What channel are you watching?! Most of the ones i've been watching ended in the first round!
Or did i miss the sarcasm?

And what drugs was Sell on earlier? I know Brown was well on form, but Sell looked like sh*t.

Thought the :pac: would convey the sarcasm. I missed the first fight on the main card which apparently did go to a decision.

Oh my god, they're letting Lavigne ref the main event after the atrocity of a job he did on the Sell/Brown fight earlier?!

Jackson and evans post fight in the ring made me want to puke.

It's like a new feud starting in wwe or something

How long have you been watching MMA calex71?

Anyways fanastic show given I wasnt really too jazzed about it going into it

An incredibly gutsy performance by Jardine

I expected better from Lavigne in the Sell/Brown

    Carwin is a monster.

Thank goodness Munoz was able to walk out of the cage.

The build up to Jackson vs Evans if tonight was any indication will be fantastic

One thing that annoyed me about the show was Kendall Grove doing the grave digging action after his fight never liked that gesture in particular.

Lol been watching a long time, just hate the whole winner and next in line stare down etc post fight they throw in sometimes to build a fight up, this to me came across as very staged and scripted almost hence the wwe comment :pac:

Its also a reason why i usually wont watch the weigh in's either

Well I can tell you Rashad has hated Rampage legitimately for a long while now. Just notice to the change in his demeanour when Rashad went face to face.

Post fight interviews/staredowns is what sells future fights staged, semi staged or not. The live crowd were going crazy for it. I’m sick of people crying that all of a sudden that OMG! UFC is turning into WWE. Im sure Tank Abbot is rolling over in his grave at this. :P

Until they stumble upon a more effective alternative to replace it this is here to stay. I dont need to point out that you are entitled to your opinion.

Anyway this posturing comes more from boxing than WWE. WWE wishes they could execute something like this.

As long as Rampage doesnt run off with Rashad's wife, and in the next fight she intervenes to cost her ex-husband a win and then we get a 2 on 1 handicap match with Rampage and Dana White against Rashad but Rashad somehow wins with the help of Chuck Liddel who brings a beer truck to the octagon and drenches Dana in beer while Tito Ortiz suplex's him through a table and everything explodes and goes on fire...

I think we will be ok.

Lets just hope they never get into financial difficulty and get bought out by Vince then :P

I personally love a nice build-up to a match like that. I hate it when two "friends" fight, normally leads to a boring match.

All in all, excellent event. Really action-packed with loads of nice knockouts. The sell/brown fight...ouch!

I'm guessing hamill got knockout of the night though. Anyone got any info on the fighter pay yet?

personally was in stitches at rampage giving rashad lip. couldnt understand a thing from rashad though.
Shortest UFC main card i can remember in a long time, even the prelims were quick. must've set the record for most amount of finishes in the first round

    That is irrelevant.

IMO Rashad came out looking very bad. Rampage was hyping the fight, and Rashad started into the whole "I'll give you the first punch" nonsense. If he did that he'd go asleep I'm pretty sure.

Rampage was impressive last night, he's evolving at the Wolfslair. He has started to shoot again, throwing kicks and moving backwards out of kicking range. I was impressed even if it means he fights at a slower pace.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 325 ✭✭Derek Coleman

I think Rashad just kept sayin "I'm gonna knock you the fuk out" then said something like "I'll give you the first punch". That exchange was gas. I cant wait for it.

I'm telling you now that Rashad has the beating of Quinton. I'm picking Rashad.

I didnt think so at time anyway calex71 and myself have talked it out and at least know where the other is coming from. Ive been asked the exact same question on here before.

Good show. The one fight they didn't show apparently had a ridiculously early stoppage. The same ref did the Grove fight, the crowd were chanting at him before the fight

I read on some site that Rampage did a radio interview where he said that he didn't know he'd have to fight again so soon and that he'd prefer not to. I think he'll have to go with it now that they did the post-match deal. I'd still rather see Machida get the shot, but I understand why they'd want Rampage

This video blog is pretty interesting to say the least given what went down last night:

Yeah that stoppage was ment to be terrible, Dana seemed pretty pissed with it aswell as the Brown/Sell stoppage in his blog. You can see in his blog after the fight is the first time Rampage finds out about the fight being in May, he doesnt seem to pleased with it.

Dave Meltzer who covered this live and well as a great of ones going back to the early years of UFC said that many officals and journalists were in uniform agreement that it was the worst early stopage ever.

I think given the circumstances it was pretty ****ty for Dana to ask Rampage on camera and in front of load of people. Three fights in five months is a bit OTT in this day and age. The fight shuffling was handled pretty bad as even Brock didnt know the fight had changed until like late Friday.

Good night of fights alright didnt expect Gonzaga to go out in the first round like that. Glad to see Rampage win the man is brilliant entertainment in & outside the octogon & seems to be great craic. Not much time for him alright if he has to fight Rashad in May. Machida should have been the next in line to fight Rashad anyway with Rampage taking on the winner.
Bad night for the refs alright was it Yve Lavine who messed up the Mat Brown fight? What was the name of the ref who called the Aaron Riley fight to early?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,126 ✭✭✭✭calex71

havent been keeping up with the rankings etc in this division, but jardine v griffen II ? I know forest is this on the injury list but this surely must be a possibility depending on how soon he's back and definitely one id love to see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,336 ✭✭✭Dave Joyce

was it Yve Lavine who messed up the Mat Brown fight?

Talk about messing it up, seemed like he didn't know what he was doing. Although Sell went down initially from a flash KO, it warranted a stoppage, BUT to intervene between the two fighters and stop them and THEN to wave it back on again was bullshet!! Just before he stopped it finally, Sell was so outta it, he fell on his ass. Man, THAT was some crap reffing.

Impressed with Matt Brown and Matt Hamill.

Although it was a good punch from Carwin, I'm beginning to think Gonzaga has a glass jaw.

total shambles there alright , guy got how may extra hits thanks to the ref?, who is supposed to be there to protect you from unnecessary damage
my god if it was pride rules he'd have his head literally danced on by the time it was stopped

First thing i thought when i saw that. Must have gone to the Steve Mazzagatti school of refereeing! :pac:

I always thought highly of Yves Livigne as a ref, but that was one almighty ****up.

I wonder did the controversy over the earlier stoppage play a part, i.e. maybe the ref getting a lot of stick for an early stoppage caused him to second guess himself. Even so, once he pulled the fighters apart it's definitely too late to change your mind!

Jacksons post match interview was one of the highlights of the night....although I didn't see the full card.

And his stare down with Evans was great. I dislike Evans', in interviews he comes across ok but his attitude in the octogon is wrong. And from his commentary last night it seems that he is none to happy with facing Rampage. And the way he looked when they were face to face pretty much confirmed it.

I think when Rampage wins the title back last night will be something that really helped him do it. It's gotten him inside Evans' head and intimidated him a little..

Also though Brandon Vera looked good last night, but the guy seems to blow hot and cold hopefully he can put on a few performances like that against big names.

Rampage and Rashads verbal exchange was great television and has succeded in hyping a fight that needed hyping.

Yves lavine was a bit silly but his intentions were good. Premature stoppages suck and he was just trying to bring the fight to a conclusive end. He did however act inappropiately by stopping the fight and restarting it.

Carwin looked rocked and was getting handled up to the point of the knockout. He's got serious power though. Id like to see him and de santos next.

Id really like to see Rampage push the pace more in his fights and just brawl a bit. He's got a good chin and great boxing technique, but he needs to throw more. 5 and 7 instead of 2 and 3 combos. Back to that bully brawling style, like in the first chuck fight.

    Slight TUF spoiler here,
Mazzagatti calls what may be the worst late stoppage ever in UFC in the upcoming season, according to some reports. Dana referred to it at the post show press conference on Saturday

It's been a bad year for refs so far

Yeah Dave Meltzer has cited that numerous times. I really wonder how UFC & Dana will treat/edit it.

Late stoppage as in someone took a few too many shots before it was called?
I think thats even worse than an early stoppage. Fighter safety should be number 1 priority.

The way it was described the ref pretty much put the fighters life in danger. It went beyond a late call.

Late stoppages are WAY worse than early ones. Pete Sell was left in that fight about 30 seconds too long. He mounted NO offence and basically got the shit kicked out of him for a minute and a half.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,441 ✭✭✭Killme00

I only got around to watching this last night.

Brandon Vera looked good BUT he was fighting someone who was unfit, overweight and overmatched. Veras kicks looked great, how he would do against one of the better guys i just dont know.

Matt Hammill looked enormous. Stick him in against Vera next pls.

Shane Carwin, nice KO but from the way he drops his hands he would get murdered by most of the better guys. 11-0 now though and still improving, tougher tests to come though.

Brown vs Sell, FFS ref what are you at!! Making a mistake is bad but compounding it by allowing Sell to continue when he was obviously out on his feet was worse.

Rampage vs Jardine. Rampage is a better fighter now, it must be down to where he is training and where his head is. I loved his shoot in Rnd 2. Jardine summed up this event for me, a tryer but a loser nonetheless.

Rampage vs Evans will be a good fight, i didnt realise how big Evans actually was until they squared up. No doubts in my mind that Evans will win by UD after five rounds of standup and i am willing to bet that it doesnt hit the ground once.

His cornermen should take some of the blame too, they could have thrown the towel in at any point.

True and I appreciate that point 100% but ultimately it's the refs responsibility not to wait until his friends decide he's defo not gonna come back into it, but instead to make a call. Pete Sell was punch drunk even during the interviews after.

Not strictly true as that depends of the rules of the State. Throwing the towel in isnt recognised as a legal/permissable move by some States.

Neill has a very good point in the above post.

My understanding is that if throwing a towel in was legal/permissable, then it wouldn't end the fight.

As the ref wouldnt have noticed it like with gum shield falling out :pac:
