same as we'd do any time

what do you surprise him with anyway?

Curl into the foetal position and hope to God I go the day without crying of loneliness.

Or just watch television. The latter being the most likely to happen, unless I lose the remote.

    Valentines Day, serious business.

Bit of a love/hate relationship with Valentines, amongst my mates anyway it always shows the madly in love from the plain mad. 'Heres a card, dont expect anything for 360odd days because nobody told me I owed you anything' etc. On the other hand, you sometimes hear great plans like mollybird. I don't buy the 'but if you've no cash,a card is all you can do'. Its the spending time with the significant other that makes the day, if its a Dart or an Aeroplane is irrelevant.

My old pair don't do anything on valentines day really, beyond tokenistic stuff, but go out all the time, which I think is worth much more.

If a young 'un was unlucky enough to have me around valentines day, I'd probably fly off to Edinburgh or something for it. Something about flying away for Valentines thats actually a bit exciting, shared adventures and all that. I'd obviously bring her too, I wouldn't go on my own :pac:

    Score!

On topic, if I did have someone to spend it with, I'd like to go somewhere, even as close as London, to get away from other people. Be anon for day!

that Yes Man film convinced me theres nothing more romantic than flying away from it all.

I imagine its an especially brilliant feeling when the girl you're bringing is Zooey Deschanel  But sure. I also noticed they didn't have to check in 2 hours early, pay mad money for crap food, and get delayed on the runway....but still.

    City visits FTW.

Slightly Completely OT, but I can strongly recommend the book the film is based on, it's by Danny Wallace and is highly entertaining.

Yeah, my mate said the same and said it didn't quite live up in her eyes? Meh, thats off topic completely now.

Jaysus I looked and initially thought 'victory in Europe' day? Why would you want to do anything for that?

Then I saw it was in the ladies lounge and thought 'vagina day'... hmm wonder when thats on.

So yeah, its a big day in my calendar obviously :D

I always slag Vday off and go on about consumerism blah blah, and then end up in a scramble to organise something at the last minute :o

This year I'll be gloriously single, so it'll be nice not to have to worry about it.... usually though my ideal Vday would be something a bit different, depends on the gentleman in question... I remember when I was very young I did a picnic with lots of home made fancy scoffs for my then bf, and got him to meet me at a park we used to go for walks in.... he was all delighted bless his little cotton socks.... :D

Same thing that happens every other day...

    Nothing :(

Sex. Surprise no one else has said it, but that's great any day of the year so. Or, if that doesn't happen, have a great evening out with my lady friends, and probably extensively discuss how much boys suck.

Few nights away in a lovely hotel... oh wait, we can do that any time. In fact we're doing it the weekend after next.

Meh, people can be miserable about being single any day of the year. Ditto re doing nice stuff with their significant other.

Yeah, I don't get this misery thing. I love Valentine's day for the Vagina Monologues and because it's cute and pink with lots of hearts. (I wish I were joking about that.) Just because you aren't in love doesn't make it any less special, imo.

I wondered if I was the only one.:)

On Valentines day I will be reflecting on the many reasons why I don't have a boyfriend, possibly before crying myself to sleep. Or maybe I'll go skiing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,932 ✭✭✭The Saint

Well being a bloke everything being pink and lovehearts doesn't make it any more special. Sh1t, I just checked. It's going to be an a saturday this year. Guess I'll just go on the sauce.

Its my oh birthday, so we'll be marking that occasion rather than valentines day, I hope.

going away for the weekend, only to somewhere in Ireland to spend time with each other :)

I shall be in the final stages of my (carefully planned) firebomb campaign of Hallmark hq and all the card shops that fill their windows with cutesy teddy bears.

Hmmm, there's some banging on the door.....oh, look - the room has filled up with men in black, shouting about being gardai and i should step away from the computer. They want to know where i hid the explosives...

Well, depending on how long this investigation takes i may have the company of lots of men in uniform on Feb 14th, or the nice women of Mountjoy.

Ask myself why a wedding anniversary, birthday and Christmas (and numerous random romantic days throughout the year) will not suffice?

Then try and muster the courage to ignore it once and for all.

    *high fives*

Wish I could give the wimmens here some disgruntled story line bout how I was forgotten, or disappointed but it wouldnt be true.

If truth be told, I find it awkward and annoying. For those of you who dont, why wait for one day what you can say / do all year round. Why not save ourselves the annual fake suprise, and donate directly to hallmark, interflora, lily o briens and whatever random hotel.

Just remember that it's my birthday the day before. Looks like I'll be nursing a hangover on Valentines day while crying into my bottle of lonliness. Sweet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,375 ✭✭✭fonpokno

God knows, hopefully shall just stay in and snuggle up. I dislike valentine's day now. Last year I had a wonderful one and was dumped 3 days after. The year before that I stayed in with ice cream and Love Actually and cried over an ex!

    Everyone loves Valentines Day!

+1 Id like to go away for Vday. Although Im not particularly pushed if its valentines day when I go away. At the end of the day its one day out of a whole year. Ive plenty of other chances to show how much I love my other half.

I'll probably spend a lot of the day working up a heavy sweat, take some intermittent breaks for refeeding and rehydrating, have some laughs and some chats, push myself and my partner to the brink and pull back before getting over-tired, then rest a little before starting all over again.

I'll spend most of the day in the gym - I'll be recovering from my first competition of the year the previous weekend and preparing for the Nationals a few weeks later. There may/ may not be some romantic added extras later in the evening.

I'm going to Vanuatu around Valentines day. I'm going to be lyig on a white sandy beach, looking out at a tropical island and sipping drinks out of coconuts. It'll be the best!

We're not going because it's vday though. We don't celebrate it, it just happened the dates worked out that way!
