At least the Dundalk has a bit of personality.

The worst accent in this country is the souless mid-atlantic drone that uppity celtic cubs are assuming.

It is typified by corkonian Johnathon Rhys Meyers....http://www.youtube.com/v/fzaMBJVbmr4

    To the OP:

(in my best Sligo accent) "'ate me shyte!"

    Classy me! ;)

PS - seriously though.. there's much worse accents than Sligo. Ky-avan!

    PPS - and it's "Sligonians"!

Wexford is pretty awful but I have to say the worst (after Cork-boy-like) is Louth. I cannot specify particular regional accents in Louth, just that some of them sound a bit simple when they talk.

I do like the Kyavan accent though - its quite sexy.

Guy I know from Sligo says 'booooooooks' for 'books'. He's a teacher and his students are always saying 'Take out your booooooooks girls' to mock him.

Poor fella, haven't a clue what he's saying half the time!

The Louth accent is awful. I thought it was just Steve Staunton that spoke like that, but most of them do

Like in that Super Sweet Sixteen in Louth. Loads of 15 year old girls saying 'like oh my God like' in a Dundalk accent. Hilarious!

Yup, the sligo town accent is a crime against nature.
Thankfully i seem to have been blessed with what can only be described as a non-descript irish acccent, so nobody knows my shameful secret.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 668 ✭✭✭mise_me_fein

This cr@p comes up all the time worst accents and all that.

I´m glad I have a Louth accent, even if some people think it´s awful or whatever.....what do you want, a bland midlands accent?

Who cares what accent you have as long as it´s not put on.

teehee, as a sligonian this thread is making me laugh, galway has removed a lot of my sligo-isms though and most people cant place where my accent is from.

Do you now pronounce anything that ends in 'ing' as if it ends in 'in'? I do since I moved to Galway. (Or maybe Sligonians do this anyway?)

LIved there for a while and loved it- no probs with people or accent.

As proud Limerick man sorry to say that the Limerick scumbag accent grates hardest on the ear. Dub dragged out scumbag accent joint first place maybe.

It depends on the part of the town really. I don't mean to generalise but the Cranmore accent is 'cah!'

Hey dont be trying to drag the midlands into it! We don't sound like the characters off pure mule(well except offaly). People form athlone have dull voices, hardly annoying? Oh and we cant pronounce "th" properly: Ah-lone for example!

I was in dundalk just after christmas and its a weird accent alright.

A rough north-donegal accent is pretty horrible imo

The least sexiest for me is the thick Cork accent on women. Horrible.

I don't know or care. I try to put myself in positions where I don't have to listen to either of them. Either way, I know I hate both accents and they probably sound so similar that it doesn't matter. A country accent is a country accent.

they sound nothing like each other, have lived in the north west of ireland for almost 10 years, worked for a donegal company, with some cork customers, could never understand the cork accent,

    ;)

have since learned to love some of the ulster accents, parts of them are really sexy, talking about the accent here, although some of them using it aren't bad either

    ;)

Hearing Thai people trying to say "Limerick" is an education in what an accent is, since they can pronounce neither L's nor R's. Yemewihck is about it.
