Corrib is basically a minimum security prison. On my 18th we had to smuggle my best mate in under the fence, and I met a girl who lost a finger going over the wall.
well ive my deposit paid for corrib, but we are going to probably pull out and look elsewhere, only problem everwhere else is booked out! suggestions anyone???

ya there is a few of us coming uo from tipp/limerick so we may end up getting a house! i would have liked the whole student residence thing in 1st yr but when we went up and went into 2 apartments in corrib there is no hope of it! what annoys me is ive stayed in 4 or 5 of them and they are all so much nicer than corrib, yet corrib is the most expensive!

You're supposedly paying for the atmosphere.I found it one of fear and dread.

What's the weekly and total cost of staying in Corrib Village? Their website has a big virus lurking around.

not too sure man ..are u staying there too yea ? what u mean a big virus ?

Theres 50 people ahead of me in the waiting list for Cuirt, does anyone know if I stand a chance of getting in then? I keep thinking that well 50 people might of just put an application in and decided to get private accomodation instead, someone please tell me I'm not mad :L

Ah...sorry to shoot you down man but i know in my case and the case of many of my friends that hefty deposit required is not something to simply be thrown away... althought ..you could always hope that 50 people done get their results ...which is likely of happening ... maybe... u could always settle for corrib...thats what i had to do :L

I must be on of the few to be for Menlo am I?
I'm sharing with a friend so I pretty much let her decide where to get.
Is it far from the college does anyone know?
    :)

Its about a ten - fifteen walk to NUI, ten minute walk to town.

hello! im starting in NUIG in sep and have kinda left the whole accomidation thing till last minute:rolleyes:.
I'm from meath and ll be coming up on my own and i have absolutley no clue about Galway. First time there was at the open day last year!
Anywho i have a friend of a friend who says she can get me a place in digs for the first few months till i get ot know the place.Just wondering if you could recommend any student accomedation that is still available. Apart from Corrib village , waaay to overpriced for state of it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 Trackie

Hey alerya I was in the exact same position. I'm from Meath & went to Galway knowing basically no one. I stayed in digs for the first year. I found it pretty good to get settled in, I spent most of my time in Corrib Village with new found friends!! Believe me you will love Galway....I never want to leave the place!! If you check out the NUIG website they have loads of information on accomodation www.nuigalway.ie/student_life/student_services/accommodation_office/
    Hope that helps

Hey so i'm going to Galway next year is it hard to get to know people in corrib village...I might be going to GMIT though does anyone know if its hard to get to know people there?? sorry I know its the nui forum but my main question is the first one
    thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 Trackie

hey poisonated, well seeing as your going to gmit it might be a bit more difficult to get to know people from corrib village. However you never know you might end up there on nights out! There is a student village called glasan just beside gmit but I dont have a clue what its like. You should get to know people by chatting to people on your course. Dont be shy put yourself out there! Most people are in the same boat so im sure you will get on fine;) good luck!

No haven't got anything sorted yet. Gonna get it completely sorted by tomorrow. I've the dilemma whether to take up a single room in Lisdonagh (apparently a fair bit away from the college / town - for nights out it'd cost a fair bit of taxi money too) or share a double elsewhere nearer the college...

A big virus as in the viruses you get on computers - a program I have detected one emanating from the corrib site :D
