As you know, I'm not great at the bird ID - but wonder if this is a young robin?
( No doubt an expert will correct me soon):)

Do you submit records to the National Biodiversity Data Centre? There is a great group on Facebook called "UK Hoverflies" with people who can help with ID from photos. It would definitely be worth submitting your hoverfly records as there aren't many people who record them in Ireland.

    St Catherine's Park today

From an online ID search I am guessing that this is Common Speedwell?

I tell speedwell by the number of staemen and 1of the 4 petals is smaller/narrower than the rest.

Also in the woodland area of St Catherine's Pk
    Insect at no extra cost!

    Thanks Splish- you are brilliant:)

Apparently the Lesser Celandine was Wordsworth's favourite flower and there is an image of the flower engraved onto his tombstone.

The First verse of one the three poems he wrote about them:

    Pansies, lillies, kingcups, daisies,
    Let them live upon their praises;
Long as there's a sun that sets,
    Primroses will have their glory,
    Long as there are violets,
They will have a place in story:
There is a flower that shall be mine,
    'T is the little Celandine.

The heavy rain of late has resulted in the weir in Lucan Demesne becoming a 'white water' zone.

Orange-tip Anthocharis cardamines eggs on Cuckooflower. They usually lay one egg per plant as the larvae are cannibalistic.

    Hi all

as I recently passed the 50 post mark :-) I should be able to post pics now... here's my first attempt, from Flickr.. I hope it works and that it doesn't break any rules for being too large a file etc (its only a modest shot of a starling but if it works Ill put a few more things up)

Ahem... perhaps some helpful person could let me know if that is a link to one photo or the entire flickr album?
Ideally trying to post just the pic in question

sorry, I know my computers well enough, but I don't do any Facebook or Twitter or similar, so I am not that familiar with how this side of things works

    Thanks all
