Has anyone else found that the links we got for Mike Lyons' lectures in that email from the class rep don't work?
Also, anyone know if we can get Prof. Gunnlaugsson's lectures anywhere?

I got Lyons' lecture notes a while back, but a friend was asking for them cause he is having trouble getting them off the web too. Should I send them on to you too?

As for the other chap, don't know really!

Did you guys get an exam q on it? Think we only had four lectures or something... There couldn't be that much they could ask on it could there?

Can't remember tbh. Have a gander at the past paper.

Lyons emailed us his notes. I'm guessing Lulu linked to them from the "Download" link in her email inbox.

Quick 1E8 Q: Does RLE stop at the end of a row, regardless of whether it's reached the max run length, or not?

ie if you had an image, max run 8, like this-
    00000000
    00110110
    00111110
    00000000

Would that be 08, 02, 12, 01, 12, 01, 02 etc, or just 03? If the latter, how is the image edge defined?

Haven't got round to the signal processing stuff yet, but since I didn't do the UD question it'll be a must. From what you've done so far, is it hard?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

Has the potential to be, there are plenty of "here's a formula without any proof or background" instances. I think I'll do the question anyway, since it's sort of an interesting field and I don't imagine many people in the class will even consider it.

Looks like you didn't. Wonder does that mean we wont...

You have a different lecturer for it tho. We had Big John Corish for Organic and some other type of Chem..

Wait... I think we did.. It may only have been part of a question tho...

Turns out TCDwifi won't let me choose a DBS server after all. I am getting so tired of changing settings every time I want to connect to home or college, maybe I should set up a college profile on the laptop, but that's still an annoying inconvenience.

    I didn't think they would.

Well, no wonder I never attempted that question. What the fuck, exactly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭devinejay

I remember thinking that that was a "nice" question in the way teachers used to say questions were "nice" but actually they were really hard. I don't think it would be too bad, but I couldn't explain how to do it cause I'm drastically out of practice.

    I don't understand how it's even a question...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭devinejay

    OK well roughly;
Find the general equation for a tangent to the line y= x^2-6 at the point (x,y)
Find the solutions for the tangent line if it passes through (3,0)
Find the points on x^2-6 where the slope is the same as the above solutions' slopes.

    Again, very rough, possibly wrong.

The post:view ratio for this thread is quite interesting, compared with other highly-posted threads. It's at about ~1:20 now, compared to ~1:40 for the Schols thread, ~1:50 for the AntiAntiMoan thread, ~1:60 for the BESS thread. Hmm :/

I was just surprised with the course of action recommended by ISS.

I can't figure out whether it's a high or low signal to noise ratio. Guess it depends on your perspective.
