Poker company asks for ID to authorise withdrawal.........

I used to play on Titan, and their service is absolutly shocking, but I can't think of any poker site that doesn't make ID requests.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2 bewareoftitan

I know about ID being required for some sites and don't have a problem with that.

I have severe problems with being recommended to email scanned photocopies of front and back of credit card along with all the rest of ID and sigs.

I just don't understand how a company can recommend these type of details be emailed. All it needs is one spoofing mail/dns server somewhere in the middle and hello id theft. So so irresponsible to their customers.

Paddy power does not require it by the way, and it should be requested at deposit rather than withdrawal if this is so important for them.

Plenty sites ask for ID verification. Hell, Boyle rang me when I was trying to lodge one day to make sure that it was me doing it. Lovely guys at Boyle.

Betfair require a KYC check for certain markets, and VC, Titan, plus others all require a standard 'Yes this is me and my Credit Card' form to be sent.

What bothers me most is the forms you need to send to REGISTER a credit card with Irish Eyes!!! Register mind you.

Change sites. I honestly recommend either Ladbrokes or Boyle - you can lodge with both via credit card or laser (non-maestro for Laddies) and withdraw over the counter with ID. Being able to take down that last pot and run to the shop b4 they close and withdraw is the bomb. Beers FTW!

Paddy power does not require it by the way,
yes they do and im pretty sure most ipoker skins ask for it. its probably like a random security check and thats why you were asked at one and not teh other. ive been asked for it on a few sites. op you sound angry.

i agree with the opening post to be honest. i really wouldnt trust people with a scan of my credit card, no matter what site it was!!!
i totally understand the photo id and if it was a laser card then i would send it no problem but all you need to use online is all the numbers on the front and back of that card and email addresses are hacked into a lot and i really wouldnt like to have to send them those pictures

I have never been asked to produce id by any poker site ever.
    I am clearly just trustworthable

    Same as. Or Neteller.

However, I haven't withdrawn from most sites I have deposited on. Boredom and bad spinnage kicked in.

I agree it's common practice amongst lots of different sites. It is ... unusual that they only ask for this info when you want your money back (they dont seem to care about who's using your card when you give them money). I got uppity with sites a few times and "won", but in the end it's just their standard policy, when you're expecting it it's not too bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,477 ✭✭✭newbie2

i have to agree with the op. sending all that information over email is a bit risky imo. i was recently asked to do something similar when i went to transfer a small amount of money from sky bet to sky poker (i was locked and it seemed like a good idea at the time). they requested the same sort of sh1t as titan. i told them to f-off and told them they could keep their ten euro.

IMO everyone who plys online should have a neteller/ moneybookers etc account. one time set up and no hassle around many of the sites.

This only happens if the information you give when you register with the poker site does not EXACTLY match what the bank holds as your details.

No it doesn't. If I recall correctly even though Titan is regulated in Kahnawake the fact that they are part of Ipoker means they are required to check the validity of credit card ownership as part of EU policy due to the fact that Playtech is based in Cyprus and they run the Ipoker network.

Having said that Titan are annoying about it, especially making you print out a page of your deposits, hand signing it, scanning it, and emailing it to them. I had my hand signature already scanned in a pasteable word document and they wouldn't accept my pasting it. Titan definitely have a policy of trying to deter 1st time withdrawers.

I think this is definitely one of the reasons they do this. Free money for them woots!

From my experience its only the address that needs matching to prove you are you. Its a basic anti-fraud measure but common sense on the skins side should normally be applied to make everybody happy.

Printing out deposits and signing them etc is very strange and may lead to more of a chance of fraud than the original reason they give for trying to prevent it.

As part of our security procedures, we ask that you provide the following details:

    1) A valid ID, passport, or driver's license that shows the address currently registered in your Titan Poker account.
    2) Copies of the front and back of the credit cards you used to deposit in your Titan Poker account. If you no longer have one of these credit cards, a bank statement for the card in question will suffice.

Once your faxes are legibly received, they will be placed in a secure file and you will not be asked to re-send them in the future. Additionally, having your faxes on file will facilitate other adjustments we periodically make to a players account such as an increase in the deposit limit or making any changes in account details that you may request.

Please fax your ID to: Canada (toll free): Canada: 1-877-7895725 or International: +632-756-7907. If you prefer, you may scan the documents and e-mail them to docs@titanpoker.com. On receipt of the above documentation, we will complete processing your withdrawal request.

I just made a withdrawal request and if they think I will scan and email this information they have to be joking in today's age of ID fraud. FFS the credit card company would go crazy if they knew people were giving out this kind of info.

I have emailed Titan and said there is no chance and if it comes to it and they do not cash out I will contact Visa and see what their stand is on this.

they dont want anyone withdrawing. and the more they make u work to get it the more frustrated you get and off back to tilt it all off on the green.

    just play that rake baby.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 119 ✭✭richardn

Titan refuse to cash out unless I send them the info so I contacted my Card Issuer and they say it is totally unaccceptable for Titan to request the information that they have and they will start an investigation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 119 ✭✭richardn

So now they will cash out, after I informed them that my Credit Card will start an investigation, but only on this one ocassion which still isn't good enough as I'm never going to send them my passport, driving license or front and back of credit card either by fax or email and my credit card company agree it is very suspicious and not to do it!

    "uninstall" me thinks.

    Dear Richard,

Are you and Halifax implying that they don't have the right to see your card or that they don't have the right to ask for ID? Keep in mind that their fraud concerns go beyond whether or not you're authorized to use the credit card. If Halifax do actually investigate they're going to conclude that Titan "have the right" to request pretty much anything they want.

I don't like the practice at all, but it's 100% the industry standard.

I've never seen a poker site provide a secure method of sending in the scans though, and that would be the biggest issue I have.

p.s. this topic pops up all the time on forums, and is obviously not limited to Titan

I hope UK players people read this post before putting any money into Titan Poker. I can't comment on how bad titan are at giving you your money if you are from the US or somewhere else, but I strongly recommend if you are from the UK you DO NOT put any money into this site. If you want to play on the Ipoker network play on BET365 or Ladbrokes (i think that is Ipoker too) as at least with them they will let you withdraw your winnings.

I have been trying to withdraw my profits from Titan for the last month or so, and have repeatly sent them the information they requested only for them to claim they have never received my emails (I also cc'd my personal and work email addresses in the emails I sent them, and I received the mails I sent no problem)

I have spoken with their online support several times, only to be told each time to resend my documents, and now just to make things trickier, i have had to get the original credit card replaced as it had a crack in it and I don't have copies of the old one...

Now I have tried to use fax instead after the money was put back in my poker account, here's the latest email conversation I have had with them...(what really stinks is that it's clear they do receive my emails, because they have replied to other ones before)

    My response

How exactly do you expect me to send you a clearer copy of my ID through a fax machine?? All I can do is photocopy it and then fax it, that is as clear as I can get it. I'd also like to inform you that I have emailed the information several times, but you claim not to have received it.

With regards to the credit card, I no longer have the card ending 8120, the
picture of the card I sent you is the replacement card from the same bank
account as the one ending 8120 got damaged and could no longer be used at the ATM.

I would like to escalate this issue to management, yet again I have tried to withdraw my winnings and it is clear that you trying to prevent me from doing so by being as awkward possible. I would like to know why you haven't received the 5 emails i have sent to docs@titanpoker.com giving you clear photos of all the information you have requested, when I have cc'd in my personal and work email addresses and received the same emails?

Please contact me asap about how we can get this issue resolved, if your
email filters are blocking the mails i send which have attachements then we
need to arrange some way for you to receive my emails.

I will continue to persist with this withdrawal until i get the money, and
can assure you that I will not be playing any more poker on Titan until it
    has gone through.

    Regards

So I guess now we'll see what happens, I know one thing for sure that I am not going to give up until I have withdrawn the money. It's got to the point where it isn't even about the money anymore, it's principal.

I am pretty certain as well that my last mail will be one of the mails that they conveniently claim never to have received, but we will see. I'll post back again to confirm.

Really hope this post helps any UK players avoid this site at all costs, I mean we all play poker for fun and to win money right? So why bother playing on a site that will not let you withdraw your winnings?

First of all, nearly every site has these procedures in place, its required to prevent money laundering. Send them a copy of an old bill from the card that was replaced. When Titan requested these documents from me I scanned them in and e-mailed them and had a response within 24 hours. While it can take them a couple of days to actually process the withdrawals, I've never had any problems withdrawing.

Personally i had terrible problems withdrawing from them, i hadn't even played, just deposited a 100 then decided to withdraw. I don't normally knock competitors publicly but i found the whole affair rather dodge to be honest. Even more galling was every-time i logged in i was hassled by live support to deposit more etc.
Wait until you see the new iPoker policy, we are not meant to return funds to players until after 72 hours! Obv we are ignoring it as i guess PPP are.

Yeah Titan currently say it can take up to 72 hours to withdraw, but I actually emptied my Titan account on Wednesday because I'm moving to Full Tilt and the money is already in my moneybookers a/c. If others find them dodgy then so be it, all I can say it I've never had any probs and I've deposited and withdrawn quite a lot over the last few months.

There is a fair amount of hassle though from the marketing team, I've been averaging a phone call every two weeks, an e-mail once a week and a conversation with live support weekly as well - pretty persistent and a little annoying considering the promotions tend to be bad also.

Full Tilt also ask for all of these details upon first withdrawl.

Would that mean that the funds stay in your account for those 72 hours (for the players convenience) or would they disappear immediately?

Would this apply to withdrawls from your sports account in a shop to?
Like if I win a few € and transfer it over to sports and then withdraw?

Titan are the worst company to deal with ever..

had a shocking experience, partly my fault - but I have never dealt with such a poor company before.

story - 1st deposit £100, small amount spent on poker little on casino - further £250 spent same day - then I have a few wins - $250 from poker & start winning on the casino,

so withdraw £1000, happy as larry & continue to play, win further on the casinos, to the tune of £2.5K more - to say happy is now an understatement, so try to withdraw £2.8K on top of my initial £1K all to my visa I made the initial deposits to. cant withdraw more than £2K to visa, great I think so do the max & play the remainder, the casino goes on a total suck out & Poker bad beats to die for...... so go to put in a further £100 for a couple of tourneys only to be told my £3K in total withdraws are still available, (gambler in me takes over & end up spunking back £2400 of it!!! anyway set up a minimal deposit limit & stay away for 3 days till the withdraw is in my account,
go online today - no money in bank - no email from them asking for docs, call up - told to supply docs, told em where to go as they made 6 deposits off my card so if it wasnt mine why would I want the bloody money back on it??

its now with security - they cant say how long it will take.. great service.

compare these con men to blue square in the UK, same network, allow you to hide casino games unlike titan & withdraw in my account NBD, I will never use the sharks at titan again - support staff barely speak english & the TW*T didnt understand why I dont have a fax/scanner machine,

    anyway rant over!
