If you could go back in time to any era what band would you like to see most live at their hayday...

Personally I'd love to have seen U2 in the Dandelion Market busking .would be amazing. It was approx where the Dandelion Cafe is now.

Stone Roses live at Spike Island probably their best moment..

Love to have been at this one too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omJZcrnjQ_Q&feature=related :D good vid

There s many gigs I wish I'd gone to.
But one of them would be that gig back in the day when Dylan went electric. People started shouting abuse and calling him a traitor. Even though there must have been thousands of people in front of him, he turned to the band and said : PLAY LOUDER!

    That's cojones.

I watched the Woodstock live tape, and to be fair- the only acts that were any good were Jimi Hendrix and The Who.

    I mean 'Sha-Na-Na?'

I would liked to been able to have seen it so that I could say to all those woodstock enthusiasts: "yeah I was there, it was sh1t".

Probably Hendrix in Monterey. Saw clips of it on youtube. Very cool.

Tough to pick, but probably any Ramones or Television gig in CBGBs.

Failing that any Manics gig in The Holy Bible era.

Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel) at the King's Arms in Auckland

Great recording of it around as well!

I would like to see New Order at the Rose Hill Hotel, Kilkenny again, this time sober, as I can only remember waking up on a table when the show was over.

Would love to have seen The Smashing Pumpkins anytime between 92 - 96 on the Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie tours. Saw them this year and it was amazing.

Stone Roses in some small venue would have been super, though I think top of my wish list would have to be Queen at Wembley.

During the mid 90's Smashing Pumpkins, when their support act was Garbage!
2 of my top 3 bands playin' would have been sweet!

I don't listen to them at home much but I went to the Guns and Roses gig two years ago in the RDS. It was amazing. I would love to have seen them in an LA gig when they started up.

Either Pearl Jam at Pinkpop in 1992, Nine Inch Nails at Woodstock New York in 1994 or any Soundgarden gig on their Superunknown tour circa 1994.

    Nirvana, Unplugged, 1993, New York

To a lesser extent The Wall tour by Pink Floyd.

Just wondering, why that one redmosquito?

I was gonna say 'The Experiment' in Mansfield in 2003 when they opened for themselves, woulda been amazing. The fact that they played like 45 songs without repeating themselves. Epic.

Me too..Around that time they could whip a crowd into a frenzy like no other band..There's a great Milan gig on youtube for proof of this.

The Velvet Underground back when John Cale was in the band and they were playing Andy Warhol's parties.

Einstuerzende Neubauten when they tried to destroy the ICA in London.

Throbbing Gristle at any point during 1978-1980.

Coil in Dublin 2004. Even though I was there, I would love to go back and see it again considering Jhonn Balance's departure from this world shortly after.

    Tool on the Aenema tour.

My Bloody Valentine when Loveless came out (although I do get to see them soon).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 416 ✭✭Predhead

A lot of cool bands. The Velvet Underground would defo be up there for me. But I'm gonna be really really boring and say the Beatles, probably in around '64.

Also Buddy Holly would've been awesome.

I liked the 'experiment' but I prefer other shows from that tour alone over it, it was still a mammoth show and with the two previous shows at that venue the ended up playing over 90 different songs with only YL repeating on night 2 and 3.

To answer your question, I think Soldier Field was beyond special, the band finishing up the first part of an akward tour, sold out stadium, they were at their peak of popularity then and the pressure was on. Eddie sounds rough but the band is absolutely on fire, setlist is great, some great covers (especially the rather obscure Sly and the Family Stone cover!).

You can feel how special a show it was from just listening to the boot.
Concert wise it would be in my top 10 Pearl Jam shows of all time, but just to have been there would have been amazing.

    Have you ever heard it??

Hoping I get a special show at MSG this summer! ;)

    The doors (69 - 71)

Nope can't say i have, might see if i can get a hold of it now. I've got a good few random boots from over the years, kinda just end up pickin them randomly or based on the set lists. The variety in set lists is one of the things which makes them so amazing live imo, so I'd say you're bound to be in for a treat from one of those shows at least... lucky bastard:pac:

The Band at the their Last Waltz show.

The Who at The Isle of Wight 1970.

    Hendrix at Monterey or Woodstock.

U2 at Zoo TV or Popmart.

One of those early Doors gigs at the Whiskey...

Any gig by the Cocteau Twins

I'd also like to add that Jeff Buckley at Whelans gig to my list!

Some of those early Lollapolooza shows would have been amazing too.

    I could go on...

Some whack-job even tried to cut the power cords with an axe...
I'd love to have been at that gig. Also one of the Sex Pistols gigs, after Sid joined the band. One of The Doors concerts around mid-1970s. One of Johnny Cash's Folsom gigs. Any Joy Division and Nick Drake concert. Seeing Beck after the release of Mellow Gold. Seeing NWA would've been cool too. Theres just so many....

I'm delighted I get the chance to see a Rage Against The Machine concert. The only reason I'm going to ****** on Sunday!

Would loved to have seen Talking Heads on their Stop Making Sense tour - I don't think they played Ireland though (and plus I was only about 4 at the time!)

Smashing Pumpkins supported by Whipping Boy in the SFX in 1995. I didn't have the money for a ticket. Boo!!!!!!

Sonic Youth supported by Nirvana in the Top Hat (think that was the venue) in Dublin - 1991.

Godspeed You Black Emperor in the Roisin Dubh in Galway (2000/2001 I believe it was)

Smog - Roisin Dubh Galway - November 2001. Just to see it again and meet the girl I met that night for the first time all over again!

And since we're time travelling - I hear that Mozart lad had some mental gigs in his day.

If I had to choose some QOTSA ones alone, Big Day Out 2001, Eurockeenes 2005, or 100 Club 2007. Everything on those vids just look so good, everything sounded tight, seemed brilliant.

For others, Smashing Pumpkins in SFX(Ash supported them). The Who @ Isle of Wight, RHCP in Slane(just wish I'd actually gone, not necessarily brilliant but hey), and i'm sure there are many other out there.

Maybe Whipping Boy supported them too. I only know of one night, maybe SP played more. I was only a wee chap back then. Tim, the singer from Ash told me about it, he never mentioned Whipping Boy. Plus I dont know any WB either!

Fair enough. They played two nights in a row (one night supported by Ash, the other by Whipping Boy) - this was the summer before Mellon Collie was released so they weren't huge in Ireland yet.

Oh right, I knew what the gigs were for(previewing MC&tIS), but didnt know they did two nights. So think for now I'll stick to my one of Ash supporting.
