Apparently he won over 3 times what his auld lad made in his entire golf career.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 238 ✭✭barnacle

I say fair play to him. He won fair and square like any of us would.

His dad just happens to be Des Smyth

Last thing I would do is publicize a win like that, eejit IMO.

    He could be on boards

But what annoy me even more is that he went public!!! Was reading in the Metro that "a family friend" i.e Fergal Slattery advised him to do same. What gob****e in their right mind would advise such given the profile his da has.

    Who's Des Smyth?

Why are people pissed about this? Because he's already wealthy? The lotto isn't a hand-out to people in need. There's no deserving or undeserving winners.

Fair play to the guy, wish it was me that won it.

BTW there's a bloke here in Dublin who's won the lotto several times now. He spends thousands on tickets every week. If you wanna be pissed at somebody, be pissed at him.

I hope he does something good with the money.

For example, getting 100 prostitutes and doing them all at the same time.

I just don't like the look of the chap.

    What a load of c0ck.
If i won the first thing i'd do is start a thread telling everyone i won.
Whats he expected to do... hide it?
    Bollocks.
More power to the man. €9m, why would you hide it!?
    Party on...

What about money grabbing relatives and friends? People would treat you differently.
Chuggers would constantly come to your door.
You might be expected to donate to charities or local projects that you don't give a shit about.
And some scumbag could come and rob you.

I'd keep it secret for as long as possible.

the good ol' irish jealousy streak comin to the forefront again ! He bought a ticket, He won. End of. Whether he goes public or not, who gives a f**k. and the answer to the scumbag robbing him dilema, is to have a proper security system. 9.5 mill aint that much in this day and age to some businessmen entrepeneurs etc.

Says something about the type of person you are. If it were me I'd tell my family and then break the friends in when the publicity died down.

I've thought about this one a few times.

If I won 10 millions, I'd give a million each to my folks, a million each to my two brothers; that's 4 million gone. I'd split a million between my friends, and I'd give a million to charity, leaving me with 4 million, which is more than enough.

Keeping it secret would mean I couldn't do any of the above, so unfortunately I'd have to tell the world.

I'm gonna sue him for post-begrudgery stress disorder - must be worth about five million in damages - at least. Or would it be better if I rolled over the bonnet of his car at about 30 mph?

Most sickening lotto winner ever IMO.

Why? Because his old man's pretty good at his job? Because he's a student? Because he's from Louth? I really don't undersatnd the logic of that statement.

If you want really sickening, how about the woman from Galway who won something like £3 million when the lotto wasn't going too long. She was in her 60s or 70s and said that she was going to by a used car and a few new sheep. That to me is sickening, somebody esle could have put the money to better use, but some young fella winning now has a whole new life ahead of him because of his good fortune.

    Impossible.

How is it impossible to do something for as long as possible? By definition it's impossible for something possible to be impossible.

I am glad to see a young man winning the lotto. He's gonna know what to do with it and how to have a good time.

    Fair play to him :pac:

Forget about your friends! 5 million is better than 4 million.

If I won there is no way I'd go public with it, that's just asking for trouble.

Of course, if I won I'd die of shock as I never play.

Fair play to the young guy who won, and good luck to him. He played the game just like loads of others, and won. He beat the huge odds. Is it his fault that he has a famous dad? (I've never heard of his dad by the way!)
