yes but you're not taking into consideration the fact that ridiculously slow drivers cause accidents. it's not really safe at all to act like a child and slow people down deliberately thus causing them to lose their patience and possibly attempt something unsafe.

maybe it's your lack of patience that would cause the accident then me thinks!

Thats exactly why the legal minimum speed limit was posted, as lower speeds than this minimum certainly are a hazzard as you describe.

But its not a problem if youre following the maximum speed limit (BMWankers!)

hey overheal, i own a bmw! be nice!!!

I always drive at the maximum speed limit, usually a km or two over it so as not to piss people behind me off, however if they are trying to force me to break the limit then they can f*ck off, they can drive whatever speed they like but I'm not going to be forced into driving faster because of their lack of patience.

Why are most people on this thread bothered/ offended by speeds of other road users. If your travelling faster that traffic ahead of you overtake when safe to do so. If travelling slower than traffic behind you, its up to them whether they want to pass you or not.

    Chill out!

By this statement I am going to assume that you have never lost a close friend or family member in a car crash. If you ever do, then you might understand why people get offended.

Well sorry but at the risk of sounding bad, most of the BMW drivers in this thread come off like Motor-Nazis. "My car is german engineered and is superior to your honda civic! We don't need treaties OR speed limits! Death to all 07 Ford Fiestas! I'm in 5 gangs and we only commit hate crimes! I do what I want!" and so on, and so forth.

this thread should be renamed "Beemer drivers and why I hate them", it's obvious the OP has a thing against beemers.

    PS I don't drive one!

I don't have a thing against them, in fact I had typed out my original post without any mention of BMW drivers and then just before I posted it thought back and realised that I genuinely could predict who was going to overtake me, so I just decided to add it in in my post to get the discussion flowing more...

The anti-BMW drivers thing is just the way the thread has gone
People who wont move over when they can clearly see others going faster than them annoy the 'beep' out of me

You seem like you have not been driving long or indeed on boards
    1. There is a driving forum
    2. Get over it
    3. If Im faster than you, move over. Or else all other feckers will be riding your bumber like a 5euro hoar on a friday night i.e. hard and fast

    1. I'm well aware. The majority of topics in this forum could probably be sorted into different ones if you were to be that strict about it

    2. Eh..ok

    3. Or here's an idea, if you're driving faster than me you can slow the **** down because I'm doing the speed limit

Are you a Garda? if not then just let them pass without causing a situation that may attract the Gardaí you are not responsible for the driving habits of others, but you may contribute to road rage incidents by impeding the movements of others.

Yes, it is. You don't own the road you share it. If you get into an accident for being a stupid speeding gobshyte and get someone else killed that makes it our business. So none of that attitude.

    yes, share it.
it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS whether I'm speeding or not..sharing the road remember...speeding does not ****ing cause accidents, bad driving does.

    educate yourself for **** sake.

What I hate is being undertaken when I'm exceeding the speed limit.

If you're going faster than you should be, it is harder to react in time. There can be events that you can't help, but you have less time to react to them the faster you go.

And I'm not going to be told to "move over" if someone behind me finds it reasonable to break the speed limit. I'll continue on the way I always drive, if they want to overtake me...fine. But I'm not going to get out of their way.

Uh huh..I don't see in your post where speeding causes accidents though.
I'd say best part of accidents would happen regardless of the speed. Accidents are down to driving without due care.

(and here comes the people who listen to nothing but RSA adverts 'the bigger the speed the bigger the mess people!!!!!!")

:) yes had many an interesting drive in Rawlpindi, made Islamabad seem civilised! as for Cairo :D   I didn't drive there but the taxi driver collected several pedestrians as we went along (I'll never forget the look in that woman's eyes as she saw us driving streight at her! No we didn't hit her (how I don't know)) but he did further along :(

    Congrats.
From the Department of Motor Vehicles, South Carolina:
Speed can kill. As speed increases, the chance of a fatality increases.
If you are going more than 80 miles an hour, you have almost
no chance of living through a crash.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has found that the probability
of a fatality in a crash roughly doubles as traveling speeds increase
from 45 to 60 miles per hour and doubles again as the speed increases
from 60 to 70 miles per hour.

And thats just discussing raw momentum and the impact capacity of your vehicle. not to mention your sharply reduced opportunity to respond to unforseen road conditions. You might be able to brake in a shorter distance in your nazi car but it means **** all until you respond in time to press the brake pedal. Every fraction of a second could be the one that saves yours or someone else's life.

It's an accident. No one intends to be in a crash or accident, no one goes out and says "oh I'm going to drive without due care today".

    I never said they did?
but they're caused by the people who just don't have a ****ing clue how to drive..I'd hazard a guess and say more accidents are caused by dozy ****ers day dreaming out their window then people who are speeding and concentrating on the road.

Fantastic. This is the two wrongs make a right argument.

Its wrong to speed but its ok to lane hog because of some self richous belief. I love it. Thats jsut made my night that has.

Considering it's not really an argument in the first place and is just a few lines with no backing......erm..what's to argue?

    good chap!

The survival rate after a collision is dependent on so many factors, speed being the prime one of course, along with the other object onvolved the type of vehicle you are in or none if a pedestrian.

It isn't as simple as saying exceeding a prescribed limit will kill you!

Oh, thank god, a Guess! Well that settles it for me. So when you mistake that pothole for a puddle and drive right through it going 160kmph have one of your loved ones send us a written retraction from the funeral home.
