Tesco refuses to sell BBQ sauce to woman without ID

Seems like Tesco are worried about people getting drunk on BBQ sauce.:)

A Tesco store refused to sell barbecue sauce to a customer because it contained a tiny amount of alcohol and she couldn't prove her age.
Claire Birchell, 25, was told she could not buy the Jack Daniel's barbecue sauce which has an alcohol content of 2 per cent.
Staff at the store in in Flitwick, near Bedford also refused to sell the bottle to her brother-in-law, Philip Dover, 27, who did have ID, because they believed he would just give the bottle to Miss Birchell.
She was visiting her parents in Flitwick at the time and wanted to buy the sauce because shops near her home in Liverpool didn't stock it.

Mr Dover said: 'We just could not believe it. It's not as if we were going to go and sit down the park drinking it.
"Claire lives in Liverpool and she can't buy the sauce up there so she was really disappointed she couldn't get it in Flitwick. It just seems crazy over a sauce."
A spokesman for Tesco said "Our staff are incredibly vigilant when it comes to the sale of alcohol.
"However in this case it appears that there has been an error of judgement. We apologise for any upset caused."
Last month Tesco stopped selling alcohol to parents with their children in case they passed it on to the youngsters.
The supermarket chain defended the policy, saying it wanted staff to "err on the side of caution."
The Government has imposed tougher penalties on selling alcohol to minors and stores caught selling to under-18s three times in three months face fines of £10,000.

I have a similar story invloving CkOne

On a school story we went to England. On the ferry home I wanted to buy a bottle but the guy said he couldn't sell it to me as I was underage. I asked why not and he said because it contained alchohol. Overhearing this the other till guy said he is hardly going to drink it!

I still have the bottle - didn't like the taste.

Bravo Tesco! Its about time someone did something about this alcoholic condiment crisis.

I for one am sick of being harassed by the saucaholics where I live. Causing nothing but trouble and begging for chips and burger buns. Its sad because I can see the younger kids getting into ketchup in their teens. They'll end up the same way unless Tesco can stop it.

Yeah you say that now but I know people, who know people that started out putting ketchup on their chips and within months they were pouring Yorkshire Relish onto their cheese sandwiches!!!

Needless to say it all went downhill pretty quickly from then!! Everyone thinks they can handle it at first but pretty soon there's no way out and you have to try different sauces to get the same buzz you got the last time. :mad:

Same old sh1te. The Netherlands and sauce outlook? If you ever actually hung around any Dutch people you would realise they are all psychogically dependant on mayonaisse. Cover chips, potatoes, even their toast with the stuff.

Dont get me wrong, Im not for outright prohibition. I occasionally hit the mayo in KFC burgers and chipper quarter pounders.

But toast.....that shows problems.

These retailers are totally irresponsible selling these type of products.
Just the other day I bought a can of Alphabet Noodles in Dunnes.
Imagine my shock & dismay when I noticed my 3 yr old niece had spelled out the words 'Sh*te', 'Wan*er', 'Bo**ix', and 'Fu*k Off' on her dinner plate!
I say Ban them All !

Not a barbeque sauce fan, but I have to say that as far as whiskeys go Jack Daniels is a fairly disgusting blend.

How about brown sauce with a drop of Power's? I'd say that would be ok - not in your tea, though, like those degenerates in Intermission.
