Pat Howard for new Irish manager, anyone???

He's just left his position with the ARU and was pretty successful during his time with Leicester.. Any thoughts?

Thought he's retired and now in the pharmacy business? But if he's available id take him he'd be perfect had a great run with Leicester last year

Far be it from me to introduce politics into this thread, but perhaps he could be incentivised by the current situation with pharmacies over here as a potential "on the side" business opportunity when he's not coaching the Irish team?

    Just a thought!!

Saw John Mitchell mentioned in one of the papers. Isn't his contract with Western Force up this year?
Saw that and laughed at the thought of it. He hates the media and gives them bugger all to play with.

Shaun Edwards is the best coach around and would be my first choice.

nobody is mentioning conor o'shea,im not suggesting him as manager but it should be a priority to get him back to Ireland developing our youngsters instead of englands.

I'd be in favour of Kidney, whether you like him or not he has a proven record

Well he just won the GS with the under 20 side so i doubt the RFU will want him going anywhere. But how the f**k did he slip through the net????

Would hardly help with the whole staleness issue of the entire set-up though. I'd also debate whether or not his record is all that much better than O'Sullivans.

He was Director of Rugby at LI I think and got it through that. Maybe if the IRFU had proper links with Irish they could have got him. Ye dc69 I reckon he'd be a good manager or in the role that Rob Andrew has in England.

I would quite like the job. Im good at shouting and swearing not to mention leering at men in shorts.

Jake White seems to be gone to England from what people are telling me. I would imagine that with the talent we do have that loads of managers would love to get their hands on the team. They just have other commitments.

we do have good youth and experienced players for the next wc

    jennings
    Healy
    Kearney
    Fitzgerald
    Trimble
    Bowe
    Healsip
    Redden
    Bod
    Darcy
    Ogara
    Sexton
    Buckley
    Jones
    Best
    Ferris

    etc
and more will come through,i am not too hung up on our youth and unlike george hook do not think we will be the next Italy

A few of those players would barely be considered young now, let alone in 3.5 years time.

Yeah...but he's not built a side. Remember when he took over at Munster he inherited a side built from the ground up by Alan Gaffney and Kidney just capitalised on it.

He's not, in my opinion, the man for this job ie building a new side. Too like O'Sullivan.

Why not offer it to Gaffney with Galwey and/or Keith Wood as the assistant(s)?

While Kidney would not be one of my top choices for the Irish job, do not forget was also the coach before Gaffney arrived at Munster, coaching them to their two previous HEC final defeats. Gaffney just kept his seat warm for a few years :) (And did a pretty good job too might I add).

Great if he was interested, heard on newstalk this evening that he has a pretty young family and has only recently moved back down under. If he was available and interested in coming up to this neck of the woods again so soon it would be a very good appointment in my opinion.

Some might say Gaffney inherited the side from him.. Regardless I think the bad blood over the whole leinster fiasco keeps him out of the running.

I've mixed thoughts on Gaffney being head coach of Ireland, while there is no doubting his talent as a coach I think he would fit better as a specialist backs coach or assistant.

Good point, wonder if he had a hand in the Geraghty situation?

It'd be funny if Gatland was offered the role, just to see him stick two fingers up at Eddie on the way out - the ultimate reversal of the situation the few years ago.
