It's been the same for quite a while now. I've been waiting for some updates showing maybe the Rock of Cashel and some of the midlands. Any idea when the next spate of imagery will be available?

I know but it's ridiculous that the rest of the country isn't mapped. Most other west European countries are - they've shared their OS aerial photography with Google Earth. We could do that too; see here and zoom: http://ims0.osiemaps.ie/website/publicviewer/main.aspx?id=&utype=&ecom=S1&user=

Google did streetview for Amsterdam recently with hilarious consequences. I did some "virtual walking" around the the Dam and saw two rather Irish* looking chaps smoking a joint with their faces unshielded.

Brownie points to the first here to find them.

    *May not be Irish.

Haha that's a funny link. The amount of things that can be found in just one city.
If I see the Google Earth van I'll probably hide - knowing my luck I will be caught doing something embarassing for the whole world to see

As I was pulling out of my estate this morning, the street view car was turning in. Pity I didn't have the car washed :pac:

I read somewhere it will take 12 months before we see the images updated for Ireland.

Dublin has been updated to views from 20th September 2008. They are much better resolution images.

    Great to see.

Waterford City is still not mapped. I'm trying to map out high-res river pictures for my trips. Boosheet!

I noticed loads of Google Maps data has been refreshed for parts of Ireland this week. Looks to be image data from.. July or so. Lots of areas have got higher-res images too.

Just wondering if anybody has any info on when the whole country will be updated on google earth.
Getting a bit tired of only being able to see half of county Carlow clearly.

Some new imagery updates have been added to Google Earth/Maps, mostly Northern Ireland but some parts of the Republic too! This link highlights the new imagery with a red rectangle: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=http:%2F%2Fmw1.google.com%2Fmw-earth-vectordb%2FImagery_Updates%2F02-10-2010_Imagery_Update.kmz&sll=3.688855,-8.261719&sspn=112.23009,184.570313&ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=13.923404,-31.640625&spn=110.750828,184.570313&z=3

Mine is working ok for me at the moment. Is it working now for you? A few people were reporting problems with Gmail, so maybe the Google servers weren't working to their full capacity for a while.

Just tested and it seemed to be working for me fine

I'd say its a tough job to update Ireland! They're waiting for a "good summer" so the satellite images won't be just cloud cover :D

They got a few images of the beautiful northwest updated there lately, which was very nice, as the whole of the Dun na nGall had been covered by a Gigantic cloud for seemingly forever...

Although I sent a kmz to my brother down under and he said that the place looked as brown and as barren as the Falklands... just a pity we don't have hydrocarbons lying under it!!!

Google have all of Ireland mapped for streetview. They are just holding back release until they have some other news relevant to Ireland to go with it.

I doubt it. I just saw one of their Streetview cars pass me outside Newgrange last week. Sounds like they are still driving around. Remember, they can only do it on clear sunny days...

They are re-shooting the parts that didnt come out right.
They could launch now if they wanted to and leave the those bad pics out and upload them as they get them. They've been shooting since last spring.

Try this if the areas are blurry. Not the best but has some nice maps, photos and historical maps for Ireland.

    From: http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/2010/07/street-view-driving-update.html
Street View driving update Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 9:55 PM (cross-posted from the Google European Public Policy Blog) In May we announced that we had mistakenly included code in our software in Street View cars that collected WiFi payload data. As soon as we discovered our error, we not only stopped collecting WiFi data entirely, but also grounded our fleet of cars globally to give us time to remove the WiFi scanning equipment and discuss what had happened with local regulators. The WiFi data collection equipment has been removed from our cars in each country and the independent security experts Stroz Friedberg have approved a protocol to ensure any WiFi-related software is also removed from the cars before they start driving again. * Having spoken to the relevant regulators we have decided to start Street View driving in Ireland, Norway, South Africa and Sweden again starting next week. We expect to add more countries in time. Our cars will no longer collect any WiFi information at all, but will continue to collect photos and 3D imagery as they did before: * Photos: so that we can build Street View, our 360 degree street level maps. Photos like these are also being taken by TeleAtlas and NavTeq for Bing maps. In addition, we use this imagery to improve the quality of our maps, for example by using shop, street and traffic signs to refine our local business listings and travel directions; and * 3-D building imagery: we collect 3D geometry data with low power lasers (similar to those used in retail scanners) which help us improve our maps. NavTeq also collects this information in partnership with Bing. As does TeleAtlas. We recognize that serious mistakes were made in the collection of WiFi payload data, and we have worked to quickly rectify them. However we also believe that Street View is a great product for users, whether people want to find a hotel, check out a potential new home or find a restaurant. If you want more information about driving schedules, please look here http://maps.google.com/streetview. *We've updated this paragraph to clarify that both the hardware and software will have been removed from all Street View vehicles before they resume driving. ug. unfortunately in the past it hasn't been unusual for it to take a matter of years between the cars being observed and street view going live.

    We can hope though.

You'd think Ireland would be one of the first countries to go live on SV:confused:

You would but I suppose there's legal issues to be overcome.

I dont really understand the privacy issues, I mean if you're doing it (whatever "it" might be!) in view of the street you can hardly expect privacy right?

I think its more to do with the data that was being collected.
Walk down most streets & you are probably on CCTV anyway.

Just went into Google Earth to see what an Aerial view of the M50 looked liked since the upgrade & neither the new M50/M1, M50/Ballymun or M50/N2 junction pictures have been updated, does anybody know how often the images are update as it seems they are quite slow at updating if this is anything to go by.
