that doesnt think he is remotely funny?I have thought this since i first seen him way back when he was on Dont feed the gondolas and i aired my view to my mates again over christmas because a few of his dvds were floating around. He has been living off one joke for years, basicly him living in ireland and telling us whats wrong with us from his american point of view.i sat through his latest dvd without even a smirk.i just dont see it:confused:

I agree with you to a point. I think he is a good programme maker, I enjoyed the work experience programme and the recent learn Irish programme.

He is absolutely useless as a stand up though. Utter sh1te.

I like him when he is taking the piss out of people but his Late Late show appearances are awful. Don't think I would pay to see him TBH

we know that we're a fecked up country, we don't need a bleedin yank to tell us that!

I think he comes across as a genuinely nice guy.

    He's not really tbh. Saw him at a gig in the college bar in UCG, could have been during rag week, not sure, can't remember;

Anyhooo, Mr Bishop got very annoyed that all of us were not giving him our utmost attention and were not enraptured at his 'comedy'....which was basically telling stories about his low paid work experience....there was no material other than that. He got bullthick on stage and at one stage actually walked off......

Tbh it wasn't that he told all of us to shut up.... it was HOW he told us.....

Made us all make more noise as I remember.....:D

Have thought he was an unfunny, egotistical, arrogant twat since...

I don't care what people say, but I think the likes of Dara O'Briain and Ed Byrne are far worse.

Whatever about his comedy skills. Irish is a funny language. Check out the South Park movie on TG4 atm.

Totally unfunny. Worse than Brendan O' Carroll and Brendan Grace.

    I'd do him.

    And that's all that matters.

To anyone that says he's crap, you're obviously just jealous of his hotness and success.

I can't see how anyone finds him funny. I sometimes wonder if the American accent is for real.

    You are kidding, right?
A lot of us are wondering if any part of him is for real! ;)

Hate him along with Tommy Tiernan and Russell Brand, grr!

He is funny but he requires the Irish to think and take a look at themselves and for that you are the ungrateful begrudging lot he pokes fun at. The Irish are the cleverest gob****es and they're too drunk to appreciate the fact

thats basically it. des is a commentator a bit like bill hicks. not any where as good. but in the same vein. and some people dont want to hear it. tough ****e, imho.

the "one joke" fish out of water reasoning is played by many comedian. most comedians are odd balls/outsiders and thats why they get into comedy in the first place. its a completely stupid reason to slay a comedian.

I'm a big Des Bishop fan, ever since I heard his joke about the immersion.

Glad to see begrudgery is still alive back in Ireland.

I dig Des Bishop, he seems like a genuine nice bloke, and I do enjoy his comedy too. His tv shows are always entertaining too.

My favourite Des Bishop is the positivity brigade....'verrrrrry negative Des, verrrry negative!'

I was at a Des Bishop gig once, and some guy collapsed in the crowd.

I went over to help him. As I was calming him down, waiting for the ambulance, someone told Des to continue (he'd stopped the gig because of all the action).

I was tending to this guy, deperately trying to calm him down (potential cardiac cases, so very important to keep the person calm). I kept saying "you're gonna be ok mate" etc etc.

Next thing i hear Des on the mic going "I can't carr on, there's a guy ding over there" lol :pac: :pac:

Me and the patient both laughed, though. It was pretty funny.

You kinda had to be there :P

Im not sure about Ed Byrne because i have never seen him.
Dara O'Briain is an intelligent comedian and does not have to use the F word every couple of seconds to get a laugh, like most other comedians do out there do.
I for one think he is one of the best!
I never did like any of the programs Des has done on RTE but is stand up is usually very funny.
The only thing i don't like about him is the way he always shouts into the mic

I saw Des "perform" in UL as the MC at Rag Week, years ago. There was a mud pit below the stage and 2 girls were mud wrestling. There was a bit of banter going on between Des, the girls and the crowd. In the spirit of this, one of the girls flung a bit of mud at him and his response was to SPIT at her from the stage!

I saw him in the canteen afterwards and said "Hey Des, you suck" as I walked by. His response was "yeah, you suck too". Pff, comedy fail.

Agree that Tommy Tiernan is also an unfunny twat. I've seen Ed Byrne live and I thought he ruled.

He seems like a nice guy, but he aint. I've met him a number of times at the Cat Laughs and he always came across as arrogant. Last year for instance, he was at the closing gig, where around 10 comedians close the festival. For anyone familiar with Kilkenny or the festival, it was on in Langtons and afterward the show he was sitting in the conservatory. Myself and 2 friends walked through to get to the beer garden and he shouted "Excuse me. This is the VIP section". FFS, he thinks he's a VIP? And even more ridiculous is the concept that Langtons has a VIP section!!!

Anyway in the Beer garden a friend of mine foolishly approached him and asked would he mind if she got a photo with him. He moaned about it so much she said, never mind if it annoys you that much. He then relented, as if he was doing her a favour, and said "I'm too tired for this and my throat hurts. Get me water and I'll let you have your photo". She duly went to the bar and asked for water, in the meantime I asked him what his problem was and he said "My throat is tired. Dont you know what its like being hassled all of the time? I've got a life too". So F*ck that, we left him.

Anytime I've met him he's had a "holier than thou" attitude which I disliked but that incident with him turned me off him forever.

See that's why I think Ireland misses good comedians like Dermot Morgan and Ardal O'Hanlon (still performing). There were much different comedians who lived in different times. The interacted with the community they were a part of and people could relate to them. They weren't demeaning or in any way looked down on people.

He does sound like an arrogant pr!ck. I met him two years ago in Dublin while filming there. It was a long day and at the end of it he shook hands with the producer and was leaving. He wouldn't look at the crew and I asked him "is there something wrong with our hands"? Seemed a bit surprised and eventually thanked us for getting everything sorted. My dad knew Dermot Morgan and Tommy Cooper and said they were very honest men and always put the audience and those behind the scenes first. Weren't self centered and pompous. That wasn't too long ago at all.

He took down the forum on his website because his fans on the forum weren't ALWAYS talking about him....like every thread had to be about him on there? What an idiot. If that's how you treat your fans, the few people that don't complain about you and actually support you then you must be an asshole!

i heard he gets kids and old folks hooked on dodgy heroin and when they come begging for a fix he sodomises them. christ, just imagine it, des bishop sodomises the weak and helpless. those poor vulnerable folk being sodomised by des bishop. all his so called comedy shows just a front to hide the fact des bishop sodomises kids and old men.
why do you sodomise kids and old people des bishop?

Come on ...Where is your sense of humour !..............or would ye all prefer to listen to Tommy Tiernan ranting on about the disabled
Agreed, I find Des Bishop funny.

Tommy Tiernan is a twat. When he stops being offensive for 5 minutes he can sometimes be funny. Now, I'm not a fan of political correctness by any means, but in terms of basic decency (and trying to keep it light) I believe there is a certain line, and TT crosses that line and goes way beyond it. Like one time he was going on about female suicide bombers, and talking about "what a way to go ... you've got this massive Persian t*t flying at you ..." and stuf like that, that sh*t just isn't funny.
Even when he's not off on a vile profanity laden rant, he's not funny most of the time. I had a DVD of his a few years ago, it was a crashing bore while Des Bishop gets it right on the money. "Fitting In" was class.

On the other hand, some comedians go slightly into risque territory, get a little dirty in their jokes etc, and it makes them funny, they use it as a tool. Tommy Tiernan just goes totally over the top sometimes, and whether he does or not, he's just not ****ing funny.

I've seen him twice in Dublin, very funny. Havn't seen his tv shows. He may be a prick off stage but we paid him to make us laugh, which he did.
