ok, so this is our last friendly. i will put everybody who is interested in playing on the list and see how it goes. then handing over to des and mikie to pick their squad....last chance for people to stake a claim for the first few games. The squad size is massive, but eventual one will be smaller. a lot of options now in midfield which is the one thing that i am pleased with over last season as we struggled there at times and had to play bout 10 different lads in there over the season.

Went to physio about ankle today. It's just mild sprain, not bad. But wont make this game. Will be working to achieve some sort of fitness for first game of season though I'm sure it will be a while before I get a run out.

look like a right strong squad for our final game. Just a reminder that we need to have the money in tomorrow to show our interest in the squad. not sure when des is picking it. these lads wont be bad so we need to make sure that we end the pre season unbeaten.

another win to end preseason unbeaten. we were 2-0 up at half time, both from Ciaran, the second a sublime team goal that ended up in 3 first touch passes and a first time volley into the net.

Gav set me up for 3-0 and Peader set up Mark for 4-0. at this stage we made alot of changes and it disrupted the flow of the game, they got 1 back from a set piece (again) and then they got another from a long throw which went into the net for a bad goal.

overall, considering the bad conditions,we did just about ok, but we could have done alot better. im glad we played poor tonight but still won, as its something to work on and we know that even though we are on a good run, theres still effort needed to be put in.

once again disappointed with the late set piece goals, we need to do better, no excuses as of next monday. both goals were individual mistakes. if wecut these out, we can go somewhere no doubt.

Good to know we won when playing poorly. Also nice to see a poor performance as how many times do you see teams flying in pre season and capitulating in the regular season (Shels and Spurs this year for example!). Really looking forward to next week even though I'll be looking on from the bench. We should have no fear this season and hopefully people wont be complacent after a good pre season.

Also, think Ed and Michael deserve a lot of thanks for their efforts in keeping things ticking over in pre season with Des being on the job hunt. Good work lads

    Agreed..and good tests at that.

From the sideline, it was a comfortable result while the passing at times was off in the first half. I don't quite know how or where their late pressure came with frees and shots, probably the amount of changes we made.

No excuse for the second goal and didn't see the first as I was just getting on, but still, unbeaten in pre-season and two wins from the last three. Some great goals and a couple of missed chances

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

actually ya,we scored 3 excellent goals tonight, all well made, all of them great team moves and lovely one touch passes for assists. indeed, all our goals lately are from open play and are well worked. its a bit worrying that we aint scoring from set pieces, but sure suppose we cant complain and be greedy. if we carry on scoring like this, then we will all be very happy and once again, a good spread of the goals tonight with 3 scorers and mark and Ciaran getting on the scoresheet for the first time for us.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,357 ✭✭✭emc2

good result over all lads, It's nice to be able to off the pitch saying we weren't great and still beating a decent team by a couple of goals. I think we've come on well over the pre-season. It will really stand to us. Fair play Ed for organising this group of Monday night games for us.

The hard work starts next week lads - lets keep it going!

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 21,653 Mod ✭✭✭✭helimachoptor

Wasnt a pretty game thats for sure.

First 2 goals were well worked starting off with 2 great throw ins from the RB:D.

Again with the set piece conceding a goal but at least it was just one.

Dfx hang your head in shame for that second goal:D From where I saw it I think it was actually going wide before you went near it:eek:

the football wasn't pretty but we didn't shy away from the physical game so well done on that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,152 ✭✭✭Idu

Great result lads and a great end to a really good pre-season.

I never made it to the physio because I couldnt get out of work. Been a bit of a common theme the last few weeks and I think it probably will be the case for the next few months at least. With that in mind I'm going to have to step out of the squad. Not fair on anyone to have a player who's availability would be in doubt every week until very close to kick off. Definitely not the way Des and Mick would want to be running a squad.

I'll be keeping an eye on your results anyway and if you're ever stuck later in the year obviously I'll step in if able. Hopefully by the time the summer league rolls around things will have calmed down and I can go back playing
