It's a fairly new phenomenon this "Just testing the water" notion, essentially it's just another way of showcasing the car. Although you would think that Facebook, Insta & Snapchat would suffice.

Would be an interesting press car for them to show how far they've come. There can't be many Irish ones left.
The cousin had one she bought new for 8 years, passed it on to her brother who kept it longer than that. No problems with it to be fair.

The stellar and the pony were the earliest IIRC, around 1988 or so. There was the S-Coupe too a few years later.

The Stellar was interesting in that it was loosely based on the last gen Ford Cortina and had Mitsubushi running gear. As did the pony, which is funny given that Mitsubishis small car was the Colt.

Just shows how much more affordable (and infinitely superior) cars have become. I'd imagine you could easily get into a brand new (and excellent) new Astra for under €20k, far below inflation and adjusted for today's income levels.

I remember seeing a far few Pony's and Stellars about all the same. They went big on the Mitsubishi link. Ironic really when you think now Hyundai are many times bigger and more successful than their old masters.
The Mitsubishi brand really missed a trick through under investment, they had quite a good name here in the early 90s. The likes of the Colt and the Galant were seen as "cut above" class leaders back then.

From memory, Hyundai sales tailed off here a good bit till the original accent and Lantra came on stream. The Pony was badged the x2 in the uk, fella near us used to import a good few of them in the late 90s.

Yes, about 95/96 they took off again with the new rounder and more modern Accents and Lantra. They hadn't a diesel for years which was a bit of minus, especially in the larger Lantra. Fair few Accents sold through the original scrappage scheme I'd say.
