One problem that the BBC has is with their website - The links on the left hand side of the page need to be expanded and improved so you can go back to earlier stories - there's no headline section for the individual blogs, or video/Audio, or special features. Effectively, all you've got is the front page, and once an item goes off that front page, it's lost.

Coverage and interviews and banter between Eddie and DC, great, and Brundle? Dream team really...but then along comes the new knob to spoil it all...:(
where do I start...his amateurism and canned anxiety and excitement...you can see he comes from radio...someone needs to tell him we CAN see whats happening! after Quali I Switched over to it on Setanta (much better) he made me cringe so much...maybe Ill go back mid-season? - NOT! :P. Then theres his accent, just doesnt do it for me really, sounds like he should be rodgering Victoria out on the Abbey...like Leslie Philips or something, too swarve. Never thought Id say it...bring back JAMES! (but dont cause then he wont do his blog!)

Setanta is for the initiated and BBC/UTV for the uninnitiated (much more driver stats rather than actual race tactical commentary which is what I want to hear about) when they ban refuelling then Ill switch...maybe?

Fire the Noob (pronounced knob too) but who else is there? just watch it on Setanta....actually no dont, cause then there will be lots more commercials
so yeah stick with the Beeb its great..really :pac:

Haven't really formed an opinion on him yet. He doesn't strike me as being either particularly bad or good.

Believe me, I use to SLATE/HATE? James too, but since reading his blog (which is class) Ive come round 180 on my opinion of him. I realised that it wasnt james who was commontating, it was what ITV wanted him to sound like..ie sh1te as you say, yes he was muck on ITV...but because he was commontating for an uninformed audience, you do realise if they only put on F1 for the real followers like us, there would be no Tv coverage dont you?

James is super informed and now without ties to ITV he has 'artistic' licence to show what he knows, and not hide it for to make the racing more interesting (as he did on ITV). Which would you rather a knob (beeb now) or an informed knob ;)

I don't dispute Allen's knowledge of the sport. What I found sickening was his blatant ar$e licking of the Hamiltons. As a commentator he was the most biased, unprofessonial person I've ever heard. He was pathetic. I don't accept "ITV made him do it", at least Brundle remained impartial and still is.

I really don't know what you're getting at when you say Allen hid his knowledge to make the racing more interesting, it doesn't make sense. How does hero worship of Hamilton make the race more interesting? If Allen had taken the time to mention the other 19 drivers on the grid, then that might have made it more appealing.

To be honest I can tolerate Legard because I think Brundle is second to none, and to answer your question, yes, I would rather listen to the "knob" as you call him then suffer that prat James Allen.

Legard was deeply, deeply irritating this week.

If he doesn't stop talking over Brundle I don't know what we're going to do. He's clearly too used to being the "lead" commentator, and he does know his stuff, but the producer needs to reign him in and tell him to share the mike.

Have to agree about legard, I prefer to hear what Brundle has to say anyway

    YES!

He was brutal. I hope BBC aren't trying to shake things up to be different. Brundles grid walk is always a highlight, they should leave well enough alone.

Does anyone get the impression that Eddie Jordan is a bit more aggressive in his comments, kinda reminds me of the soccer panel on RTE :P far better entertainment

    Yeah
and being stupid like saying Sutil was on a hot lap and didnt need to get out of Webbers way

I think Eddie Jordan is brilliant:), never liked Coulthard anyway and as for the soccer panel as least they say what should be said unlike the BBC, goin completely off topic here but apres match do a brilliant impersonation of all the soccer panels on BBC, ITV and RTE its called channel hopping and really makes you think about how good the panel is.

Coulthard nearly had him by the throat after that one!

As a commentator eddie jordan is useless, he's a total waffler,he reminds me of bono or somebody constantly trying to sound enciteful and knowlegable but in reality he really doesnt know jack! Mike Gascoigne on the other hand was exceptionally clued in to the goings on in the race the other week however.

eddie jordan is a twat he always was!!! was never a fan of coulthard but ive a new found respect for the guy for putting up with e.j. but it would still be great if the bbc got rid of both of them and just had gascoyne.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,091 ✭✭✭Biro

BBC coverage is absolutely brilliant, with one major flaw. Eddie Jordan needs to go. His interviews are embarrasingly uncomfortable to watch, and he comes out with off the wall statements that Coulthard has to correct him on. Any time Coulthard has said "I don't agree with Eddie on that..." it turned out that Eddie was indeed wrong.

Never going to happen Gascoyne is looking to get a job at Ferrari or some other team.

oh i know we will prob be stuck with the 2 guys, and gascoyne has no desire for a fulltime tv job. but i can dream shur!

The problem with having a guy like Gascoyne on the show is that it provides great insight but also reminds you that F1 is 90% a technical exercise and that takes a lot of the fun out of it, not least for those who like to pretend drivers are important.

I like the Jordan/Coulthard/Humphrey team, some random off the wall statements from Jordan are amusing, and the "chemistry" between him and DC is a good example of how F1 really is - bickering, contradictions, arm-flailing wild exaggeration, concealed disdain, the whole lot.

    As SM57B said:

But, that's what a lot of people don't even realise.
