Certainly in our case and in competitors, if it's £20 then euro price is €22.

Certainly there will be value in alcohol as tax forms a large part of the cost and its used as a loss leader - but don't make the error of comparing full local off licence price v a promotion price.

Plenty of promotional prices here too.

Theres always amazon uk though. Beats most prices in ireland. They will clean up this december.

And Newry is not the only shopping town off a major NI route. Sprucefield in Lisburn has lots of decent shops. Western counties of NI are worth considering as well depending on where you're starting from or the time of year.

VincePP made that comment on 30-June 2016, that was after the referendum on 23-June.

It just shows how difficult it is to predict exchange rates.

I'd always be wary of any predictions on exchange rates.

The majority of market commentators were saying in February that Euro Dollar was going to hit parity by end of 2017. Its now $1.20.

Last week the majority of market commentators were saying the euro sterling rate would hit parity, and be at 95p within a short time. Its now broken below 90p.

Whenever there are political / financial / geographical issues, rates can change very quickly and often in the opposite direction to the crowd.

If something is what you want and there's a good saving at current exchange rates and you take into accont any other issues such as warranties and delivery cost, then buy it. But don't give much credibility to anyone who makes financial forecasts - with brexit, Trump and North Korea anything can happen any day. One comment from Theresa May could move sterling 5% in either direction within a week.

My own opinion and take it with a pinch of salt, is that the UK is a strong economy. It is now seeing strong inflation which will probably continue for a while which may see a rise in interest rates sooner than expected. If the market starts to think that would happen, sterling will strengthen considerably very quickly.

Likewise, if inflation subdues (unlikely) and some of the larger companies initiate moves out of london and the soft brexiteers fold and agree with May, then sterling will weaken very quickly.

No-one knows what will happen.

It's per transaction so just go back numerous times with the max amount each time.
If supermarket, just go to different tills.

I usually buy the first set as we go in; with the mrs too , from the self service till.Put it in the car with the receipt etc.then do the shopping and get another set with the trolley.Worst case,go back and pay cash at self service tills or customer service(cigarette counter)

Kids paracetamol/neurofen bottles are way cheaper too.

Euro/GBP rate is around 0.8850, will be interested to see what rates the shops give closer to Christmas.

that will be a big blow to Buttercrane - the M&S there is not a good shop anyway so I'm sure they're embarrassed about it. I reckon Buttercrane will be knocked down soon.

Current situation in Spain combined with probable rate increase in UK and more positive brexit talks will see sterling strengthen according to several analysts.

Two of the more respected ones are suggesting sterling will be €1.20/£1 by end Nov assuming 0.25% rate increase and continued turbulence in Spain.

Sterling always seems to get stronger just before christmas, pattern here.

True - that's also mentioned by analysts.

Possibly caused by end of year transfers of non sterling earnings and the resultant need to change those earnings into sterling
