    Hi all,

My car was stolen recently so I am having to walk and use public transport these days! (oh the shame of it all) ;)

Anyway, I know you can get a bus from Drumcondra to DCU but I was wondering how long it would take to walk it?

    Thanks in advance!

Well thats not so bad at all, I think I can manage that!

20 - 30 minutes, on a more pessimistic note. Cycling might be better, but you'll have to wait at traffic lights for ages, but if you find a better route, it might be very quick.

Dont do it. Its ages away. Get the 11 or the 13A outside the station. Its like one euro five.

Do they stop right outside the college?

    Yep.

Take the bus, it's a longer walk than you think. I'd be surprised if you could walk it at a normal pace in under half an hour.

    It's 1.60.

Did the whole train/bus commute for the first time there last week, cost me 7.60 for the return trip, and took an hour and a half. Back to teh car I goes :)

DTO Journey Planner says it takes 30mins... So, if you're actually a quick walker then it could be done sightly under that. But remember it's a bit up hill to DCU.

    Journey Planner results...

Something public transport users have in common with car users, they think everything is "ages away." Dublin is a small city. It's about 3km, which is under 2miles ffs. When I was young.... :)

It's three stages, so it's €1.15 (used to be €1.05).

According to DublinBus.ie: "The number of stages travelled is calculated by deducting the boarding stage number from the alighting stage number"

Well guys I walked it in the end! I stepped onto a couple buses outside the station 16 and 3 and they both told me I was told by dude on 16 to get the 3 and on the 3 to get the 16!

So I gave up and decided to walk! It took 30 mins approx! I probably would have done it quicker only that I had a full tummy! :)

The 3 drops you on Collins avenue to right right of DCU, about a five minute walk away. The 16 can drop you at the Swords road / Collins avenue junction (outside the Airport takeaway) or on Shanard road to the north of DCU. It meanders around Beaumont before it heads left to DCU though so the first stop is usually much faster.

Walked back to DCU from Croker on wednesday night after the match, took about 30 minutes, however i was walking at a fairly fast pace.

I assume you get off before the petrol station and walk the rest of the way? ;)

As I quoted above from dublinbus.ie: "The number of stages travelled is calculated by deducting the boarding stage number from the alighting stage number."

    For example, on the 11a:

19 81 Ballymun Rd. (The Rise)
20 80 Home Farm Rd. (Ferguson Rd.)
21 79 Drumcondra Rd. Upr. (Clonturk Park)
    22 78 Drumcondra Rail Station

For you to travel another stage you'd have to go to Wadelai Park on the 11a, or, on other buses, as far as where the Ballymun Road meets Glasnevin Ave.

I don't always look but I can only ever remember getting "the Rise" printed on my ticket when I ask for DCU when I paying the cash fare.
I'd say around 57 minutes...with the roads and all

The OP (opening poster) has already said s/he made it in 30mins and may be able to do it in less. And, in the first place you can not really think it would take nearly an hour to walk 3km / under 2miles?

The Rise (as I noticed while walking to Phibsborough!) is a road on the other side of Albert College Park... You're forgetting that you pay till the next stop.

I live in santry and would walk to drumcondra fairly often, I'd say around 30 minutes would be about right

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

No, you pay extra when you get to the next stage, not between the next stage points (unless there are no stops between stage points, which is not the case). That'd mad even for DB.

As I've already said when asking for DCU I've always got "the Rise" printed on the ticket.

listen it's 1.60, as bus drivers have told me. If you read the fare rules it says that you pay to the subsequent stage when in between stops

I wouldn't beleive you just because you say a bus driver told you. They are often wrong or disinterested. Often they don't update the stage thing either. This thread is also stupid.

You're right, when looking yesterday, I missed this on the fare page on dublinbus.ie:

Passengers boarding between stage points pay the appropriate fare from the preceding stage point. Passengers alighting between stage points pay the appropriate fare to the next stage point.

But in my defence other *bus drivers* have been issuing me with tickets saying "the Rise" when I have asked for DCU.

Why would you pay an extra €0.45 for 1 stop. Pay €1.15, get off at the stop after the petrol station. Simple!;)

And yeah, it'll take round and about 30 minutes to walk.

Anytime I've ever gone from DCU to Drumcondra Station it's been €1.05 / €1.15. The most recent trek was on Thursday - anyone getting charged €1.60 is being rightly screwed!

Option A) Wait ages for one of the elevens or a 13A
Option B) Hope they haven't shelved the Metro :p and use that, if they ever get around to building it

I think that 30 minutes from Drumcondra station to DCU is quite fast walking. It is an uphill walk for the most part as well - certainly all the way up to Collins Avenue.

Leaving aside the distance and knowing the route, I would not expect to do that in 30 minutes to be honest, but obviously people's natural walking speed varies which makes discussions like this difficult.

It'd also be a long long walk on a wet morning, though there should be plenty of buses from right outside the station between the No 16s, No 3s or even any of the No 41 options which would take someone to Collins Avenue.
