the squad and also mark possibly, as he cannot afford it.

considering both can play in CM and CM is a weakspot, i think that is a disaster. losing derek is softened with collies and Iains inclusion but with Iain out injured, were back to square one - having to play players there who are out of position. i think mark is coming down tonight anyway to see what the story is.

so what does this mean, do we need to get in 2 more quality players?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

Just because I played right full for boards doesn't mean I'm playing out of position when I play centre mid. I played there for years when I was younger (and, eh, fitter). What's the story with Conor? We won't get any more players in at this stage. Nothing we can do really. We done without Derek for half a season last year so we'll have to make do.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    Conor's going nowhere.

You should get a job with a tabloid paper Ed.

    He's in the squad.

I'd take as many quality players as we can get.

Gav has said to me that another bloke he knows is interested in playing. Supposed to be a good CM/CB.

I might ask him to bring him this evening.

3-0 win. great result, edgy first half, was even enough but we were super in the 2nd half. dave, jules and art with the goals. full value for the win, they hardly had a sniff, our defence was superb.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,032 ✭✭✭FrankGrimes

Yeh, nice performance tonight - nothing earth shattering but a nice solid shift put in across the board. They're a solid and well organised team and that our keeper barely had a save to make is a good marker to go by.

For me Collie and Conor bossed the midfield like I haven't seen us do before and that gave us loads of go forward ball. Yeh we were a bit edgy and rushed on it at times and yeh we spurned a few opportunities to whip it in early but for me it'd be pretty picky to not be happy with that performance and a solid 3 points.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 21,693 Mod ✭✭✭✭helimachoptor

I felt we never really got into top gear but thankfully never did the full irish. Great midfield peformance and a good start to the season.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

Yeh, never really clicked into top gear as the lads say. Much more to come from us. Good start!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

collie grew into the game big time and got better and better as he went on. conor was solid throughout. having players in there who are natural in that position is vital. long long way to go, but we are on a great run, 8 wins and a draw from 9 and a great way to start the season.

i thought in the 2nd half we were superb to be honest.

    Well done lads:)

Extremely pissed off at the fixture change from a purely personal point of view. I hate missing games, especially when I know I could have made it if the bastards gave a bit more notice!

Anyway, clean sheet and a few goals, good stuff.

Yeah, we had the best result in the league last night.

We strolled though that match, in fairness, Full Irish never really turned up.

We'll have to be a bit more aware in future games I think, we were a step behind the play, Full Irish were a step and a half behind the play, that's why it looked so comfortable for us.

We contained them in our third of the pitch though, well done to the defence/gk on that one, a clean sheet is always to be commended.

Also, for the forwards to get three goals, three different scorers too, that's good. It's nice to have the options up front, and Eddie also adds another dimension there for when we need it. (genius sub by me to bring Art back on when I did:D)

When Conor and Collie get used to each other's games they'll be an excellent centre midfield pairing, and we still have great options on the wings.

Looking good lads, the squad will be tested this season, it's all about how resilient we are.
