New Garda Traffic Corps lights?

Was coming through the new barrier free last night on the M50 and there were a couple Traffic Corps vehicles there. They had very obvious red and blue lights. Correct me if I'm wrong but Garda vehicles only use Blue lights currently.

Is this a new theme they're going for with the traffic corps vehicles?

Red led's on the back, its for when they're stopped on the side of a motorway etc, rather then using blues or hazards.

They're only fitted to the rear tho

This was the lights on the top of the car. The one on the left (as you look from the rear) was red and the one on the right was the blue.

My mate took a photo, will try get it and will post it up in the early hours.

Yea they're built into the lightbar, most have brake lights/rear fog lights that alternate aswell

Maybe it's just me then. It just appeared to me that one side was clearly red and the other clearly blue from behind. Suggesting to me that they were permanently red/blue rather than just visible as such from the back.

Some of the cars are like ufo's they have so many lights flashing. The traffic I see have blues on top but every light flashes such as hazards and indicators, etc.

Thought the Traffic Corps headbar went something like this,

    BLUE/RED/''GARDA''/RED/BLUE ?

I got the photo but of course my mate didn't get a great one. He agrees with me though, definitely red/blue bar. No point posting it as a result :(

This is what the lightbar was kinda like (but it was a garda traffic corps marked car):

THis is what they always used to look like as far as I was aware:

Went through again last night about 2330 and of course it was just a regular garda car there so now I'm starting to think I'm losing my mind.

    Well these are funky...

When our Astra's are stopped with the rear reds on, there's a blue and red light in the rear windscreen that alternates and flashes.. could it have been something like that?

Just thinking, bear in mind we're not used to having red lights towards the front of a vehicle (and which I think is against the law) It could cause some confusion as to which way the car was going..

The car was stationary in the left lane of the toll bridge just before a load of barriers. There was those blue cat eye flashing things all around to warn motorists (2hrs after barrier free tolling started).

I'm 100% sure (and so is he, despite the photo) that the lightbar on the roof of the vehicle was red and blue.

Attached is the image my mate took - which seems to suggest I'm a complete idiot and talking out my arse. This photo was supposed to prove me right!

Am I losing my mind? Is he? It (the red in the red/blue lights) was noticable from the N4 exit right up until we passed it going Northbound and "definitely" coming from the lightbar at the top. Unless some trickery was a foot that was misleading our eyes - relection off the wind thing on the bridge or something ??

If only I'd got the reg, one of you could check for me lol.

Looking at that pic, there's blue lights on both sides of the lightbar so I'd guess that it's like previously mentioend. The red section which lights to the rear when stopped was flashing when you passed...

Why is this bothering me so much? I'll keep an eye out and see what I can see out and about in the coming days. Do you have any photos of the ones you're talking about? I'm pretty sure I know the ones and that this wasn't one .. but all the evidence I've produced is proving me wrong.

If you're a Garda and some mad chap nearly crashes his car trying to photo your car .. please turn on the red lights when you pull me !

I love those Diplomatic cars .. I think they look the business :)

So you're saying those red lights on either side of police is what I no doubt saw?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 481 ✭✭JonAnderton

Possibly... on the ones in the picture, they'd be flashing with the blue lights though.. buit on the strobe ones, like in the video, or the ones in the back windows, can flash just red....

Hey man, you tell me you saw Elvis sticking the guy on, I'll believe you

Who would have thought patrol car lights could get such a discussion. The new cars have a button for "rear reds" on the light control panel. Theres a square red strobe embedded into the blue section either side of the garda sign. They can be switched on independently from the blues. Much the same as the pic above
