How long does it take after you fill in the form on there website for the speed to be upgraded?

    Cheers.

I rebooted my modem 15 minutes after I filled in the form and it was done. In my parents house it was the next day before I noticed it.

Just moved into a house in Blackrock/Deansgrange.

I'm getting the tv hooked up by UPC on Friday. I later saw the 20mb BB on their site, so we called back to see if they could do both the tv & BB on Friday, save an engineer calling out twice.

The g/f was told by UPC that the BB lines were not yet installed to the area.

I thought the idea was that if we can get Digital tv, then the BB would be coming in on the same cable ?

There is a little more to it than that. They can broadcast digital over nearly any cable but they need more equipment for broadband.

that's pretty impressive... I've ordered BB from NTL 3 times now, each time I'm told to wait at my apt. They don't turn up and when I complained nothing happened...

Two friends of mine used to work in NTL and apparently it is well-known that some of the field staff do as little as possible.

Sounds to me like it's more of a management problem, that are letting the staff get-away poor customer service.

My experience is at complete variance with this. I've had to call NTL/UPC three times in five years.

1 Install BB. Came Saturday morning as arranged

2 Local hub problem was fixed before scheduled engineer called

3 Replaced my five year old modem last week, one day after talking to support on the phone when expected speed increase hadn't happened.

The guy that called last week said he had 14 calls across the South city. He starts at 0800 and might finish at 2000. Did not like his job, but definitely knew what he was at and made his appointment on time.

What's the cost of cancelling UPC broadband/tv before the 12 month minimum contract is up?

In the T&C it says you have to pay the balance up to the 12 months while some have posted on boards that you pay 2 months worth of fees

Ask UPC - its irrelevant what people post here on these matters. Go to the source.

I intend to as I'm expecting a callback from UPC soon, just want to be prepared.

I just completed the online form there to get the upgrade from 6 to 20. Any ideas how long it usualy takes to kick in? And is that all it takes or do they have to ring you?

Also: The cap for 10 and 20MB is unlimited, so would the people that are still on the old 6MB have the unlimited cap? That would make my day because I think I went over the cap just a tad last month. ;)

I wouldn't worry about a "tad over" - when I was on 6Mbps and had a 40GB cap, my average monthly download was ~ 60GB with no complaints from UPC. They would only contact you for excessive usage (closer to 100GB back then). I'm not sure if they even bother any longer when it comes to the cap with current 6Mbps users, since they are all headed for the 10/20Mbps package anyway.

I've just filled out the upgrade form. I am currently on the 3mb package (the old middle €30 package) and I know the free upgrade is to 10mb but I want the 20mb. When I filled in the form I selected the 6mb -> 20mb option. Will this upgrade go through and they'll change my bill over or will I have to ring them up to actually move up a package level?

I've had 20mb for 3 weeks now, and I have to say I am pretty disappointing.
Not only am I not reaching my top speeds, which is fine, but i am getting about 4/6mb when I was informed I would get about 17ish constant. I'm currently in the Ballaly area, and when I call to complain, I jsut get suggested to restart the router.

Anyone else in this area and had these problems as of late?

I'm on 12Mb- and never get more than 3-4Mb (but its very dependent on time of day). Whats the contention ratio (if any) on these connections? I keep getting spun about how loads of people in my neighbourhood using UPC broadband.

I was on 1-2Mb before they installed repeaters about a mile away.......

Should you not have been upgraded to 20mb? I thought the 12mb plan changed to 20mb.

Anyone hear any news on this. Should we be expecting the speed increases in the next few months?
