Very widely available - almost every off license and most supermarkets. Wouldn't be gone on it personally.

I found it to be absolutely vile. I couldn't recommend it, but then again my tastes are not your tastes.

Isn't that the one with tequila in it? Weird combination.

Most bars use it as a subsitute for Corona because its so cheap. I've tasted it, find it discusting. wait wait! I was thinking of 'Sol' sorry.

Drank a **** load of this on a binge in paris, not a good taste, incredibly sweet, but you will get ****ed up.

Sol is manky but then again so is Corona.
All Mexican beers are just sweet and tasteless.

Bohemia has a bit of flavour to it but is still very sweet. Mass market beer in hot countries is rarely much cop in the flavour stakes.

I actually have to say that Bohemia is probably my favourite beer of all time. Drank gallons of the stuff when I was in Mexico. Does anybody know where to get it in Ireland or even if it's sold here at all? Might have to import some myself....

Tecate wasn't bad at all when I was in Mexico, but never seen it here.

In relation to the OP's question, Desperados is possibly the worst beer I've ever tasted. For something supposed to have tequila in it, I don't know how it's so sweet. It's like drinking a shandy with more lemonade than beer in it.

Negro Modelo is the king of mexican beers... Desperados is bleeding minging... more of an alcopop really..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

I had this years ago in Spain, loved it. cheers for the link.

Desperados are pretty tasty!! Not as widely available as i would like.. only a few specialist off licences and pubs. ... Delish!:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 491 ✭✭deleriumtremens

Its not bad. Wouldnt drink more than 2 or 3 bottles though, it just dosent taste like most beers!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,120 ✭✭✭shrapnel222

it's pretty vile to be honest- sickly sweet

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,625 ✭✭✭flyswatter

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I think Desperados is an ace drink. I couldn't really taste the tequila in it, and it's especially nice with lemon. Hope I can get it over here, I drank it all the time in France!

I love Desparados. Possibly my favourite drink. Much better than Brahma, which is supposed to be tequila flavoured too

Where in Dublin has it do you know ?
I had this in Glasgow a while ago. £1.50 a bottle, can't complain. I agree that after two you make funny faces. Still though I liked it by and large and would buy a few in if they were avabilable.

Everywhere seems to have Sol now .

Brahma is a light lager something like Corona.
It's not meant to be tequila flavoured.

Anyone know what off licences I can get Desperados in? Is it in O'Briens?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 695 ✭✭✭FusionNet

Carry Outs stock it. I have an awful sweet tooth so I dont mind it. Its like everything there is a time and a place. If its really hot and this beer is really cold you'd lash two down no bother. I agree with others you wouldnt want too many. Pretty powerful tack too!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 165 ✭✭GSpoon

Deveaneys off licence in Dundrum, Whelans off licence on Wexford St (Supposedly they started stocking it back in the day for Brian McFadden ) The Porterhouse in Temple Bar stocks it too.. They ae the only places on dub ive been able to get my hands on it.. love it!!!

Ice cold with some lime on a sunny day.. perfect.

I Think Desperados is a great beer love the sweet taste

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,443 ✭✭✭Red Sleeping Beauty

Here lads, this isn't even Mexian! It's bleedin French according to Wiki

I might just get a bottle of Tequilla and add it to a Corona or sol or something and see what happens :p

The students in the UK are mad for this stuff. Gets em pissed cheap I suppose is the reason.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,443 ✭✭✭Red Sleeping Beauty

There's an off-license on Wexford St that sells it. I think it was the Whelans's one I was in. It's €2.55 a bottle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,794 ✭✭✭chillywilly

    Thats steep,there only 330ml bottles?

its available in nearly every off licence now as the major distributors are pushing it, cheapest ive seen is 2 50 a bottle, but some places youll get a 5 for 10 euro deal.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,992 ✭✭✭✭gurramok

They had it in a Molloys offy. I had asked at the time for some Spanish beer for the world cup and the cashier pointed to this stuff. It is indeed far too sweet in that I had to give the bottles away!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 444 ✭✭Molloys Clondalkin

What Molloys was that do you mind me asking ?they need a slap for saying its spanish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,477 ✭✭✭grenache

Desperados is bloody awful stuff. Its also French, not Mexican. You're as well off buying yourself a shandy if you're after that sort of taste.

Back then, it was in Finglas. There was no other Spanish beer around and the fellow pointed me to Desperados even though its not Spanish(I realised that after when I got home)

It's horrible, horrible muck. Like drinking a bottle of lemonade with a dash of lager. How anyone could like it is beyond me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1 Yu Suzuki

I absolutely love it. Since I first had it about four weeks ago, I find Lager very very bland. 5.9% is just a bonus... :) The only problem is my local off licence is regularly sold out of it due to it's popularity.

Vile stuff, tried it a few months ago. One sip, spat it out in disgust and poured the bottle down the sink!

Its €1.99 in the majority of Cork/Limerick offies i've seen it in.

Desperados is not Mexican as Corona and Sol but French. Its name is not even in spanish, but in old fashion western movie english and means outlaws.
Negra Modelo is a really good beer for me too. :pac: :pac: :pac:

probably the same muck in a different bottle

I love it, discovered it in spain about 4 years ago and was delighted when my local off licence started stocking it last year. Its €1.79 a bottle in Gormleys letterkenny and the same price in Kernans in Newtowncunningham and also Kernans in Stranorlar.

I always keep a few bottles of it in the fridge. Its not a drink i could drink all night but 2 or 3 ice cold bottles of it is perfect.

I got some of the El Tequito stuff from lidl and I'd say its the exact same beer as it tastes identical and has the same 5.9% alcohol content.

Fairly sure it's from a German brewery. Heineken don't normally do contract stuff like this.

When your beer is cold enough not to have any taste, sure it's grand. That's the whole marketing strategy of Coors and Heineken.

ive been finding its harder to get in last while i too enjoy it from time to time but have been unable to get it for some time now :(

I really like it but i got whopping hangovers from it. And it gives me the "squirts" for a day or 2 after

    Not similar at all.
Brahama is a light tasting lager.
Desparados is a lager base with sweeteners and lime and tequila flavourings.

Seen Desparados in my local Centra yesterday , after I waded through 10 foot high stacks of Bud, Carlsbad and Heino. I had one bottle of it in a sh1ty guesthouse in France - never again!
