Which will you choose as your final resting place?

Do you want to be buried or cremated?

I dont want a wake or an open coffin.. its a bad way to remember somone.. i want to die, put into the box and burnt.. small non dominational funeral.. and everyone back to the hotel for a dinner at my expence.. to share a joke or 2 ;)

Personally i will be cremated because i dont want the worms to get me.. i want to be cremated and my ashes disposed of... not kept.

I've always wondered tbh how long people keep the ashes. I mean if my parents were cremated and wanted the ashes kept, I'd keep them for my whole life and probably like my own children to keep them after I'm gone.... but how would you feel about being responsible for your great grandparent's ashes if you had never even met them?

Oh and probably burnt and chucked in the brown bin (organic waste) for me.

burial for me, the idea of cremation freaks me out. just in case i was still alive or anything id prefer to be buried alive than burned alive

I keep threatening the girlfriend that I want to be cremated and my urn kept on the mantle piece. :p

Don't think I'd be too fussy to be honest, its not going to matter to me like, I'm going to be dead.

The inventor of the Pringles can died recently and some of his ashes are being buried in A PRINGLES CAN! The rest in a traditional urn.

Somee ppl..although extremely rare have been knwn to be buried alive. Seen a documentry about it. Some have actually instructed in their will that their wrists be slit before being buried.

Mind you it doesnt make sence, because most ppl are embalmed now.. ive actually been present at a few embalmings.. its kinda like preparing a turkey the night before dinner... well not really, but i can tell you with all the formaldehyde they pump in to you.. you aint waking up!

Apparently, electrical signals are detectable in the brain for like 6 months after death.

I want to experience that trip. Burial for me.

I kinda like the idea of if you're buried, your body breaks down and fertilises the ground above it, the worms eat it, etc., so in a strange way you could consider it 'living on'. If you plant flowers on top of the grave, your death helps them grow....

But at the same time, it's kind of disgusting to know that someone's corpse is decaying below your feet...

    Dunno

I thought this thread was going to be about how you'd prefer to die.

On topic though, I think I have to get buried as my Mammy has already bought the specific plot that I'm going to be buried in.

I'm slightly worried though as I'm only in my early twenties and I have no serious illnesses (that I know of...)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,676 ✭✭✭The Artist

buried in a cardboard box,no expensive coffin thanks.

    cremated

if people care about me enough id like some of the ash to be turned into fake diamonds(google it i cant remember the name of the company but they were talking about it on the radio a year or so ago) and made into rings i think that would be pretty cool

id also have a list of places id like my ashes scattered which(especially if i had kids) could be done over a period of time kinda passing on were i have enjoyed to the next generation as they visit each place

Definitely burial. I wouldn't mind having a wake, but I don't want a removal. They're just too depressing.
I've no worries about being buried alive: just one of the benefits of having an organ donor card :)

I've never liked the idea of cremation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,413 ✭✭✭TeletextPear

heh yeah i have an organ donar card too, didnt really occur to me that it pretty much guarantees i couldnt be buried alive :D

    hey snyper
you're totally on the death buzz these days,

Re your plans for your ex.........what a lovely thought!
And only yesterday you were sounding close to sensitive!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,094 ✭✭✭✭javaboy

How does cremation impact on your carbon index? :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,136 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

If incinerators don't reach their quotas you can help generate electricity :D and the phosphates for the soil. I'm for burning and getting scattered.

Without doubt post of the year!

I fancy the bury option myself.

Fry me, fling me and forget about me. I would have to have anyone feel obliged to look after a 6x3 foot plot just cos I was decaying under it.

    Cremated and scattered over water
    Probably not legal

i think i'd go for buried, would rather exist in some form as long as i can, who knows what medical research will bring, if my bones are still there in the ground maybe someday they'll walk again

I want to have my funeral in an old Gothic Cathedral filled with candles and the smell of incense, also a load of monks chanting Gregorian hymns as my body is placed on the funeral pyre. Nothing too extravagent though.

Not in the EU you won't. Dead or not they will have your charred remains in court for breaking a zillion environmental laws.

I'm told you can donate your body to Science and the family get it back for burial or cremation.

Edit - I want to be burned, and my ashes sent to random addresses in Nigeria. Get em back for all that spam :p

    LMFAO!!!!:D:D:D

It'd be a non-denom funeral followed by burial for me. Was at a cremation once and it was kinda creepy for some reason. Plus I'd like somewhere my family could come and visit me.

No way-cremations the way to go! Quick , easy, no turning back ;)
Being dug up is a serious paranoia of mine...

Not sure, if I'm burnt it means god can't get me, but if I'm buried I might get to be a zombie  as a child I was terrified by both urns AND cemetaries, I don't really want to inflict that fear on future generations...feckit I just won't die

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,215 ✭✭✭FX Meister

    I'd rather rot above ground

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,118 ✭✭✭Lirange

The whole idea of people keeping ashes in macabre to me.

Keeping a bunch of dust in an urn or that ritualistic dump over some evocative location. Bleh.

The remains are not the actual remains anyway. The carbon of the body is completely vaporised and what is left in the form of "ashes" is composed largely of elements that were present in the air.

I've never found skulls or mummies that disgusting by comparison. The embalming prevents any overly grotesque graphic rapid flesh rot of the nature that seems to horrify people. I'll even volunteer to be a cadaver at UCD.
