But did you not know that by declaring it as a '' Vintage '' or '' Classic '' you can command any price you want :p

Performance wise, the cars he's looking to trade with are on par with the Mini. VTEC Minis are few and far between in this country. To get the conversion subframe landed here from England is almost €1500, and that's before you even source a donor engine or touch upon driveshafts, looms, running gear, etc. When you add up what it would cost you, it's not far off the price of the Mini for sale. Add to that it has €48 a year for tax and is NCT exempt for something that could be taken to the track and driven home afterwards. Having seen and heard this Mini and other VTEC conversions in the flesh, it's something that has to be seen to be believed :)

Compared to a true dreamer like this guy (I've seen taxis with lower mileage), it's a pretty sweet deal.

I would knock 10k off at least. There's a fair amount of work been done on it in fairness reading the description. If I was a serious buyer, I would be checking every inch of it, sills, arches, floor pan for any evidence of rust. It would really want to be as good as it looks in the pics.

A mate of mine bought one fully restored, to an even better finish than the one in them pics and all he paid was €3500.

What? 194,000km isnt ridiculous...its only 110k miles or so? 5K isnt out of the ballpark for an Altezza?

Re previous post on the virtues of a VTEC Mini Vs an Altezza...

The Vtec Mini will strip your skin off (trust me on this one...) but its not something you'd really bring the Mother shopping in...

    An unfair comparison perhaps?

As an aside, mini's have been around with VTEC power outputs for years but the weakness has been the mini transmission, there seems to be a limit at 145 bhp after that you'd end up with a bust box.

All kinds of people have claimed to have surpassed this problem, strange that the wo't gaurantee their work...

You'd hardly bring the mother shopping in a Tezza with a LSD either :pac: There are some sleeper VTEC conversions, there's a lad on the English mini forum that's putting together a B20 bottom end with a B18 VTEC top end, going into a standard 80's roundnose, complete with original 12" steelies and hubcaps. He's claiming about 230 bhp conservatively, madness.

There are 1380 turbos that claim up to 250 bhp that come up for sale on eBay every now and then. As you say, anything over 150 bhp is trouble, sure even the Metro turbo was known to shred gearbox bearings, hence why the ERA had a "turbo ECU" to dial down torque below ~3500 RPM.

On topic, why not have a '01 felted A4 for 5 grand? http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2604532
