    Hey folks,

Just thought it'd be fun to collect a list of well-known non-drinkers ;)

The most recent one I heard is Cristiano Ronaldo! Alex Ferguson mentioned it in response to allegations that Ronaldo was out drinking in LA

    Any others?

‘Many people have images of footballers as people who like to go out all the time, spend their money lavishly and like to date many women,' he tells Hello!

‘But I don’t drink alcohol, I hate smoking and I’m not a big spender. I live in a rural part of Cheshire, where squirrels, birds and cows are my closest neighbours.'

Des Bishop! This I know cos I was talkin' to him in the International. This was before I started the NDG of course. I'd actually love to talk to him about it when I get back from travelling in December and maybe he could put on a gig for us? :pac: he's such a motivated guy and he'd be really supportive I'd say. There are actually quite a few comedians who are non-drinkers.

50 Cent doesnt drink as much Bacardi as his choons suggest.

    Hitler.

As for C Ronaldo there was a photo in the paper only a few weeks back showing him looking fairly pissed. Not like him tp mislead his fans!

Paul Davis, keyboardist for the Happy Mondays doesn't drink, but he did drugs! How's that possible??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭pocketdooz

    Warren Buffett
    JD Rockefeller
    Donald Trump

I remember reading an article once about how there were a higher disproportionate number of non-drinkers who were successful in areas of business and politics.

Also, the Irish guy who owns all the mines and distillerys - John Teeling

I suppose it's down to time, motivation etc. which drinking kills.

I also think Hitler and Bismark didn't drink but I'm sure they're not the examples we're looking for !!!!!!!!

Hitler did drink the occasional beer.
I think you're mixing up his hatred for smoking. It seems he couldn't stand smoking and nobody could smoke in his prescence.

Don't think Peter Kay ever drank - not a recovering alcoholic.

Currently reading a book on Che Guevara and there are several references to him drinking.

In ''Bolivian Diary'' Che states that the drink never agreed with him and he stopped by the time he was in his late 20's. When he did drink he didn't drink much, apparently.

I heard the Duke of York or whatever Prince Andrew is called is teetotal.

So how come he married Fergie?

David Bowie and Peter Tork from the Monkees.

And that drummer guy from Derek and the Dominos who is in jail in California for killing his mother - I suppose that doesnt count.

and his brother worked in the Shelbourne Hotel in Stephens Green and married an Irish girl called Bridget Dowling that he met at the RDS and had a son called Patrick Hitler.

In later years Bridget claimed to have devised the famous hitler tache

Not to be defending the gimp, but I ALWAYS look drunk in photographs yet I've never drank so he might suffer from that conundrum !

I think Hitler had the odd beer -but was vegetarian and hated smoking.

It was probably better he didnt drink much cos he was a bit of a p**** sober

He was fond of the aul' cigars though, and was known to take the odd pill here and there.. all legal of course :D

Dylan Moran has guzzled more wine than some small French towns. Also the reason Des Bishop doesn't drink is because he was among other things an alcoholic teenager.

Johnny Delaney, former drummer with The Saw Doctors.

When the band used to tour he'd drink tea with the driver instead of going drinking with the rest of them and get up at the crack of dawn the next morning for a run. These days he's running about 100 marathons in 4 years to raise money for charity.

If your into rock music there's quite a few musicians who don't but some of those probably just gave up after overdoing it before..
There was also a whole early punk movement that revolved around not drinking or doing drugs..

Michael Collins quit drinking (after he signed the treaty and returned to Ireland, I think!). But there is documentation that he did quit at some stage!

The last day of his life he had downed a few, and why not! :P There had been a few stops along the journey for 'refreshments', some 'Clonakilty Wrestler'. May have contributed to his death in some way, ie not having clear judgement due to alchohol consumed (combined of course with a kidney infection and heavy cold).

So I think we can remove Collins from the list.

Just as an interesting sidenote, I heard once that in 1916, when stationed in the GPO he took a number of barrells of alchohol and poured them down the drain out of fear that the men would be drunk and thus not be able to perform their duties.

    How ironic eh
