Kat all pet shops and pet stores stock sunflower hearts. The cheapest way to buy it is in bulk in the 20kg bag

Brambling in the garden again today, came down to feed on a mixed seed feeder. 6 Redpoll enjoying the Nyger feeder and a visit from a Sparrowhawk scattering everything!

Which are more common in Cork?

Chaffinch are very common and is a resident bird here where as the Brambling are a winter visiter..

Sometimes individual Bramblings will move around with Chaffinches, so keep your eyes peeled..... :)

I'd say there are no more than 10 Chaffinches in my garden at the minute, with the single Brambling mixed in with them so definitely worth keeping a look out.

In central Europe Bramblings occasionally gather in flocks of several million - amazing birds.

A Treecreeper at Glendalough on 27 Jan 2013. This is the first time I have managed to get an acceptable shot of one of these birds, they never stay still long enough.

Thanks to Mikka for the reminder about Treecreepers, I checked out the park where I saw my first one a coupe of years ago, today. They are a tricky little bird to get right.

    Eastern Jackdaw today..

    Jackdaw_zps466e7821.jpg

And then I spotted this guy that got my heart pumping, a large gull with black legs, larger than the Kittiwake so that was ruled out. On further inspection of other photos, oil or dirt is suspected.... bummer..

This Sparrowhawk quietly drifted in over my shoulder as I was watching the Buzzard, not the first time one has done that!

Spotted this on the way out, looks like something making itself at home in the bale of hay?
