Richer Sounds

Just noticed richer sounds in Belfast are heavily selling into the south at their sterling prices. Delivery charges of £10 - £50 apply, but their prices for TV's / HiFi seem to be extremely good.

Phillips 42" LCD £549, Sony Bravi 32" £449 etc etc.

    www.richersounds.ie

Always were a decent crowd to deal with when they had a store in Dublin.

I still buy stuff from them, shipping rates are very good. their sterling -> euro conversion rate is a bit ropey, but I usually get them to charge me the sterling price and let the credit card do the rest. They are always up for knocking a few pounds off aswell :D

I always found their product range to be narrow & inconsistent

Comparing a 42 inch Panasonic Plasma - there is a huge difference pricewise between Richer Sounds and Komplett (who I always thought were the cheaper of the online stores)

    Panasonic TH42PZ70PED (Full HD):
    Komplett: €1269 + €139 delivery = €1420 (including 12 prf)

    Richer Sounds (sterling):
    £799 + 40 shipping = Approx €1060

That's nearly 400 in the difference! Bargain from Richer Sounds - and a good tv too!

Yes, pity richersounds don't do the new 50" Panasonic Plasmas, hint hint :)

Do you have to buy from the ireland website http://www.richersounds.ie/ or can you buy from the http://www.richersounds.com/home.php website. There is a better selection on the second site.

The .ie site, but I've always found with them that they have a lot more in stock than whats on their website. I asked one time about getting a center speaker which they had on their .com site and they said they'd ship it over, so I suppose no harm in asking.

I would ring them to order anything.

Bought a 42" Panny from them last Dec, charged me 50 yoyos for del and i still saved 300 on all retailers down here. Plus if you have a problem, there is the added bonus of them only being in belfast and they will arrange courier back to there should you have one (not that i did :) ). would recoomend them to everyone.

Re: 50" panny plasma, ring them they may be able to get it in for you

    Cheers,
    S

The 32" Bravia is just over €600 delivered when you use the Sterling price. Seems like a good deal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

The shop is tiny in Belfast but it's crammed high with goods.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 564 ✭✭✭fishfoodie

    I have to pipe in...

I just bought a 42" Panasonic Plasma from Richer Sounds & I couldn't be happier with them. The Plasma wasn't available on the ie site but the guys in Belfast got the TV delivered from the UK. All, in all probably >€400 saving.

I'm a hard man to keep happy, but the folks in Richer Sounds get my vote every time !!!

    My 2 cents...

I was recently looking to buy an Onkyo A/V receiver and talked to Richer Sounds. They told me that a replacement model was due out and they would have it in 2 weeks even though they had the old one in stock..... very impressed by this as I always want the latest.
They also said they don't stock everything on the .co.uk site but can get it shipped accross. The receiver I was after retails down south for €350 and Richer Sounds are €315 when you do the conversion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 466 ✭✭aquascrotum

RS are excellent - as others have said they generally seem to carry everything on the .co.uk / .com website but don't display it on the .ie website.

Can't understand why there is such a dearth of decent AV specialists in Dublin/RoI generally with midrange stuff - it seems to be from overpriced crud in Peats/Currys or similar to overrated overpriced crud in B&O to super-top of the range gear.

BTW if you have access to a NI address, Richer Sounds will pricematch the best price you can find for the same item delivered to that address from an online UK retailer - for instance I'll shortly be buying a Panny 37" plasma, RS are about £680, best online deal in stock and delivered to my folks address in Armagh is £610. If you go to RS with that quote they'll sell over the counter for £610. Same unit in Komplett in RoI is E860, Currys in RoI was E900+ last time I looked...well worth a half tank of diesel to Belfast.

Didn't know you needed an NI address. I bought a sound system from them last year. CD Player, AV receiver + 7 speakers. Not only did they price match anything I got from elsewhere in the UK or Ireland they smashed it. Got a great deal on the speakers and the AV receiver which should have been about 600eu cost about 400eu.

Price around and then ring them and don't be afraid to ask for a better price (more than once)

Guys, John McDonald here MD of Richer Sounds Ireland - I did not know we had our own thread on Boards! Yippie, and thanks to all who have said nice things about us. Just to clarify a few things: 1. Yes we know our richersounds.ie site is a little crap, we are really working to make it better we have a new site in the wings waiting to go - we are just soo damn busy at the moment its untrue. 2. Anything you see on our .co.uk or richersounds.com site we can get in for you(assuming the UK guys have it in stock..), at the same price or cheaper - in fact we will have most of it in stock - just we probably have not had a chance to get it on the .ie site. 3. We will price beat ANYBODY! I saw a few mentions of KomPleet and other online retailers, so long as they have the goods in stock and are authorised dealers we will beat any cheaper price. 4. We are in Ireland! We have a bricks N Mortar shop in Belfast and we also own The Philips Shop in Dublin where our service centre is based so you can feel comfortable shopping with us 5. Once again we know our Euro rate is ropey on some items - it all depends on when we bought them or when we last updated the product - however you are free to choose either the sterling or euro price and we will sell at whicher is the cheapest for you. 6. The best thing is always to give us a call on the dog n bone or on skype - we will always sort you out a price!!!! Thanks again for the Kind comments, Thanks to Boards!

Thanks John, it's good to see retailers meeting their customers online. I've always found your staff very knowledgeable and friendly to deal with.

So how about a special offer for boardsies then, even for one week?
I've a few items I've been putting on the long finger, you may just tempt me to break open the piggy bank a bit early ;)

Could never understand why Richer and Hifi corner pulled out of Dublin, I still have Tannoy M1's and M2's that I bought 10 years ago still working away fine, the only problem with these stores was where they were situated it was very hard to get parking, if they had moved out to somewhere Like blanch or Fonthill it would have been great, and would have made business sense during the Celtic Tiger, alas with the Tiger just about to be put down I doubt we will see Richer south of the border anytime soon.

John Mc From Richer Sounds here again - what a good Idea - special deals for Boardies - How about free shipping to start?? Of course if anyone is looking for a deal they can just give me a shout personally , and to answer the last posters query - yes its unlikely that we will ever be back down South - over 50% of our business in now on-line, and about another 15% is specialist multi Room and Custom install and its just too damn expensive to retail in dub,in (but I am sure we could be persuaded if we really thought there was a demand), Thanks again for all your kind comments - hope the Tannoys are still going well! john Mc

    Hi John

What this thread proves is real customer service built up over years will beat any number of full page adverts by Currys / PC world / dixons who simply don't give a damn about customer service. In fact Goldman Sachs have downgraded DSG group to a sell rating and one of the reasons given was their lack of connection and retention of customers. (financial speak for crap service)

I'd guess a free delivery offer for the slower summer months would give you huge feedback.

The father bought a stereo(nearly £900 Irish pounds) in the early 90's from ye. Still ticking away like a grandfathers clock.

Regarding your customer service, I've never shopped with you before, but on foot of seeing a thread like this, I dont think I can avoid Richer now. I'll keep it in the back of my mind if I want any electronics, I'll have a buzz of the website anyway.

Regarding your point about the site, itr still uses and tables and it's design isn't the best around, but it's moreso about the content - and the prices. Good to see the MD of a reputable company actually talking to the customers like this. Keep it up!

Interesting thread for me especially cos today I posted my first ever adverts.ie ad and finally gave away my Sherwood ProLogic Amp and Teac CD deck that I got in Richer in town years ago. I used to love that shop! It was like an aladdins cave of stuff, everything packed high to the ceiling :) It was on my regular route for a stroll around town back then.

Delighted to see i wasn't the only one who loved richer sounds when it was in Dublin, i discovered them back in '99(on dame st, now philips store) while looking for a Region1 DVD player they had the perfect job a pioneer for i think £500 with chip installed have only had 1problem with it in all that time which they sorted out hassle free!
Plus with getting parking never had any trouble with the few times i bought stuff off Richer sounds they had the little stickers to say sorry your just picking goodies up!

I need to be pulled away from the website all the time as i want everything.

Thanks Johnmc for coming on here and responding to people in a favourable way its always appriciated.
    We miss you down here!
Glad to hear you still look after the philips store its piece of mind to know if there is a problem.

Have to add that my customer service within the past 12 months with RicherSounds was absolutely perfect and a pleasure. Delivery was prompt and very reasonable (I bought a Pioneer AV Receiver). The guys were very helpful on the phone aswell as in e-mail.

Would love to buy from them again and if John Mc checks the site again, would love to upgrade my PJ and buy a Optoma HD800X

Money waiting for a good deal, pm welcome

Yeah still have a pair of Missions (black floor standing) - and a Nad 320 amp - both bought in Richer Sounds - best investment I ever made with no need to upgrade! My mini-disc player gets a little less use however!

    Hi John,
I did find it a bit slow to process my order over the phone. I canceled it cause I was able to get it cheaper locally. But the unit was still delivered to me. I had canceled it but no confirmation was sent to me. I would like that an email confirmation to be sent confirming the order and for canceling it. At least then I would have a record of what is going on.

    What do you think ?

    Thanks

    John,

Whats the procedure for somebody living in Dublin if say their TV becomes faulty? Does it go to the Phillips Shop or back to Belfast?

Dont worry I dont have a faulty TV :)

    Teasup

  • Company Representative Posts: 9,510 ✭✭✭Richersounds.ie: John

Teasup, It depends! (now theres a lisbon politicians answer for you!) You have the choice of either bringing it to The Philips Shop (where the service centre for Richer Sounds and The Philips Shop is located - we keep the service bods locked in a dark basement..) or you can of course return it to Belfast - we also offer a collection service countrywide - we subsidise the charge for this to 50% of the delivery cost of £40 (ie its £20/€26.99) - and this is for all TV's up to 60". As I am sure you are aware with most retailers it is up to the Consumer to return the goods to the point of sale - this is why we have recently started to offer the reduced collection rate - hope thats of some use - I also hope your TV does not go faulty!, All the best, John Mc

You dont - but the pricematch will be for the UK retailer + delivery. Delivery to NI is almost always significantly less than to RoI, hence you'll have a lower price for them to match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,337 ✭✭✭kingaaa

John must be on holidays or something. I've actually found what I want on the Irish site, but the shipping is £30 sterling. This brings it very close to what I can get it for elsewhere. If John was serious about the free shipping to members, I'll definitley buy from them.

Anyone any comments on this. I was looking at getting one in Richer sounds, it doesn't have the tuner and it is isn't full HD. Anyone have any experinece of this TV or should I look at the full HD version ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,888 ✭✭✭Rsaeire

At that size I'd recommend a full HD model, preferably one of the newer line from Panasonic such as the 42PZ80. You'll not only see the difference but future proof yourself more than a HD ready screen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,933 ✭✭✭keith_d99

Yeah I would go for the TH42PZ70PED - full HD model
And 799 sterling is a great price for it

Just looking at the website again - and the above model no longer seems to be there - maybe give them a call and see if they have it?
They defo were selling it @ 799 a couple of weeks ago

I'd imagine the 42PZ70 has disappeared from the Richer Sounds website because they're either out of stock and won't be getting anymore back in, or they're replacing the PZ70 line with the new updated PZ80 line instead and the 50PZ70 will be the next to disappear.
