Pope claims that condoms could make the African aids crisis worse

The Pope put his foot in it once again when he stated that condoms were not the answer to the continent's fight against HIV and Aids and could only make the problem worse.

Benedict XVI made his comments as he flew to Cameroon for the first leg of a six-day trip that will also see him travelling to Angola.

The timing of his remarks outraged health agencies trying to halt the spread of HIV and Aids in sub-Saharan Africa, where an estimated 22 million people are infected.

This muppet has been recorded as saying this by a number of sources as he continues his African tour.
It amazes me how people are still respecting this (and previous out of date) pig ignorant idiots such as these and the Org' they run.
    I mean WTF!!!
Just how stupid can you get? Complete and utter moran. This plank shouldn't be running a single church never mind a world religious organisation.
    What a complete frakin' tool!

...and people still look up to these idiots! That amazes me completely.

Well, he's correct insofar as promoting not riding all around you is a far better way to stop the spread of aids than promoting johnnies

There was one priest (a few years ago) in Brazil that actually said publically they did good - but the uneducated nuts in Rome quickly shut him up with threats.

Every time an african couple rut away in the sun for want of anything better to do that's another potential catholic in the world.

If they used protection then they might evolve into something that didn't need 15 catholic kids or even need religion! Emperor Popeitine can't be having that!

Aye, in a dream world where humans could successfully suppress their biological urges - but if even their own priests can't do this - who the frak are they to tell others to abstain from sex!

Complete tools, one after another now runs that org' in Rome.

so he has pissed off the Jews by bringing a holocaust denyer back into the fold, he has pissed off non Catholic christians by telling them their's is not a "Proper" religion and he has pissed off the Muslims by saying Mohammed had only brought the world evil.

in fairness to the guy, he is fast catching up with the Duke of Edinburgh as the worlds biggest foot in mouth expert.

To be honest, I think they are getting as wacky as the scientology nuts.
I now put both org's on the same mental level.

Ah c'mon now the catholic church has a good 2000 years more craziness then scientology, when they have their own crusades you can give them that accolade ;)

Holy flip! The Pope is a Catholic who thinks people should only have sex if they are in a faithful marriage. What a prick he is. I'm off to call the lads in the golf club retarded for wanting to hit the ball with their golf-bat instead of kicking it like all the cool people.

course condoms can make aids worse over there. Millions of them chipping in for a four pack of johnnys between them. The water is bad over there so they cant wash them between uses.

So far as I can remember, there is not one word in the Gospels in praise of intelligence.

"Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed."

    -Proverbs 3:13-18

"Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her."

    -Proverbs 8:10-11

"A simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thought to his steps."

    -Proverbs 14:15

"Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife."

    -Proverbs 17:1

"A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions."

    -Proverbs 18:2

Don't mix the teachings of the Catholic church up with the teaching of the Gospel...

My personal opinion is the same as yours with regards to religion. The word religion actually means 'regarding laws' but most of us will naturally rebel against this. This is why I too, albeit a Christian, hate organised religion.

    You do realise...
    *gasp, shock horror*
... that there are quite a lot of other religions out there that aren't catholic and don't share these beliefs at all?

The original question put to you, asking why the pope's teachings have anything to do with you being atheist, is quite a valid one, because while those teachings might have put you off catholicism, they have no bearing on the question of theism in general or the teachings of the multitudes of different religions.

I wonder did many of the pedo priests think of using condoms when they decided to fcuk up their victims lives? It's no wonder I don't go to church so much now.

May be it's a bit of both.

Problem is that contraception is a Catholic rule so whether or not he agrees with it, he still has to follow the church's teachings.
I'm not too sure if the Pope has the power to change this law or not as I imagine it would be undermining the 'infallibility' of whatever Pope made the rule in the first place. If that Pope's ruling isn't so perfect then neither would the current Pope's (or any others) ruling be.

Of course that's only my opinion as I don't know much about Canon law.

He decided that "limbo" didn't exist so hundreds of years of scaring people into having their chidren baptised ended, so why can' he decide contraception isn't wrong. Hey, I've got an idea, let's start up our own form of catholicism (with a small c) in protest at the Popes over interfering rules. Now then, what should we call a church set up as a protest?

so he has pissed off the Jews by bringing a holocaust denyer back into the fold, .

That holocaust denyer is bishop Richard Willaimson, who is a bit of questionable fellow as well, but i had to laugh at one of his views on women
"A woman can do a good imitation of handling ideas, but then she will not be thinking properly as a woman. Did this lawyeress check her hairdo before coming into court? If she did, she is a distracted lawyer. If she did not, she is one distorted woman."

Well this just further strenghtens my views
i might be offending people here but you want an answer so here it is
(Not my words but i wish they were)

"Perhaps it's the shameless hypocrisy , The Arrogant Self-Righteousness , The willful Ignorance , or the cynical indoctrination of young minds with prejudice and hate,
I do know that with half a chance religion would like to control every aspect of my life, if i want it to or not,
And would impose a morality on me , what to think , what to believe , and who to attack and kill for believing something else.
Thus religion is the natural home of the physcopath "

I'm happy the way i live my life , I'm happy with the decisions I make , I do not force my beliefs unto others and such expect others to respect mine.
The popes teachings are just another drop in the sea of reasons I have , it just further solidifies my beliefs that its all shameless exploitation of peoples emotions , feelings and vunerablilties.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,580 ✭✭✭Splendour

Apparantly Limbo wasn't actually a church ruling but more of a teaching to qualm parents fears of where their unbaptised babies went. Limbo wasn't Heaven but not a bad place to be either. So he supposedly didn't change a rule as there wasn't one to change.

Fratton d'ya this idea of yours would catch on? Maybe you should change your user name to Martin ;)

If anyone is having some religious viewpoint forced upon them, I would consider that to be cult like.
These people have a choice, they can turn away from the Catholic church if they wish, or like so many others, they can be 'a la carte' Catholics. How many so called Irish 'Catholics' use contraception? I personally don't agree with this, but it is an option.

The only way the pope could be right on this issue is if they are using catholic condoms, you know the ones with a hole at both ends!

Look the fact that religion has any bearing over my life when I do not want it to be is reason enough , Religious wars in the middle east driving up the cost of petrol , the absurd teachings of creationism harrasing me at my doorstep , The hampering of Science (stem cell research) by the bigoted opinions of religious teachings , The denial of choice by a few ( abortions) to all without personal choice.
Imo it's the cancer which has the power to kill the human species.
