    Ricky Steamboat.

    Ricky_Steamboat_US_Champion_530h.jpg

My second pick is my first choice for Round 2, Ricky Steamboat. Steamboat is the quinntessential babyface who never worked heel as far as i know throughout his career. He is the ideal foil for any number of possible heels that I may select and by that token opens up many many possibilities for me. Hes the type of star that you can build a roster around and be confident in his ability to carry the promotion on his back.

Steamboat's greatest strength is his abiity inside the wrestling ring. I could pick pretty much any wrestler to feud with him and I'll be guaranteed a fantastic match,He has the credibility of being a former World Champion and the resect og hispeer throught the wrestling industry. I personally view him in the top ten in-ring workers of all time. His style was revolutionary for its time, with his Japanese style deep armdrags, high flying splashes and incredible ability on the mat. Again he fulfils the criteria that I mentioned for my first pick; he is someone I personally would pay to see wrestle. Again his ability to work a great wrestling match as opposed to simply working off his charisma alone is very important to me as a fan, and by extenion as a booker.

His resume of feuds and awesome matches is quite unparallaled. His matches with Flair are the finest in-ring feud in the history of North American wrestling. 3 of their matches have been given the coveted 5 star rating by Dave Meltzer, as well as match of the year in 1987:in reality they had a 5 star match every single time of the dozens of times they hooked up, on many occasions twice in the one day. Perhaps the treatest compliment I can pay the guy coames from the lips of the greatest of them all, Ric flair, who calls him the greatest he ever stepped in the ring with. His match with Randy Savage at Wrestlemania III stands up over 20 years later as one of, if not the greatest in the history of the event and was the observer Match of the Year in 1989. Even last night at the age of 56, he outshone guys half his age with his performance at Wrestlemania 25. If he could do that at that age, what could he do in his prime?

Again I'm delighted with my pick for the first round. Even though I've several great ideas, even if I book my foirst rtwo choices against each other, Eddie Vs Steamboat would be a match for the ages and quite possibly one of the greatest matches in the history of wrestling.

My second pick is Rob Van Dam.

    RVD.jpg

The whole F'N show - RVD is a guy who has delivered each and every night he performed in ECW and the WWE. One of the most popular wrestlers in history - as was proved in 2001 where immediately upon his arrival in the WWE, he became the most over guy on the roster. Had RVD been used to his full potential in the WWE, he would have gone on to be one of the all time greats.

Capable of working an array of styles, I believe him and my first pick Foley will tear the house down, and will make the basis of my main event. Like Foley, can play the face and the heel, and both can interchange the roles well. Promo-wise - if given the stick with no limits, RVD has demonstrated that he has the mic-skills needed to compete with Foley. His ECW work is proof - not to meantion his ONS promo from 2005.

    Noteable Achievements:
    WWE Champion - 1 time
WWE Intercontinental Champion - 6 times
    WWE/World Tag-Team Champion - 3 times
Mr Money in the Bank - 2006
ECW World Heavyweight Champion - 1 time
ECW Television Champion - 1 time (23 month reign)
PWI Most Popular Wrestler of the Year - 2001, 2002
PWI top 500 #1 Wrestler of the Year - 2002
Pro Wrestling Report - 2006 Match of the Year - Rob Van Dam vs John Cena - One Night Stand 2006

    Picks:
    1: Mick Foley
    2: Rob Van Dam

"The snake will always bite back."

    27.jpg

My second pick is going to be one of the most intense competitors to ever step foot inside the squared circle, I give you Jake 'The Snake' Roberts!

Jake Roberts pretty much had it all. A great gimmick, superb mic skills, terrific ability and not to mention what was a devastating finisher in its day, the DDT. When you watched Jake you genuinely felt like you were watching a crazy SOB (and when you consider what he's been through you weren't wrong!)

It's a shame he had the personal demons that he did but even with those problems he still managed to cement himself as a legend of the business and had many memorable feuds with the likes of Randy Savage and Rick Rude.

Here's one of the great heel promos from Jake which in my opinion is one of the best heel promos ever. It happened right after he slapped Miss Elizabeth in what was a genuinely shocking moment at the time. Roberts comes across like a completely deranged lunatic. This is how you cut a promo, kids.

I reckon Jake 'The Snake' will fit in very nicely alongside my previous first-round pick The Rock and I believe they could come up with some great moments together.

    MNG roster

    Round 1 pick: The Rock
Round 2 pick: Jake 'The Snake' Roberts

    Brian Pillman

This is a wrestler who really had a two-part career, and he entertained me equally with both parts

In the early '90s Pillman attracted a lot of attention because of his high-flying style, which was pretty unique in American wrestling. He had countless great matches back then with smaller wrestlers who wouldn't get pushed to the main event. And as fresh as those matches seem today, back then it must have been something else

He went on to form an all-round amazing tag team with Steve Austin (also a pick of mine) called the Hollywood Blonds, who were infamously held back by politics, which was a real shame because both of them had it all

Pillman suffered a very bad ankle injury later on and that put a stop to him wrestling the type of match that made him famous. But it was during this period that he was evolving into the Loose Cannon character. He would do some controversial stuff during tv shows, like apparently going against the script in a match with Kevin Sullivan in WCW, showing up in ECW and threatening to piss in the ring, and pulling a gun on Stone Cold on Raw

Pillman had undeniable charisma and if he had never suffered that ankle injury who knows how big a star he could have become. Unfortunately he died young from heart disease, but he made a big impression on a lot of people during his life, me included. I'm really happy that I got this pick

Having given it much thought, I have decided to retain the services of John Cena
    451777475.jpg

Cena's career has gone from strength to strength, having recieved a hard time from the crowd in recent months, his in-ring ability has drastically improved and for his size, possesses unbelievable strength. While his charisma and mic skills may only appeal to a younger generation of fans, he is a solid superstar to build a roster around and there is definite potential for him there as a heel as well.

    KANE

    o_kane_(3).jpg

The Big Red Machine has always possessed the brute strength to beat anyone on his day. It is fair to say that he never really reached his potential but there's no reason why he wont do it here =]

Kane will always draw attention with his mysterious past and short temper. A consistent in-ring performer who always plays to his strengths, with the right push there's no telling how far he could go.

    Accomplishments:
    * Pro Wrestling Illustrated
o PWI Tag Team of the Year (1999) with X-Pac[75]
o PWI ranked him # 13 of the 500 best singles wrestlers in the PWI 500 in 2004[76]

I am going very risky here again, but again I am going for a great great tag team. They will suit my card right down to the ground when I actually put it together. They are not known in mainstream US wrestling too well, but thats the main streams loss, not mine. They started out as a team, but have had some of the greatest matches I have ever seen against each other. My 3rd round pick is the team of KENTA and Naomichi Marufuji

    250px-Naomichi_Marufuji.jpg250px-KENTA.jpg

Facing each other in an incredible match

    Tagging

Maybe some more obvious picks to follow. However, I feel the roster I have in mind would have something for everyone

    * for the record, they both have peformed in ROH, therefore making the criteria. They have main tagged in Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Children of all ages, MuffDaddy proudly brings to you, the 5 time tag-team champions of the worllllld - The Roaddog Jessie James, The Badass Billy Gunn, The New Age Outlaws

    newageoutlawspromo008.jpg

Who would have thought a feud between Rock-a-Billy and The Real Double J on Shotgun Saturday Night would result in the quintessential tag team of the attitude era. No team in the history of wrestling has made such an impact in such a short space of time.

They will be used predominatly in tag matches, but they will definitly have some entertaining programmes with the main eventers. There is history between Foley and the Outlaws, and I plan for them to cross paths with one another at some stage.

Both have tasted varying degrees of success in their singles careers.

    Outlaws championships/accomplishments:

    Roaddogg:

Roster: Shawn Michaels, Christopher Daniels and introducing…..
Ted DiBiase Jr. & Cody Rhodes
    CodyRhodesTedDibiase.jpg

    “Simply Priceless”

With big boots to fill, Cody Rhodes (second generation) and Ted DiBiase Jr.(third generation) have both shown they can forget about hiding in their father’s shadows and can indeed make a name for themselves. We have only seen the start of them just yet, but they are sure to make the jump to main eventers status in the future. Good in ring ability and great mic work, when given the chance, these two work well as a tag team. I’m delighted that these two talented wrestlers have become part of my roster.

    Titles and Accomplishments:

    Cody Rhodes:

    Ohio Valley Wrestling
    OVW Heavyweight Championship (1 time)
OVW Southern Tag Team Championship (2 times)– with Shawn Spears

    Kenta Kobashi

One of the very best that there's ever been, Kenta Kobashi is one of my all-time favourite wrestlers. He's a big and strong guy who can still pull off great moonsaults and who always tells a compelling story in the ring

I think that the first thing that drew me to Kobashi were his facials. He's pretty much in a league of his own when it comes to portraying emotion, which more often than not is him trying to summon every last bit of strength left in him to overcome the challenge of his opponent

Kobashi debuted in All Japan in the late '80s, going on an over 60 fight losing streak. He began to slowly rise up the card, often competing in tag matches. Sometimes he would play the underdog to his tag partner Misawa, who was the bigger star. Sometimes he would play the protector role when teaming with a smaller partner, like Kikuchi. Either way, he was involved in some classic matches back then. The reaction to Kobashi and Kikuchi winning the All Asia tag titles (I think that's what they were called, I'm doing this on memory) from Furnas and Kroffatt was incredible. It's not often that you see a Japanese crowd screaming and jumping around as much as that for a wrestling match

Kobashi slowly rose up the card in All Japan, having excellent matches along the way, and he eventually won the top title in the promotion in 1996. He left, along with practically all of his colleagues, to join Pro Wrestling NOAH when it was founded in 2000

Kobashi has been the top star in NOAH for most of his time there, although he has missed a significant amount of time due to injury and sickness. He was out for over a year with kidney cancer but made his return at the end of 2007. Since then he's had to have elbow surgery, making his comeback from that last month. He requested that he start back at the bottom of the card and work his way back up to the main event rather than go straight back into the title picture, in keeping with his humble nature

I don't know how many people care that (just for argument's sake) Arn Anderson had one multi-tag team match rated five stars by Dave Meltzer or that Edge was involved in a "worst worked match of the year" (which someone posted in this thread earlier :pac:), but Kobashi has had 23 matches rated five stars by Meltzer (more than that if you were to go by my ratings), he's had six matches of the year as voted on by Wrestling Observer subscribers, and he's also been voted wrestler of the year four times, among other accomplishments

I'm extremely pleased to have Kobashi on my roster. Having met the man and seen him wrestle live, I don't know if I could have picked a nicer or more talented wrestler

There seems to be a reluctance so far to draft the big men of wrestling, they can often be seen as sluggish poor workers who certainly arent likely to go to the top rope, but im going to buck that trend b'cos none of that applies to this man...

Weiging in at 450lb, a former WCW champion, multiple time champ in Japan and master of the moonsault, i give you the Mastadon Big Van Vader

Got a dynamite main event so time to load up with charasmatic mid carders

    Razor Ramon and X-Pac

Have teamed together in 3 different companies but I won't be using them as a team

    wwf%20razor%20ramon.jpg
Considered by many to be the best to never win the title at his peak in 1994 he deserved a small run. Had the best match of the year and one of the best gimmicks of the decade. In later years he needed to be on his day to be great, at his peak he just needed to be sober

    xpac3.jpg
I adored X-Pac when I was a kid. I thought he had it all. The attitude, a unique moveset, charisma but most importantly he was just so cool. Sure X-Pac heat is a now infamous term but it's ridiculously unfair to cast his whole career with that brush. It took a nosedive with the Tori angle but before then it was hot. Not only as X-Pac but as part of the NWO and as the 1-2-3 Kid (who Razor had a great feud with). He even got Shane over as a heel. Think this is the best value pick at this stage

On behalf of Flahavaj, I'm making his pick for him.

The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes and "Bam Bam" Terry Gordy).

    Rebs-freebirds.jpg

My next pick is one I wanted right from the start when I began planninmg my roster. For those who aren't familiar with these guys they were one of the all-time great antagonistic factions. These gjuys nearly caused riots back in the days of the old WCCW with their inflammatory promos and over the top flamboyance.

the figurehead was Michael Hayes, a ridiculously over the top, brilliant talker. A top heel like hayes can only enhance my roster and a great talker like him can carry pretty much any feud.

Terry Gordy is one of the great big men of all time. A brilliant brawler and stiff striker, hes the ideal no nonsense foil for Hayes' excesses. He had several immense matches in All Japan in the 90's as a single or in tags.

Whether its alone or together, these guys put bums on seats, they did massive business down in the Soutrhern states back in the day and have entertained me no end from what I've seen of fotage of them in their prime. Even their theme tune rocked! I'm delighted to be able to use these guys, who could always get a crowd on its feet and booing, an invaluable commodity in building a balanced roster.

Just listen to how good Hayes is on the mic here, chickening out of a match so Gordy can steo in for him, only to engage in typical heelish antics on the ourside. Awesome stuff!

So there you have it, the Freebirds. they don't make 'em like this anymore!

I've opted for one of my favourite tag teams, for those of you unfamiliar with the ECW pairing, let me introduce to you, The Public Enemy. Rocco Rock & Chris Grunge. While making me laugh quite frequently, they were brilliant in the ring and were one of the most feared ECW teams. Unfortunately now both are dead. RIP

              o Other honorees (1995)

    Weeeeeeeelllllllllll...well, it's the Big Show!

    24.jpg

Since my brand is headed by the most electrifing man in sports entertainment - The Rock - I feel that logically I need to build it around him in order to maximise its potential. I was delighted in the previous round to snare one of the greatest natural heels in Jake 'The Snake', and I think I need to add to that with a great big man since The Rock as a babyface was always great at getting people to root for him against impossible odds. That's why I've gone for a guy who Ric Flair feels is the best big man the industry has ever seen. Yes my third round pick is none other than The Big Show!

Big Show has been a great servant to the wrestling industry over the years boasting an unparalleled mix of brute strength, coupled with great charisma and impressive intensity. There have been some great big men over the years but how many of them could battle rap John Cena so hilariously? How many could face Kurt Angle whilst imitating Hulk Hogan and pull it off so brilliantly?

That I feel is what makes Big Show the best big men ever. He can back it up on the mic and also in the ring. He brought instant credibility to whoever he faced and if you beat him, you got a big boost to your career (excuse the pun). I'd argue that The Rock in 2000, Lesnar in 2002 and Cena in 2004 all benefitted massively from their feuds with Show and how well he put them over. He is also very easy to build up as a creditable title challenger due to his physique. In the WWE he just had to return from a long absence and beat the sh*t out of everyone and that was all that was needed to get him over, ie at the Rumble in 2001 or his Smackdown returns in later years.

I also think Show deserves a lot of credit in recent years for his work in ECW. I wasn't happy initially with him getting the ECW title but in hindsight I realise he worked his ass off to help the show and when Lashley got the torch passed to him by Show (another guy he put over) it's clear he lacked the credibility in the role that Show brought.

Here's a good vid showcasing (another pun) his attributes...

And here's one of my favourite moments where Rock mocks Show's new haircut...

It's great to have these two on my show and in Big Show I know I have a guy I can count on, whether as a heel or babyface.

    MNG roster

    Round 1 pick: The Rock
Round 2 pick: Jake 'The Snake' Roberts
Round 3 pick: The Big Show

'It is better to walk alone in the right direction than follow the herd walking in the wrong direction.'
