Price for VW service?

Folks - was asked for E380 the other day for a service in a large well-known VW dealer for my 07 Golf. E200 for labour, E140 for various bits and pieces - wiper blades, oil, enviro charge etc + VAT.

Does this seem like robbery or is it the standard price to get that sought after dealer stamp?

    Cheers,
    Tom

Depends for the work done...... For a simple oil change (wipers you can do your self) it seems expensive.

Go to your local non branded garage expect to save some euros

Have you rung around a selection of garages for prices?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,795 ✭✭✭Neilw

Blackwater motors are do an all in price of 99euro's for a service, so yes your service sounds very expensive.

    That's only for 99-04 cars.

Doh, still cheap all the same ;)

I would have thought that's standard for a Dublin main dealer and a little expensive for a non-Dublin main dealer.
Going non-franchise would be cheaper again.

Blackwater have dropped their prices!!! €690 they quoted me 6 months ago for a Timing belt for a 99 Passat TDi, and €225 for a service.

It depends on which service and if it's petrol or diesel - sheehy motors (Naas & Carlow) have a price list on their web site - http://www.sheehymotors.ie/contentv3/index.cfm?fuseaction=page&pageID=15605

    * This includes the standard service, but not wiper blades etc

As others have said non-franchised garages would be cheaper.

Did you not read that post at all? It quite clearly says €200 for labour and €140 for parts + VAT.

You see, this is the problem with the trade (sometimes anyway). he just asked to get a full breakdown - meaning a price per item and how many hours were spent on the car. The OP said "for bits and pieces" and E200 for labour.
Just because you are in the trade and understand fully where the costs come from, does not mean that Johnny Blogg does.
All he asked for was a more detailed bill from the OP and you come out with the staement above.

Anyway, that was a high bill IMO.

Yes I would like exact parts and hourly labour quote please. I am mechanic too.

Thanks mate, Drummerboy seems to have nothing better to do than to follow my posts with stupid quotes and faces. I don't know what his problem is. Maybe I pissed him off previously.

i have an 08 Golf Tsi and paid €360 for the 1st service last Sept. was thinking of going to Newry for the next service anyone done this?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 198 ✭✭Healyc

Price seems about norm for a service on a VW.

A couple of things have to be determined here before we go jumping down the throat of the dealership.

    Which service was it?
Hope a longlife one at the price which means its filled with 5w40 (i think) and did it get plugs, fuel filter, pollen .......

    How much were the wipers?
AFAIK they are dear enough genuine as there Aero blades

Most Garages especially VW ones have fixed pricing now for service work!

Maybe bring it to a SEAT garage?
    Might be chaeper
    Off topic.
    I have a 08 SEAT Cordoba 1.4TDiS.
9.8k on the clock but the onboard system is telling me it needs a service ( 15k or 1 year)
is it vital to get it done after a year ??

For a 1 year old car if you don't keep to the recommended service intervals you will invalidate your warrenty and resale values will suffer. Most people recommend an oil change every 12 months regardless of mileage.

Not trying to go OT here, but is the service interval on a TSi Golf not 30,000kms?

    Jesus they robbed you.

It should be 20 minutes to change the oil and filters, 2 minutes for each wiper, 2 minutes for the washer fluid and €5 for water, what were the various of €15 for?

What is their labour charge per hour?
What else did they do, eg. brake check, suspension check?
3 litres of oil doesn't sound right!

Thats what I thought when I bought it but the service warning light came on before 15k

Do you have any idea of what is involved in doing this service as per the service schedule?
If yes, then you probably would not be asking, if no. then how can you comment on the labour content?

I have one or two GT TSi golfs on fleet and according to a both a VW dealer and VW themselves, its thirty thousand.

Take a look at the audi long life service thread, it should be more or less the same as this case.

The labour figure is there to be seen along with the parts costs. You even quoted it in your reply.

You commented that the poster was “robbed”. Based on what?

You are not waiting for a labour figure, you just dont want to answer the question. Wonder why?

I have an 07 140 TSi DSG and I got quoted €400 + for a second service from an independent dealer. I'm getting it done in a Volkswagen garage in Newry for £160

I do my own oil and filter servicing last time i did it was in November 2008. The parts for a 2003 1.9tdi 130bhp Passat from the Main VW Dealer broke down as follows:

75euro for 5 litres of 5w30 Helix Ultra Fully Synthetic (VW spec 507.00) - Extended interval oil 20,000mls
Paper Oil filter - 9euro odd
    Air Filter - 22 euro
Pollen Filter - think it was about 15euro
Sump Plug - 1euro (VW recommend that you change it after each oil service)

Obviously labour was for free only some of my time :-)

    my 1st service on a 07 GTI was 180e the 2nd service was 210e in Ennis .
    Thought that was good value

I think while there are wildly differing quotes for the same items fixed etc, the term "service" does not cover the description of what is actually done. I can "service" a car for a fiver. But what I would do or replace would not be the same as the manufacturers recommendation.

I will shop around in a month or two for the best quote for an official service as per the maintenance manual for my car.

Just to update you on the service I got done last Saturday in a Volkswagen garage in Newry.

Car: 07 Golf 140 TSi DSG
    2nd Service:
Longlife Oil change [balance of oil left in the boot]
    Pollen Filter change
    Oil Filter change
    Air filter change
    and the usual sundries
Updated computer software [a recall that I was unawre of]

    Price: £170 in total

They dropped me into Newry and picked me up when the car was ready. I also priced a Passat CC 2.0 Diesel GT spec, delivered to my door for €30,000 which included VAT and VRT and that was based on their list price with no discount.

I would highly recommend using this garage, very friendly and fastastic service.
