Israel/gaza/etc ... does anyone really care?

For years every time I go to RTE.ie or BBC news as well as all tv news headlines, always the first story is related to something in the near Middle East and the Israel issue. Now I know the news teams are stuck to write about anything that isn't recession or celebrity based but . . . does anyone really care? It always annoys me that I have to scroll past these stories as if they are just in the way! I honestly would believe that they've been showing the same news footage over and over again on tv for years as it always looks the exact same!

Now am I just a heartless so-and-so or are there others like me other there? Have I missed something here?

    I should point out that I'm not a heartless b*****d and I know there's a humanitarian story here but . . .

You dont have to feel bad for something beyond your control

    Is this for real??
You should watch the news on that E Channel. Sounds like it would be more your cup of tea.

I can't believe you wrote this for real..
I care...and I feel for those losing their loved ones every day,for those children not having food,a shelter or any parents or relatives left..

Some things are beyond our control and so what?
Do you feel bad only for what happens within your backgarden?

Do people care or even know about whats happening in Congo or Zimbabwe? Far greater humanitarian disasters (esp DR Congo) and yet largely off the media map.

I think you need to find your own source of information for the things you care about. With regard to the current issues in Gaza, a contact of mine on Flickr is an active photographic journalist who lives and works in the area.

From him i see first hand images and reports on what is happening, not filtered by the news or biased by agenda.

It's scary stuff and yes, i do care.

    I care.

Of course you don't have to care, you can have whatever opinion you want on the subject, including no opinion or just plain annoyance.

    Personally I'm interested.

i care, you'll be surprised how things on other other side of this planet might affect you someday

i would rather watch bbc news than the trash we get on sky or rte news

speaking of trashy news, i was flicking thru channels and stopped on CNN and was disgusted to see israeli propaganda representative trying justify slaughter, very sick, is that what nazis sounded when they were slaughtering the jews, russians and the gays in concentration camps? sick

I care but its very frustrating that nobody has the balls to take a stand against Isreal. Gaza is the worlds most densely populated area and is basically a huge refugee camp which Isreal contraols access to and bombs on a regular enough basis (usually around election time).

Israel is "protected" by the USA..this conflict between Isreal and Palestine is much more complicated than it seems and the roots of this conflict are deep.

I think this thread should be closed and deleted. This is something available all over the world including Israel & Palestine not to mention Ireland where I'm sure some people have family and friend connections with the area. The lack of compassion and the ignorance being shown is shocking.

It's an absolute disgrace, please delete this rubbish.

Thereby saying people aren't allowed to have a view other than your one. Disagreeing with someone is different from deleting the thread, it's a perfectly valid opinion, I'm sure plenty of people don't care.

    Its not complicated at all

Isreal was created illegally and since then Isreal has been carrying out a campaign of ethnic cleansing,

The abused has become the abuser, and nothing but a good straightner will make them cop on.....

    Simple as that

the state of Israel has the right to defend itself from Islamic terrorists i think

I wasnt talking specifically about Israel/Gaza. Of course I care, hold off on the heated comments if you dont have anything more than a line of text to judge

My comment referred to the general trend toward emotive headlines and dramatization in media websites, which his post directly addressed.

The content, presentation and theme of stories is beyond his control, and my point was he shouldnt feel bad about viewer fatigue given how mainstream media manages to make a spectacle of everything, thereby removing impact and any sense of urgency/place/significance in serious issues such as Israel/Gaza

Hang on a second, someone has a different opinion than you do so you call for thread closure? And that is after you personally abuse someone within the thread?

I just THINK that this thread is letting down boards in general. I'm not saying you're all not entitled to your opinion, I'm just saying maybe this is not the place to be condemning the deaths of women & children in their hundreds iin Gaza...

I hope the rest of the world isn't as heartless if something terrible happens on this side of Europe.

I "judged" a line of a text because that's the only thing you wrote...as simple as that!

I said the conflict there is more complicated than what it seems because there are political and economical reasons explaining why the USA stands for Israel too

ps:everybody is allowed to think whatever they want

    And rightly so

Your average news article cant possibly grasp the complexity of the conflict, but that is not the point - the original question spoke directly to presentation

this thread is making me think about how some people are anaesthetized to the death now

Everyday millions of people die of war, starvation etc and it's nothing shocking to us anymore...we are so used to hearing these figures...yeah,because these are only figures in our minds...

    How sad!!!

Why? Boards is a place where people can post their opinions. Boards.ie has no official line on anything, it's a place to share your thoughts, that is it.

So, this thread is letting down boards because people can actually post their real opinion?

How many of the people that 'care' have actually done anything to show support for the Palestinian people? Whether it be doing relief work in the region or even marching in solidarity in Dublin. I'm guessing a very, very, very small percentage.

Most of you people don't care. You just get emotive on message boards and then you go about your normal, daily life and only really 'care' again when the subject arises and you get to be armchair warriors for a few more mins.

a single sentence can't "possibly grasp the complexity of the conflict"...what a intuition!

    +1

I DO get bothered by it, in fact it pisses me off greatly. Israel apologists really piss me off - yes, Hamas are terrorist fanatics and ordinary Israeli people are living in fear... but how can anyone justify Israel's repression of the Palestinians?

Same time though, if any of us REALLY cared, we'd be out there helping the Palestinians - like Caoimhe Butterly http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caoimhe_Butterly or the late Rachel Corrie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Corrie.

I did marching in solidarity but not in Dublin but in Italy...and I can't stand those "armchair warriors" as you called them too
I have nothing against any peoples..I condemn the decisions made by the governs..

    racism is always a crime
