What I love is the "text only" line

Cos anyone about to drop €18k on a car is going to do so through text

It guess it's more a 'look at my car' thing than an ad. Talking up the value.

    Nail on the head here.

It's a fairly new phenomenon this "Just testing the water" notion, essentially it's just another way of showcasing the car. Although you would think that Facebook, Insta & Snapchat would suffice.

Also if your going to "show off" you would think they would use decent photos and perhaps a level of English that doesn't make you look like an idiot.

Yeah but the kind of people who look at that ad and think "aw yeah thats class that lad must be minted" are also idiots

"not 1 bit pushed on selling" - Why stick the ad up on Donedeal then? It was a struggle to read that far down. I need to rest now.

It's more a showcase of how we rebuilt the body ;)

    €6-8k would be realistic.

Booters aren't nearly as desirable as hatches. A clean booter would struggle to make €9-10k and that's the worst example of Jap done UK that the world has ever seen.

    Why's it called a booter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,704 ✭✭✭Cheensbo

    Why's it called a booster?

    It ain't.

It's called a booter, as it's got a boot, not a hatch, if ya follow.

    Yea, sorry. Autocorrected to booster!

They're UK spec seats right? Did the booted get sold in the UK?
If you're gonna sell an AE86 for €18,000 it would want to be Pebble Beach levels of original.
No roll cage, no miss match parts and no ****ing rebuild, diffed to bits bodies.

That's exactly it. Cibies on a Jap yoke is the definition of wrong.

Would be an interesting press car for them to show how far they've come. There can't be many Irish ones left.
The cousin had one she bought new for 8 years, passed it on to her brother who kept it longer than that. No problems with it to be fair.

Did Hyundai sell any earlier cars here or was that it's first endeavor?

91d10349 is an earlier Irish one anyway.

The stellar and the pony were the earliest IIRC, around 1988 or so. There was the S-Coupe too a few years later.

The Stellar was interesting in that it was loosely based on the last gen Ford Cortina and had Mitsubushi running gear. As did the pony, which is funny given that Mitsubishis small car was the Colt.

I bought a 90 reg Kadette in 94 for 6.5k,so they were definitely more than that.
    Im guessing nearer 12k

So they left what was probably already used oil sitting in a car for over half a decade, then just started it? Lol...

Back 20 odd years ago I remember a certain breed of people driving round in a 1991 Hyundai Pony.....................

We sold Hyundai cars in the late 80s early 90s. Before my time but must have sold a few :pac:

Love the description. How the photos show how well it's been looked after, then uploads two pictures.
Knock off 3000e and he'd have a chance at selling.

Just shows how much more affordable (and infinitely superior) cars have become. I'd imagine you could easily get into a brand new (and excellent) new Astra for under €20k, far below inflation and adjusted for today's income levels.

I remember seeing a far few Pony's and Stellars about all the same. They went big on the Mitsubishi link. Ironic really when you think now Hyundai are many times bigger and more successful than their old masters.
The Mitsubishi brand really missed a trick through under investment, they had quite a good name here in the early 90s. The likes of the Colt and the Galant were seen as "cut above" class leaders back then.

From memory, Hyundai sales tailed off here a good bit till the original accent and Lantra came on stream. The Pony was badged the x2 in the uk, fella near us used to import a good few of them in the late 90s.

Yes, about 95/96 they took off again with the new rounder and more modern Accents and Lantra. They hadn't a diesel for years which was a bit of minus, especially in the larger Lantra. Fair few Accents sold through the original scrappage scheme I'd say.
