It was 15 years ago, time to bury the hatchet perhaps?

What's more important a date than that 15 years, is the fact that this is the 20 year anniversary.

A time to remember, not forget.

No, Liverpool had a hard enough time burrying the dead.
Burrying the hatchet next to them wouldn't be right.

Rafa has always had a huge emphasis on bringing in players before pre-season, especially if they have no premiership experience.

I think now's the time for Villa to either piss or get off the pot, I think Barry would be a great addition, Did Carrick or Hargreaves value matter after they won PL & CL titles?

If buying them meant losing out on Anderson and Nani then yes their value would matter.
Oh United winning the PL back to back was more down to Ronaldo finding his
feet in the PL than Carricks form IMHO.

while its undoubtable that Ronaldo was key i think many people undeerestimate the importance of Carrick to that team.

    Hilarious.

Villa were never ON A POT to start with.

Liverpool/Rafa enquired as to the saleability of Barry, were told £18m or piss off, so they then proceded to lash in bids which were below the asking price. Each time being told to piss off, we already told you eighteen million. Ah go on, fourteen, no piss off, we already told you eighteen, ah go on, sixteen plus a player we don't really want anyway, no piss off, we already told you eighteen million.

Seems to me it's LIVERPOOL who need to piss or get off the pot, tbh.

the times of london has rafa lining up a 6m alternative if the barry deal doesnt go ahead.Any idea who that is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,871 ✭✭✭Karmafaerie

I love the way that Martin O'Niell, the manager who so lambasted Liverpool for "constantly using the press", has once again gone to the press to say that Arsenal are interested in Barry.

Arsenal didn't feel the need to say it, but MON did!

    To the press.

    AGAIN!!!

    FFS like.
The guy is really starting to piss me off!
Can't believe I used to rate him.

No matter how geat a manager he ever becomes, he'll always be a little man with a complex inside!

I don't know, but if he's a good alternative to Barry and only costing 6m, ditch the idea of Barry altogether and use the other 12m on a winger/striker!

    p.s. KEEP ALONSO ;)

Alonso's Agent says Arsenal have enquired:
    http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,2483_3826029,00.html

The classy midfielder has seen a possible move to Juventus hit the buffers after the Italian giants signed Christian Poulsen from Sevilla.
However, reports continue to suggest that Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is prepared to sell Alonso to fund his own spending plans.
Alonso is rated in the £14million bracket and has now been linked with a move to the Reds' Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is in the market for a midfielder after losing Mathieu Flamini, while Gilberto Silva is set to join Panathinaikos.
Reports in Spain suggest contact has been made between the two clubs and the 26-year-old's agent Inaki Ibanez says the player is waiting for Liverpool's decision.
"The player knows about this subject and now the decision lies with Liverpool," Ibanez told Spanish newspaper Publico.
Alonso's sale would give Benitez the funds to sign Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry, who has also been linked with a move to Arsenal.

Id rather us go for Michael Johnson than waste anymore time talking to Villa

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,929 ✭✭✭raven136

i'd love johnson, young and exciting.Anychance we could get him for around the 10-14m price range.
I'd keep alonso if a player of considerable ability (not promise) is the replacement.

Atletico have CL football, and his old pal Luis.
They also have a really good team, who'll challenge in Spain next year.
Also, he's a new daddy, who may prefer to raise his son in Madrid rather than London (pure speculation on my part there.)

Spurs have no CL football, and not too much of a chance of getting it IMO.

Id say he'd deffinately perfer Atletico.

agh, i hate this talk of not getting barry, but selling alonso anwyay. As it stands we have a very strong midfield which would be slightly strengthened by Barry replaceing alonso. Its not like Alonso is a liability, theres no point in replacing him with someone of lower quality. Should be keeping our strong areas intact and building on our weak areas, not weakening one area for the sake of another.

Very nearly but not quite there yet ;)
And quaresma would still be a disaster of a signing in my opinion, isnt that
the entire point of this thread to give opinions on transfer speculation?

You are perfectly entitled to. I just don't like seeing extremely negative posts about players we have been linked to. I don't particularly like Quaresma myself but being linked to a player that has obvious quality, although overrated, shouldn't be met with extreme reactions like "make me feel sick". The numerous comments like those slating Kewell recently are bang out of order too in my opinion.

On one of the papers today newcastle are close to taking insua on loan aparently.
He was supposed to part exchange for Milner but they just want him on loan now.

Thing is though what obvious quality does he have?
He has no end product, goes missing completely in big games and is famous for diving.
Granted he has scored some brilliant goals but so did Tony Yeboah in his day :D
Quaresma would cost 16-20m more than likely, i would be devestated if we put
all our eggs in his basket so to speak as i dont think he will cut the mustard
in the PL. I hope im wrong if he signs but dont see why i shouldnt say what i
think on the subject in fairness....

I think perhaps jesus needs a chill pill :p

Everyone expresses themselves differently. Some may a little OTT but that's where tolerence of those around you comes in...

You need to get married, THAT will bloody teach you tolerance ;)

That was yesterday, with another paper today saying that Rafa is gonna rebuff
the approaches, which probably means he will get some first team football this
season which can only be a good thing. :D

I see. Cool. If we don't get much in the way of transfers this year hopefully it will allow the younger guys a shot. Every other day we get a new "starlet" (which sounds totally porno btw) and I'd like to know if they are any good.
