hmmm. could be better executed but interesting. telly would only **** it up more. leave it where it is for a while...

    point taken re television

but how often do you see stuff like this coming out of the west of Ireland?

compared to the likes of killinaskully which is happy to just show painfully unfunny charicatures of boggers, this at least has some subtle humour to it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,706 ✭✭✭120_Minutes

true, but its hardly original, like was mentioned its a west of ireland spin on trailer park boys, not that thats a bad thing...it just needs a little work.

Hardy Bucks has made it into the first round of RTE's Storyland so the first episode should be online in March.

It'll be interesting to see how it goes down.

The Viper ain't gonna be too happy.

Had Hardy Bucks it won before the starting gun? I'm a little sad to see Happyslapper, Running Low and Psych Ward struggling while Chez Spuds lead the pack.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,391 ✭✭✭✭mikom

    Dunno, you tell me RTE-Beloved

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29 PopBeloved

Yeah, RTE send out scouts who cite their preferences in competitions they run. Because they like getting sued.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29 PopBeloved

The votes are probably going to be reset because the voting system isn't tamper proof.

Just watched it there... a bit fast paced.. but i sapose they only had 7 minutes unlike the you tube vids which were as long as they liked...

    http://www.rte.ie/storyland/finalists/hardybucks.html

Id say they will get through.. 45% so far...

Yep the youtube version of that video is 9 minutes long and all the better for it.

just seen the storyland episode, very funny. These guys are good, not the usual rte safe option unfunny comedy ! The heads at donnybrook should sign them up fast or they could have another Father Ted situation on their hands.

I'm sick saying this to people: Father Ted was never offered to RTE.

However. I do agree with you that the Hardy Bucks guys are funny. Very funny. I want to see them on our screens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,772 ✭✭✭civis_liberalis

God they should be voted up. Unfair advantage, seeing as the video in the lead at the moment has established actors in it.

Hehe, my old hometown never looked so well ;).

Come on Mayo, it would be good to win something!

The voting would appear to be fixed somewhat and now the votes are not jumping all over the place anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,480 ✭✭✭projectmayhem

They've taken the polling system down so no one will know where they are until it all ends.

Also, vote for rental boys ;)

How does RTE think that's a good idea? The voting system started out the competition compromised and now they want less transparency.

Well it's becoming evident that RTE aren't quite as well prepared for the whole project as maybe they should have been. It is a new venture for RTE, and they're letting Storyland crews make the mistakes for them before the launch an online service properly, but it is a bit unfair on some of the productions.

Rental Boys page had Hardy Bucks for the first day & a half. One other production (not sure which one) only had their promo up for 2 days too. Simple things like that are frustrating at best.

But hiding the tally is an active step. I think it's a bad idea because when people start getting eliminated, there's going to be suspicions about whether there were mysterious vote surges and other dodgy stuff. And since confidence has been, quite rightly, shaken in RTE's capacity to manage this thing, people are going to be even more likely to call shenanigans.

Looks like RTE's latest (well first actually) online venture is up and running and largely being ignored -- mainly due to virtually zero advertising.

So in case you boarders aint heard -- there are 9 online drama/comedies/sci-fi currently online at www.rte.ie/storyland

Give em a gander and a vote -- some great stuff on there imo -- stuff you'd never normally see on any other manifestation of RTE.

    Regards and thanks!

Just watched Chez Spuds - rather League of Gentlemen in tone and texture. Nicely made though.

Going by his posting history the one done by the same guys as the roaring twenties. So which ever one is the shítest then.

    That would be Pub World

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,559 ✭✭✭✭AnonoBoy

As much as it pains me to say it 'Pub World' is not the worst epsiode up there at all.

I think that honour falls to 'Rental Boys'.

    Awful. Just awful.

Pub World seriously needs to find a script though for episode 2. Having someone appear in a pub, having an alien appear and having them discover they can talk to each other does not an episode make. What they have up there as episode one is just an extended teaser.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,358 ✭✭✭Dennis the Stone

Oh I was just saying that Pub World was from the same people, not that it was the shi.test.. I couldn't be bothered watching any of them to be honest!

Oh GOD, not ANOTHER person whoring their latest 5 euro RTE drivel on Boards..... Is it jimjim? (I see someone else said the roaring 20s. I LOVED that thread. lol)

The people pimping particular series are obviously long-time posters and the people with few posts (Hey!) haven't been. So...

I've got nothing to do with any of these series; I like talking about telly on the internet. If I want to talk about Dollhouse or Terminator or Lost, I have my pick of places; if I want to talk about Storyland, I don't. And it sucks that posters are being treated like they exhale herpes for talking about Irish web serials on an Irish message board.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,937 ✭✭✭mardybumbum

    I voted for hardybucks myself.
I was really impressed by psych ward as well, but I think it was quite obvious when the young fella was eating his cornflakes that there was going to be a dead family member lying about the house.
I suppose its all down to personal taste really.

Think OP's motivation is to raise awareness of Storyland project as a whole, not just his involvement.

I thought Rental Boys was good, and Running Low was interesting, as is Pub World.

Hardy Bucks episode is not as funny as their You Tube stuff, but is still a strong contender compared to other Storyland projects

Can't stand Chez Spuds or Jenny was a Friend of Mine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,118 ✭✭✭afatbollix

some one said in one of the other threads that its a beta for the new rte web player... its working well so far... if thats the case

just watched a selection of them there. interesting concept overall and i'm presuming a couple are from genuine first-timers. If so I think they are to be encouraged. Why attack people for trying? good concept, variable quality, top marks for initiative, a little less for the results.

Just out of interest, you were involved in the Roaring Twenties as well; were you involved in Pub World?

I wasn't involved in either of them but I know the people behind the productions:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

Most of them where terrible. They either had good production or a bit of a story but none had both. Hardy bucks was the best out of the lot, they had the right attitude and poked fun at themselves. 2nd would be running low. had it's moments but fizzled out towards the end to the point I wouldn't have any interest in seeing another episode.

If they opened it out so you had more entry's, it looks like they just got their Dublin friends together to soak up some funding.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,706 ✭✭✭120_Minutes

Its thanks to this very forum that i discovered hardy bucks, and even though this wasnt the best episode, it still got my vote. there are parts where i actually laughed out loud, which tv comedy doesnt make me do anymore, especially irish made.

drinkin, schmokin, bluies, anything more and yer just being greedy like.

None of these will play for me. Am I missing anything? (semi-deliberate ambiguity there)
