Random Carlow Photograph Thread

Welcome to the random photo thread for county carlow. I hope all you Happy Snappers out there in carlow fill this thread with lovely flamboyant photographs of our beloved county. I suppose I'll kick it off with one of my local area which would be myshall/mount leinster. hope you enjoy.happy snapping.

Ok so in light of some oversized pictures we need to have a cap on the size of photo you can post.

keep this a photo thread not a conversational thread, commenting on photographs is fine.

    * All images must be 800 pixels or less on the longest side.

Lads if you wish to be able to post photographs instead of attachments i'd recommend using a photography hosting site such as www.pix.ie. It is a wonderful hosting site for all your photo's it is free and extremely easy to use.

Also the guy who owns it corresponds with the users of the photography forum here on boards and as a result when you view your photo's you can select different sizes to view them and below them you see a little box with the forum code to insert your photo's onto boards.ie so all you need to do is copy and paste.

Trust me it's the best way to go.That or flicker, although pix.ie is more intuitive and is irish also.

How to embed the photo's if using pix.ie (recommended)
set up a pix.ie account, upload photographs and then view your photos in a size of less than 800x800(you'll see the sizes on the top of the screen) and then on the bottom of the screen you will see two boxes one saying forum code or something like that and simply copy and paste that code here.

I wish my pictures would come out as nice as all of the above. I know this thread is for photographs only and I do apologise but I just have to commence on the ecellent photographs.
    Well done.
Maybe one could get some advice on the proper use of a camera here?

Dont know if there is such a thing as 'proper use' Jim, just a matter of seeing something that you like, or think would work well as a pic and snapping it ;). Getting proportions right and having horizons or buildings etc horizontal helps too.

    Another few ;)

Taken just after the floods last year (the year on the photo is wrong) when the Barrow rose and the swans were able to get over the wall. It was a little worrying to see swans walking around the road.

Great pic, looks really good , where was this taken from I'm guessing looking north east towards Mt Leinster?

It was taken North West of Mt Leinster (the mast), i.e. out the Bagenalstown direction.
So when I was taking the picture I was facing South East.

just a wild guess but i think that pink building was public toilets at one stage and the ruins are down the barrow track past the graveyard

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 176 ✭✭elyod

I took these this evening. Some views of, and off of, Mt. Leinster.

EDIT: Just noticed the Photoshop didn't merge the image as intended in the 2nd panoramic.
For the less computer literate, don't forget to zoom fully into the pictures if your browser is resizing them to fit the screen.

First a photo of the swans in the Barrow, then some photos of the way the riverbank is treated when people are fishing. I have better photos of the swans, but I wanted to show the contrast in these photos that were taken on the same day, in the same part of the river Barrow.
