    4.9 Turbo was 80 & 81 only IIRC.

    It's the type of van I'd love without the graphics.

    1980 reg on this car...........so must have been imported back then if it is as reported a 1977 car!

    needs a lot of TLC by the looks of it!

    coz the whole car is boring... it looks like s#*t, the engine is ridiculous and just because it's from 1981 it doesn't mean that the car is interesting.. waste of petrol and money.

    For real dude?

    It's a clean looking MkIII for small money and looking by what else is in the driveway the owner is an enthusiast. Only thing I could see wrong with it is possible different passenger side rear door and qtr panel but that could well just be the light. Even so it's still good value.

    Boring? To me, yes it is but it still qualifies as a cheap classic in relatively, if not very good nick.

    well... yes, for real.. I'm not into pedal cars really when it comes to old cars (my daily driver is actually a pedal car - I have it only because the insurance and fuel consumption is ridiculously low and the car is quite small so I can park it almost anywhere ... If I would have spare few grand I would buy a C30 with 2.5 Turbo or something like that.. that's for sure..)

    anyway.. for similar money I would buy this:

    I'm the last person to argue with big engines, my daily is a 3.5 and my weekend is a 6.6 (10.1L combined) but don't forget this is a classic forum and the vehicles you're suggesting are €1683 / annum to tax. Not many would tolerate that for weekend use, in fact I have difficulty maintaining that for daily use on the 735.

    Fords don't seem to age as well as other cars - 81 Escort v's 81 Golf or Corolla ?? :(

    Have an S320 W220 sitting in the drive for 5 years now - NOT going to 'give it away' - it WILL regain value sometime :rolleyes:

    I do like the 70's Mk1 Consul/Granada, Nissan 280C, Toyota Crown, W123 280E etc

    I must be one of the rare few that has fond memories of the mark3 escort. My grandad had a yellow one which he bought new, it was the first car I remember liking, especially compared to tne old fiat my dad had.

    My first car for bashin round the fields was an escort laser 1.1 same colour as the one in that ad, cept mine had pepperpot alloys

    550 sterling is not bad for that car, what would vrt be?

    I remember as a youth thinking the Mk3 Escort was boss, it was sporty looking and predicably the xr3i version was on my wall all rallied up.
    Looking at one now, and comparing it to its peers, its a lump of dogsh1t, a total personality free zone.
    We had a Cortina, Mk2 Escort and two Toyota Corolla KE30's around that era.
    The Corolla was about 10 years ahead of the Fords in terms of build quality, ease of repair, comfort, reliability and so on.
    My Dad still misses his two KE30 estates, one written off and one orange one (rusted all over) he bought to swap interiors with the silver 'good one' that we had to use when the accident took away the lovely silver.
    By the time I was a young teen I could change the brake pads, wheels, and full interior on a KE30!

    Now I suppose you could look at a KE30 and think, YAWN, but it was truly a remarkable machine.

    My brother had a 1976 KE30 Estate and got great service from it (in spite of the constant rust battle). It was dark blue and had a 'UFI ***' registration.
    Could it have survived? Doubtful:rolleyes:

    Escort MK3s are complete and utter rubbish. I hate them. They have no redeeming features whatsoever.

    They looked very modern when they came out, streets ahead of some of the competition at the time, and a huge styling leap on the MK2.

    I've always liked them, never owned one though, the XR3i, Cabriolet and RS models were very stylish for their time and the Orion was considered in Ireland to be nearly a luxury car (especially the Ghia model). They were IMO a good, functional car for the time that did their job well.

    The engine is far from scrap. Thats a very viable restoration project and worth a lot more than 20 euros. The boiler may be a different story as it will have to be inspected.

    I dont agree with the 1100 price tag though. 100-300 depending on condition and pedigree.
