I feel exactly the same way. Othello not so bad tho... Poetry... if it's Donne, I'm okay. Anyone else, screwed.

My Comparative is equally dodgy. Especially cas Ive no quotes. Ill light a candle for Literary Genre!!!

Paper 2 is a bit risky for me. Othello should be grand but if theme, boland and mahon don't come up I'm royally screwed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,762 ✭✭✭turgon

Ah, id say your sorted with that

How many poets ye doin??Only know two very rough,Mahon and Boland.....will be f**ked if they dont come up!!Won't get time to go over another one :(

I think I'm just going to write out a practice Theme Or Issue question, and cultural context question and then leave it at that for the comparative.

I really need to study Othello. I haven't looked at it since before the mocks, and even then I didn't do much.

Poety....meh. I haven't learned many quotes, but Boland was hammered into us by our teacher since 5th year so i know her well. Larkin will be a backup, and then I'll know the basics of Mahon.

Wud ya reckon Larkin is a safe bet??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 255 ✭✭JC06

I'd love Cultural Context to come up...if not I'll just try Theme/Issue!
Hopefully Donne or Mahon will be there tomorrow...if it's Rich I'm not doing it, can't stand her!
Hopefully the Othello question is something to do with jealousy/revenge or Iagos motives :)

as in study him and no one else?

"Iago is basically a prick" Discuss this statement with reference to the play Othello.

    What a class question!

I'm digging my own grave here and learning:

    *theme- to compare

    Othello:
    Othello- how he's all insane
    Iago- can manipulate people

    :(

I've stuff done to cover Othello, Iago and jealousy, and some imagery. But at the mo my last minute revisions are Iago, yeah. :)

I bought the 'English Key Notes' book b Tony Lake and I'm learning off the sample answers in that...not fully word for word but more or less the same.
Could examiners class this as plagiarism (as I along with half of my class will be doing the same? and don't papers from your school all get corrected by the same person?)

As long as it's not word for word and you personalise a bit you should be ok Mr L_8 ;)

Come on Iago, Mahon and literary Genre. And the key Notes book is the best book ever. Has the answer for all things English.

Do you need quotes for the comparitive?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,977 ✭✭✭Soby

Would you say these will be ok/enough paragraph topics for Iago

Opening scene evident that Iago delgihts in causing mayhem and misery

Imagery+symbolis reinforce the idea of iago's evilness

.....most impressive talents ability to asses people characters/weakness

    ability to hide through self

and evil genius is most evident in temp scence

would 4 out of those 5 be enough with a paragraph on each???..not including my op paragraph and conclusion???

I know it's a bit late now, but could someone please tell me how many themes you are allowed use for the 3 texts. Is it only the one and can it be more? I know with Culture and Context my teacher did out an essay for us on five or six different things, but I am not too sure with Theme or Issue. Cheers.

Btw, is anyones doing th efollowing for the CS - Truman Show, Death and Nightingales, Plough and the stars? If so, do you recken the themes of 'Deception and Betrayal', and 'Illusion' would cover them enough? Thanks.

Well the fact that it's theme, and not themes implies that it is just one. All our class preperation has been centred around one theme. You're supposed to mention the theme you're using in your intro too. So I've very confident that it's just one, but not 100&

everyone banking on donne, larkin, rich and mahon but are they really gonna put up the same as the mocks???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 191 ✭✭MaltEagle

The mocks are not printed by the SEC so anything is possible. Plus the L.c. are as far as I know printed before the actual mocks. And, maybe them coming up on the mocks, could be a hint?!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 111 ✭✭jessie11

    boland was in my mock...

But the Examination Commission didn't set the mocks, did they? And there were plenty of different mocks... weren't there? And whoever wrote the mocks probably wrote them on what they thought was most likely... so maybe they'll be right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,977 ✭✭✭Soby

ah well..come on larkin and boland

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 191 ✭✭MaltEagle

    Lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,977 ✭✭✭Soby

accutaly just come on larkin..odds are its gonna be larkin mahon donne and rich/boland..unless someone like frost/monty...god only 1 poet properly studied...i am foooked

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭Fitzo

Hoping Boland comes up as it's probably my Strongest poet. However Don't mind if it' Mahon or Rich and failing those two Donne and failing all of them, Frost! Should be ok on it though.

Comnparative...bit meh, but looking over stuff today it's not that difficult to answer although the length of it could be iffy...

Othello, I feel i can answer anything on it. Fairly easy to link things together once you have a good understanding and knowledge of the play...

    BRING IT ON!
