Have to say, I can't get my head around this mooncup thing at all!

Tampons and sanitary towel at night.

    Periods ftl.

Tampon/liner combination, just in case...considering trying mooncup, apparently many advantages including non-messy sexy time.

Tampons all the way - would not be into a mooncup...

does anyone else find the idea of the mooncup a little bit gross, like the whole take it out and wash it thing seems kinda odd to me.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭GirlInterrupted

I might give it a try for a while, I don't think it's anymore gross than a used tampon or towel. I thought it would be smaller for some reason, and I don't think sex would be an option with it in thats for sure! A pity really because I thought unmessy sex would be a big plus.

Yes I do - from my image of it i can imagine it filling up then sploosh when you take it out. AM sure I am wrong but to me its like a urine bag after an operation

I've said it before and I'll say it again...how can the mooncup be anymore gross than shoving a bunch of cotton up your gee.

Women don't loose THAT much blood per day with a period it just looks like more then it's all spread out and soaked up by a pad in truth it's about a shot glass full and a moon cup can cope with that ammount easily.

Ah yeah, agreed. It's not the blood that bothers me, it's the pain. If the mooncup could relieve that I'd be very swiftly converted.

Well thats the difference between regular blood and period blood ?
You can't pick regular blood up with a fork.

The moon cup is easily washed and is made of silicon and warms to your body's temp so you for get it is there.

Oh ick. I can imagine alright that you forget about it, and you can leave it in so long that it's a real plus overnight.

Forgot to mention being paranoid about a friends dog sniffing your crotch, anyone else worry about this? God how sad am i.

If your periods are very light pads are ok I suppose, but tampons for warm weather is much more comfortable. What does your mum have against tampons if thats not too nosey?

Yes that is exactly what it does.

Tampons are traditionally not rec emended for young girls as their bodies are still developing, their hymen may still be intact.

    mooncup! no contest really.

no its not any more messy than pads or tampons, no it dosnt 'slosh' around inside you, no you cant feel it, no you cant have sex with it in (thats insteads)
and you think its gross? cool, so haveing a sweaty, bloody lump of plastic and cottonwool between your legs all day is just something you learn to live with?! no thanks, ill take my 'gross' lil cup anyday of th week

Agreed. I'm a recent convert to the mooncup and it really is the best option. I didn't find it even slightly difficult to use. I cut the "handle" off it completely by the third day of use as I didn't need it. You can just use your pelvic muscles to push it out. Even on my heaviest days I only need to change it every 12 hours, so there is no worries about public toilets as I only have to do it in the morning and at night.

It eliminates odour, as my dogs were always somewhat curious about my crotch when I had my period in the past. But they have no idea now, which is a reflief. It's also a relief to never have to worry about having enough tampons or having the wrong size. I absolutely can't feel it, so I find my cramps are eased a little because I feel physically less tense.

I'm on the Depo Provera so my choice is nothing. Tis the awesome - although one day my mother told me that my body was storing all the lost periods up and it was all going to come out of me one day as a surprise, which is a horrible mental image. She's evil like that!

I cant believe so many people wear pads...

I have a big aversion to them as my mother used to always by us stay free when I was younger.... No wings or slimline pads for us, They were big thick and like incontinence pads... No neat discreet packaging. Big dirty looking long pads... Ugggghhh!!
