looking for a good game. should get it. hawks are a tough (borderline!) team. They hit hard and they play a traditional style game with good movement and big targets up front.

Geelong are tough as nails too tho, and midfield is their key. If Bartel, Corey, Selwood, Ablett and Lyng get an upperhand, they will make bits of the Hawks. But they have good players like Mitchell, Hodge, Rioli who can match up to the midfielders and give them a run for their money.

I think the cats have enough to win, but Buddy is due a good game after a bad one Saturday, and no better place to do it than a grand final. Great to see Crawford get to a final too in what could be his last game.

Any ideas if this is going to be shown on TG4 or Setanta Irelans, and if so, what (Irish) time?

    Cheers

    AFL GRAND FINAL:

    Live on Setanta Sports 2
    and Eurosport 2,
    Saturday 4.30am

Repeated on Setanta Sports 2 at noon and Sunday 6pm on Eurosport 2.

Highlights Monday Evening 7pm on Setanta Sports 2, and Wednesday night 11pm on TG4

Sorry for the big letters, its just I know that people are gooing to log on here and ask, what time is the game on, what channel is it on, so now its easy to see!:pac:

I checked TG4 and it doesnt seem to be live on that, nor is it on Sky Sports.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,918 ✭✭✭Brian017

It's not live on Eurosport, is it?

Really looking forward to this. We could be in for a cracker ala 2005 and 2006. The two best teams in the AFL at the moment, and both worthy Grand Finalists. Should be better than last years borefest. Don't ask me why but, if the Hawks can be within a goal at 3-Quarter-Time I think they wiil nick it in the last terms. Either way the Cats will have to earn this one not like last year.

I'll be up at 5am on Saturday in time for the 5:30am first bounce; will be a long day but it'll be worth it. Enjoy it folks, could have a classic on our hands hopefully :D

The Woolshed reckon they're showing it at 10.30. Presumably it's recorded but could give a few extra hours kip and, given it's GF day, that seems like a pretty reasonable time to crack open a few frosty ones...

Hmm I even have a nice crate of Carlton cold at at home. Might throw a few in the fridge and enjoy this at twelve.

YOu sure can. You can also pick up Crown and VB but still trying to find a place where they sell Boags or Cascade!

damn! so what fine establishment sells this great liquor?

Wouldnt mind stocking the fridge with a carton of Carlton Draught!

and back on topic, looks like Paul Chapman will be fit for Saturday. Big plus for Geelong. It could be a nasty opening few minutes tho, I reckon Hawthorns middle men are going to hit hard and early and try stop the Cats running game.

Molloys in Nutgrove, Rathfarnham, Dublin had a special at the weekend.

6 bottles for €6. I couldn't turn that down so picked up a case. VB was €2.50 a bottle.

Jaysus! Nearly worth the 150 mile round trip to pick up a load of them!

and here's something to get people in the mood, the 89 final between both clubs, remembered for many reason, not least, because of the dirtiness of it all.

coz its made from beer! ;)

whats your drink of choice OCH?

and on GF related matters, Wojinski (sp) is the cat unlucky to lose his final spot to Chapman. Must be a serious kick in the hole to lose out on a spot in the week before the final.

Coopers! It's made from pale ale!

Had an idea: does everyone wanna pick a winner and a margin and whoever is closest wins? Or feel free to suggest a better format.

I'll go for Cats by 12 points.

And remember, it's just for fun!

Just in from the pub now & there's a great buzz in the city tonight! I reckon it'll be a tight game tomorrow but the cats will win by about 24. Would love to see the hawks win it for Crawford though.

PS. Was at the grand final parade today, the crowd there was unreal, apparently 70,000 were down at it today!

Cats up by 1 at quarter time 33-32.

    Excellent game so far.

    Hawthorn Hawks
Hawks ahead at the half 51-48

Cam Mooney just missed from right in front on the siren. Tom Harley seriously concussed and gone off while the Hawks have their own injury worries and the inaffective Sam Mitchell has been placed on report for a hard hit on Ablett.

    Very good game.

Getting nervous now, alot of posession football with 12 min to go. Hawks not getting out og teir half easy. Still up by 15. Come on Rioli!

Well what a fantastic contest that was!

Hawks fully deserved the win. Delighted for Luke Hodge winning the Norm Smith Medal. If a player from Hawthorn was going to win it before the game then it was gonna be him. He was everywhere.

Absolutely delighted for Shane Crawford. You could see how much it meant to him during the presentation.

The Cats were good in patches but just too erratic in front of goal and Hawthorn defended superbly.

It was a great game and I'm delighted for Hawthorn. they played a great game and had far more emphasis on tactis and gameplans than Geelong. Geelong tried rely on the same style of paly, and had no plan B. hawthorn were well drilled, and this was evidenced by the fact they gave away over 10 rushed behinds, they were not going to waste the ball and give geelong a chance to get a goal on them. Hodge was superb, great determination. the comms on 7 thought the defining moment was Rioli winning that hard ball by the sideline, and its hard not to agree, he was immense today too. It showed the charecter of Hawthorn, a good tough side able to mix it. Well done to them.

I thought beforehand that Hawthorn may sneak this one, but as it turned out it was Geelong that lost it with their missed chances. At least according to the reports (I didnt see the match yet, will catch the highlights this week):

    The scores were:

    HAWTHORN 5.2 8.3 14.5 18.7 - 115
    GEELONG 5.3 6.12 9.18 11.23 - 89

A huge number of missed goals by Geelong with 23, compared with Hawks 7. The Age called it: "Hawthorn pulls off grand final heist".

Hawthorn has pulled off a remarkable and unlikely premiership triumph, defeating a dreadfully inaccurate Geelong by 26 points.

Well done to both Hawthorn and Geelong. Clearly they were the better teams this season, fully deserving their grand final berths, and both clubs would be worthy of taking the premiership.

Overall, a good season, if a bit inevitable and without shocks towards the end.

Just seen the replay on Setanta - exciting game that could have gone either way until almost the end of the final quarter. Geelong were just a bit under par but threw the game away in the second quarter with inaccuracy on goal - I suspect that if they had managed a 20 point lead at half time, the Hawks would have been on the back foot and not been able to pick up the momentum. But Hawthorn rose to the occasion, while for the Cats it was just a game too far.

An excellent season for the Cats (who I consider to be my team on the basis of having friends who live in Geelong) - will they be able to keep their top position in the ladder next season, I wonder.

To be fair though, at least 8 of those 23 singles were due to rush behinds from Hawthorn.

Great game, really enjoyed it. Fair play to Hawthorn.

Geelong shot themselves in the foot with far far too many singles especially the one at the very end of the 2nd quarter, shocking miss. Geelong had more scores but there was such a vast gap in goals scored. Hawthorn won because they took their chances when they had them (and scored some super super goals)

I'm new to the Aussie Rules game, is conceding singles a very common occurance in the AFL?

I'm definitely gonna follow this closely next season. Great stuff.

Yeah it beats conceding a six point goal by loosing the ball.

There was big complaints about it earlier on in the year when A Richmond player did it three times in the space of a minute so his team didn't give up possession and would win the game.

I've seen it before but I noticed it a lot more this morning. It makes sense but Id have thought it would be discouraged.

Hmmm sounds like poor form tbh. Maybe they could make the rule that if its conceded then it counts for more than if scored to discourage it?

Lol well two years ago we were the best team in the AFL but we lost a lot of stars. The team is very young now but there's some serious talent. Give it two or three years of transition and we'll be back up there.

Might as well go all out and be an Eagle with everything! :D

Hmmm well the Eagle part is pretty much what had me on that buzz in the 1st place!! Ill look into it...but I'm likely to join the bandwagon!

Boo-urns! Btw one last question on the west coast eagles.....do they have an anti semetic element in their support? I could never support such a team! :pac:

Is that the AFL done now besides the Intn'l Rules or is there any other comps to finish?
