Wouldnt be something i'd advise for your own safety.

Yeah definately do it, you'll be the most popular guy out on the night. You'll get loads of attention

*assuming this is the right person*

The OP is black, go for it!

Edit: If I was Jewish I'd so go as Hitler

My friend went as al jolson to a dress up thing a few years ago everyone was cool with it except 1 of our lectures got up on her high horse - lost a huge amount of respect for her that day.
however KKK is more a sign of hate and could result in some seriously pissed of people.

Go for it, if anyone asks say you're recreating that scene from Blazing saddles, double points if you manage to slip in the phrase "where all de white women at"?

(also - MIN2511 is not a honkey, this is why it's ok)

With all due respect you will get away with it because you are black.

If a white person went anywhere dressed as a member of the KKK there would be serious issues.

**** it, if a white person started this thread it would be a lot different i think.

I never specified what type of attention he'd get. If he wants to go out dressed as a member of a racist group then thats the chance he takes.

EDIT: Didnt realise the OP was black him/herself - In which case - As Dragan said you wont have any hassle in that case.

If you do, people wouldn't be in any position to get offended... seeing as you are black.

Reminds me of halloween a couple of years ago, a mate of mine dressed up in nazi uniform swaztica and all, dissappointingly we stayed in a gaff, can only imagine the beatings he would of got out on the town :D

That's true C-13 but isn't the whole point of a KKK costume that it has a hood that covers the face?

Good luck getting it off and showing everyone how black and hilarious you are before the first stones start flying OP.

It makes a big difference really whether it's a black person or a white person that wears such a costume.

Surely on Hallow'een night you would just want to enjoy yourself and not have in the back of your mind, the worry of it all kicking off.

Yep, Agree completely. There's a fair chance of getting a belt in the back of the head with something before you get the hood off to show.

So if a black person wears a KKK outfit then it's ok? B*****ks! The KKK carried out attacks on any non-white people and even white people who were seen to be either living amongst black people or condoning their existence. I personally wouldn't attack someone who wore it as a Hallow'een costume but I certainly wouldn't be impressed or find it amusing.

Why I don't subscribe to KKK ideals. In fact my group of friends would certainly understand that I wasn't being serious if I wore such a costume and whilst they wouldn't find it the slightest bit funny I could definitely get away with making a "joke".

Short answer ... yes it is offensive. I dont care what colour you are - its still offensive, as would be hitler, even if you were jewish - actually especially if you are jewish or in this case especially if you are black.

    Why would you want to/

And anyone who wasn't a WASP. They hated the Irish, Eastern Europeans, Catholics.

Why shouldn't I dress up as a KKK member as an ironic, look at me I'm so funny, protest about the Europeans sold into slavery by the Moors?

Agreed. Personally i think it a case of laugh at anything or laugh at nothing, but the double standards around things like this piss me off.

Remember the parts of history you choose to remember and act accordingly.

 Can't see where I said it was ok... All I said was it would make a difference. At the end of the day, while the KKK did terrorise and kill white people, their main agenda was to destroy blacks and Jews.

Fair enough, each to their own tbh....

Perhaps you could stencil a 'vote Obama' logo on the back...?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

The colour of the OP's skin is irrelevant. The KKK are a group who stand for hatred, bigotry, intolerance and every concievable form of racism known. They were and still are responsible for murder and intimidation of people because of religious beliefs and skin colour.
Would the OP dress up as a neo-nazi? They have the same beliefs as the Klan, hatred of "ni***rs, jews and non-christians (their words, not mine)", but are more prevalent in Europe.
Sorry about the rant but I think this is a bad idea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,526 ✭✭✭m@cc@

On an note, you also have to ask yourself if you would be let in wearing a KKK outfit. In this PC age, would you want a photo of someone in a KKK outfit in your establishment?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,300 ✭✭✭nice1franko

The KKK, whose members are largely WASP, hate the Irish just as much as black people. Well they hate all Roman Catholics not just the Irish - but they reserve a special hatred for us, Jews and the blacks. So, if any black people come up to you to kick yer head in explain that you're brothers in that respect. When they go to kick your head in for calling them "brothers" explain that you've as much right to be offended by your costume as they do and you can deal with it how you want - similar to how they can call themselves "nigga"... mid-beating vow never to listen to those bastards on boards again.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

Are you sure the KKK hates/hated the Irish that much? And on what grounds? I'm sure some of them say it and I'm sure some of them do hate the Irish... but if Irish people wanted to give their support/funding etc, I doubt the KKK would object - whites are whites. In the early days, catholics were certainly a target of the KKK but by the turn of the century, commies became more of a concern. Some grandmaster nut-job praised McDowell's immigration policy a few years ago. I would say many of those loons admire Ireland because of its mostly white population and good ol' simple, rural, traditional way of life (that's how Ireland is perceived still).

Maybe. I think an excellent fuk-you to such people is to laugh at them - Mel Brooks, a Jew, did so when he made The Producers.
To Be or Not to Be is another piss-take of the nazis and a chiefly Jewish production.

Why oh why do people have to get offended by everything these days? seriously, lighten up people!

I think the funny part of your costume would be the irony of it, I think the vote obama suggestion is classic.

Try dressing up as an altar boy instead

Can Jews and Catholics also get away with dressing as the KKK, BTW?

Well if I saw a black person or Jewish person dressed up as a member of the KKK, I would view it as a piss-take... not an "endorsement".

The altar boy was definitely one on my mind, but i need someone to dress as a priest ;)

Because they're basically the Orange Order with slack-jawed drawls.

There's a loose connection based on historical factors, but not a close bond. That's actually something I did a bit of reading up on. Guarantee you most of those yokels don't have an iota about the Orange Order.

Like most racist movements the KKK places great faith in endorsing irrational hatred of colour / creed as their motivations for attacking those different to them when their true motivations are completely different.

While there are of course, slack jawed yokels ready to do whatever to "purify" or "defend" the race their real raison d'etre is purely to do with economics. The migrations of 18th and early 19th century delivered 100's of thousands of immigrants to America ready to do any work at whatever price. They were able to undercut the traditional WASP white thrash class and as a result drew the ire of those who stood to loose out financially.

Interestingly enough, post emancipation, the original Night Riders were more concerned with driving out anyone they considered foreign. They deliberately targeted churches, businesses and families in an attempt to "cleanse" the Labour pool not the gene pool. The whole burning cross and disguises was an attempt to threaten and intimidate people into leaving. If they were on their way to murder the witnesses in a town that approved and backed their actions then why would they bother?

Anyway they detested the Irish in particular who flooded into their traditional strongholds post Civil War. The reasons for this are varied but the most important being that local merchants would be more inclined to employ a white English speaking, Irish man rather than a freed black. The only reason however, that there were less outright murders was because State Legislatures placed more importance on the death of a white man than a black man whatever the white mans nationality. Also as it's a WASP movement you can imagine the traditional superiority that these would have for the prehensile Irish men turning up in their towns.

I'd suspect that today much of that hatred for the Irish has died down...

I don't see why Europeans would get offended. The KKK are modern day monsters, Halloweens all about dressing up as scary things not dressing up as cartoon characters and household products.

I'm surprised everyone would take offense so quickly.

You could always paint your and hands black to lighten it up a bit if you're white

Is this just an Irish thing or do they say it in other countries?....people want to know if he is black...not coloured.

It can't be awesome or racist depending on the colour of his skin. It's either awesome or racist full stop.

Personally I think it would be pretty funny but a lot of people wont.
